The landspeeders looks great, very creative and good work.

I'll agree with wiplash about the chain on the dread,it just doesn't seem natural somehow.Maybe if you switched it to be hanging from the bottom of the torso instead?

Love the arms however, the autocannon looks ace, very nasy and powerful. The heavy flamer looks great too.

I was considering mounting a banner on my dread too,but instead i opted for just a back pack symbol.

I also added a DA pauldron from the vet box to one of the blank sides of the torso, you should have a look at them yourself, see if you like it too.

And please post better pics of the marines, they are looking ace and i would love to be able to inspect them better! :(

hey wiplash, cheers for the comments and taking the time to look at my thread. i just finished going over the dreadnought for errant mould lines ect and after reading your post i removed the chain. i wasnt sure about it when i put it on but i think youre right in what you said. im glad you like the Landspeeders, alot of you guys seem to approve of the modifications, as to the autocannon on that particular Tsunami Vaiant, i put it on there for a bit of variety, personally i like it but thats just me. cheers mate.

thanks King Tiger for the reply. ah youre another one who doesnt like the autocannon on that Landspeeder Variant. i might have to swap it out for another weapon. i didnt glue it, its just pinned. oh and the dreadnought heavy flamer is good isnt it? looks mean and imposing. how a Dark Angel Dreadnought should look. i will be adding some icons to it but its almost finished now. cheers.

hey there chaplainmikey, good to see you ~smiles~. thanks for the praise for the Tsunami Variant Landspeeders. theyre some of my favourite models. and i took on board what wiplash and now you said about the chain. i might see if it looks ok hanging from the hips, well see.

yah the twin linked autocannon was a gift from one of my best friends and it does look aces! good going on personalizing your Black Reach dreadnought. i still have to add a couple of bits to mine. yah i saw your dread, it looked really nice, well done man. and i shall endeavour to post up some more pics of those guys. im doing 11 in all at the moment. anyways catch you later.

I just thought to add a comment on your last post with the marines. Very nice use of the mark 1 veterans - especially the beaky with the metal embossed banner. I can't wait to see more fella. You might have given me the inspiration to re-visit my Dark Angels and see what I can do with them.

thanks chaplainmikey for posting again with regards to my DA colour scheme. ill tell you the steps i took with it. 1st i mixed a little Orkhide Shade with Dark Angels green (1 part Orkhide to 2 parts DA green) then i dry brushed this onto all the models then i added more dark angels green to this mix (1 part Orkhide to 3 parts DA green)and dry brushed this on then did the same thing with a little snot green added to the mix (3 parts DA green to 1 part Snot green). i added a little more snot green to the mix (2 parts DA green to 1 part snot green) and did the same thing as before. the results of that are in the following pics.

+++ EDIT +++ hey JetfireUK i just realised i never replied to your post, sorry man. anyways with regards to your comment i do love reusing older models in my current DA army. thanks for the interest :) and im glad you are resurecting your DA army. best of luck with that too. anyways i do hope you see this when you chk the thread again. cheers (06/01/09)

hey wiplash, yah i like them too, i think if we still had traits then they would embody True Grit dont you think? oh and im really flattered ~blushes~ i hope i can reward your loyalty by posting informative and useful material. thanks again man for taking the time to read through my thread. muchos gracias amigo ~smiles~

ok well here are some pics of Fallen Dark Angel Battle-Captain Ariel Nathanielle, who whilst travelling to a far flung battle zone aboard Strike Cruiser Lions Wrath along with 87 of his fellow Battle-Brothers was lost in the warp. after 1 year without any trace of their vessel or any of the Marines who were aboard her, the Chapter declared them as dead. 88 candles were lit for them in the sacred chapel within the depths of the Rock, the hallowed fortress monastery of the Dark Angels. Ariel and his fellow Battle-Brothers have made it their quest to fight to the bitter end for the Emperor regardless of the horrendous mutations many of the Battle-Brothers have endured during their time in the Warp. and they have made their way to the Eye of Terror to strike at Abbadons stronghold. i hope they succeed in their quest for redemption. Blessed be the Emperor. may he endure for evermore....

Nice to see progress on the vets, the green really is building up nicley, and it's very interesting seeing and hearing how the many DA players on here paint there models.

I think that everybody here has there on style, and yours is one of my favourites. Not too dark nor too light, but a nice middle ground that i find excellent for the DA chapter.

So good work there.

I really like the fluff for Ariel Nathanielle.

Shows the undying loyalty of the present day DA marines and thier willingness to serve and fight chaos no matter the obstacle in thier way.

Sorta reminds me of the legion of the damned and the 13th wulfen company, but cooler.

The model is sweet too.

Liking the use of the wings,if only because i think they are great sculpts.

To which models/s do the head and the arms belong?

And how will you be using him in your army?

Will we be seeing any of his comrades?

Maybe you could use them as counts as leigon of the damned?

So many questions!lol.

Anyways, keep up the inspirational work man,and get to work on the dread,id love to see how he'll look fully finished.

P.s.How are you doing your bases?

thanks chaplainmikey for your vote of confidence on the shade of green im using for my DA, and yah i noticed the huge number of Dark Angel WIP threads popping up and to be honest i think its great to see. its good to know there is a large number of DA painters/converters/collectors on the B&C. and yes we all have our own style and ways of doing things and thats what makes the hobby so great. theres just so much variety out there and different approaches to doing things.

im glad you like the background i did for Ariel but let me expand on what i have already written.

Ariel was formerly a member of the Dark Angel SOG (Special Operations Group), they specialize in searching for the Fallen, a role which the Ravenwing fulfil already, however the SOG operates in a slightly different manner. they often work in small strike forces of a couple of Company Veteran squads led by an Interrorgator Chaplain with Razorbacks and Rhinos in a support role. they often get assitance from the Ravenwing in the form of a couple of Landspeeders and several bikes.

they do not take Dreadnoughts or any other Heavy Support choices. they often infiltrate worlds and operate behind enemy lines gathering intelligence on the whereabouts of the Fallen. then in co-ordination with the Ravenwing conduct hit and run missions until there is an opportune time to use a snatch squad to capture a member of the Fallen alive.

any other surving members of the Fallen are executed and all traces of them are destroyed. they are a rapid reaction force and work very quickly to achieve their goals on a given operation. they hit hard and fast then disappear without leaving any trace of their actions.

after many succesful missions with the SOG Ariel was promoted to Battle-Captain and was instructed to lead the 3rd Battle Company. his first operational engagement as Battle-Captain was during the Atramis campaign. details of the Atramis mission can be found in a short story i started writing in the DA sub forum called "the Relief of Atramis"

subsequent to that he and his 87 fellow Battle-Brothers were on the Strike Crusier Angels "Absolute Vengeance" heading to a distant system pursuing rumours of the Lion Sword. while travelling through the Warp there was some kind of problem with the ship and whilst executing a daring Warp exit jump manouver a sudden Warp storm engulfed the ship and they were lost in the Warp.

one year after their disappearance Sapphon the Grand Master of Interrorgator Chaplains asked 88 candles to be lit in the chapel within the bowels of the Rock. Ariel and his 87 fellow Battle-Brothers were declared dead and hailed as heroes. their exploits were written in a tome called "The Everlasting Courage" and to this day they live on in the Chapters memory.

however unkown to any of the Dark Angels Ariel and his ship appeared suddenly close to the Eye of Terror. Ariel and his fellow Battle-Brothers had been trapped in a Warp strom for what must have seemed like a thousand years however only 4 years had passed since they were declared dead. Ariel and his Brothers were sadly affected by the ravages of the warp and all of them had mutated to some degree or other.

Ariel himself grew a pair of leathery wings from his back pack. the Battle-Brothers uninanimously decided that they should avoid Imperial Space and not contact the Chapter again. if any of their fellow Dark Angels came across them, they would be regarded as renegades and branded Fallen, they would be hunted without mercy and their ultimate end would be execution.

instead they would travel further in to the Eye of Terror and conduct daring raids against the forces of Chaos. their ultimate aim would be the assassination of Abbadon the Despoiler, the only Chaos follower capable of uniting all the rival Chaos factions in another Dark Crusade against the Imperium. Ariel knew if Abbadon was able to reunite the Chaos forces again the Imperium would perhaps be destroyed. somewhere out there Ariel and his Battle-Brothers are waging an eternal war against the forces of Chaos.

anyways back to the 21st centuary Earth lol. the model uses bits from the metal Grey Knights Justicar and a Chaos Marine head from the early Chaos Havocs box set, the wings are from the new Chaos Possesed plastics. theres a choice of several wings but i liked these ones best.

as to how i will use him in my army i will use the Chaos codex and use them in their own right as a small 1000 pts force. and yes their will be other members of the famous 88 to follow. so stay tuned! ~grins~

as to using the new 5th edition Legion of the Damned rules thats a great idea. i will have to seriously consider that. oh and basing is going to be fairly simple, just using GW sand for the moment but i have two of the 40K basing kits and razor wire so i might just go to town on the bases, i dont know really what to do.

anyways cheers for coming back to my thread. hope these answer your questions and if you have any more feel free to ask anytime.

peace

Hi Kanan, just finished going through the thread. That's some exceptional work there! One point that occured to me fluffwise about your uber Land Speeder. They're meant to be fast vehicles, I can't imagine your command variant getting much speed up :) The recoil alone would slow it to a standstill, particularly with the ubercannon mounted in the gunners position. I think the two heavy bolters and one assault cannon look awesome, the twin linked assault cannon looks seriously nasty but might be a little too much. I wonder if it would be able to get off the ground. In addition can you imagine how much the ammo for those high fire-rate weapons must weigh?! Incidentally the closest scale to 40K is 1:48

Fantastic stuff, keep up the phenomenal work!

Garro

p.s. loved the dreadnought!

hola LuNCHBiZZLe funny isnt it ~smiles~ i guess im a bit of a dark horse. i have to say though its been a long long time since i did any serious painting so im finding myself relearning techniques but its alot of fun. i had built up such a big collection of miniatures that it was a somehwat daunting prospect to paint them all. i am now taking more opportunities to paint them but still i love to build things ~grins~ i guess it comes from building lego and airfix kits from the age of around 7 onwards. its something thats stayed with me throughout my life and to be honest i find it very rewarding. im sure everyone here understands the building/collecting bug. thanks for the comment man.

hail Battle-Capain Garro, i guess you can tell which of the Horus Hersy books i enjoyed the most. ah that particular Landspeeder went in for a refit lol. having twin Heavy Bolters, an Assault Cannon and an Autocannon was a tad overkill and it did look bloody cumbersome. weight isnt an issue however as my DA heavily use suspensors ~sticks tongue out at you~ thanks for the approval on the twin linked Assault Cannon/twin Heavy Bolter Tsunami. thats one of my favourites so far. im flattered at all the praise ~grins~ thank you man, it means alot to me that you like what i do. you think 1/48th is better suited to W40K? i dont know as i havent ever had a 1/48th scale kit before. ill track something down and see how it looks, cheers for that. oh and the dreadnought is almost ready to be painted. i will be painting him maybe tonight and tommorow. it is good in a way to have so much stuff that needs painting as i can swap projects to keep my interest alive throught the winter.

thanks for all the interest guys.

thanks Snozz for the kind words ~smiles~. i really want to expand on Ariels story with maybe some more submissions from me regarding his exploits in the Eye of Terror. as soon as i can think of something decent to write ill post it up here so check back later.

hey HJL, the suppressors/silencers are lengths of Johnson & Johnson cotton buds (cue tips for all the americans out there) ive added a pic to show you, then all i do is cut them down to the right size. you have to be careful to make any cuts very straight and precise otherwise they will look wonky. anyways hope this helps somewhat.

Wow the marine looks great,kanan!

I really like the shade of green, looks spot on for a dark angel.

The aquila is gorgeous!

How did you paint it?

I like the black helmet with the red markings too, personalises each marine and gives them more character.

Good stuff man!

thanks chaplainmikey for the praise ~smiles~ the green is built up from a base of 1 part Orkhide Shade and 2 parts Dark Angel green then subsequent applications have increasing amounts of snot green added to the mix. the Aquila is basecoated Bestial brown then i painted it Golden yellow then i applied about 3 washes of Gryphonne Sepia and thats it so far. the helmet markings im not sure about, so far this is experimental. i want to try different types of markings with the others. cheers mate.

this is what i started tonight. im just building up the colour before i apply a wash of Thrakka green. comments and criticism welcome.
