hey rossco, glad you managed to get hold of the LAV. youre going to have a lot of fun building and painting it. hey im curious, what colour scheme are you giving the vehicles in your army? as i think some kind of jungle type camo would look great on the LAV. are you going to use it as a fast attack choice in your force? i have some stats for the LAV.

Ravenwing Light Armoured Vehicle: points - 100, front armour - 11, side armour - 10, rear armour - 10, BS - 4, type - fast vehicle, special options - transports 5, boosted engines, weapons - heavy bolter x 1, vehicle catagory - transport or fast attack, structure points - N/A.

hope this might be of some use. post up a message here letting me know how youre getting on.

cheers mate.

Hi kanan, do you know I was so tied up with just how cool the model is I hadn't even thought about how I was going to use it, so I owe you another thank you ! I'll use the stats you've provided so long as my regular opponents agree. As for the colour scheme, I'm not sure as yet. I have to agree that jungle DPM would look very good, one consideration is that the rest of my army are all based for city fight and I'd really like to tie my LAV to the rest of my force. all my other vehicles are standard consul black with plenty of road dust and minor damage, but the LAV does kind of scream for more attention than that doesn't it ?

hey rossco, glad youre going to use the stats although feel free to modify them. i think the stats i produced are pretty fair but the trick would be when equipping the LAV with say a razorback turret system or maybe even the twin linked assault cannons from the crusader, to factor that into the points cost and also the vehicles fast speed. it will make it expensive but the ability to move rapidly into position while still packing a punch and being able to transport 5 marines should make it worth it. with regards to colour scheme. black vehicles do look good and all you have to do is just spend a more time on highlighting and painting chapter iconography to make your LAV stand out. but you could also utilize an urban camo scheme on the whole vehicle if youre going to use it with your scouts. that would really look good but be careful on colour choice and camo pattern. try out your ideas on some white card just to see what the scheme will look like and help you figure out how to paint it. heres a link from GW for some ideas GW camo schemes

hope ive been of some help. keep me posted on what youre doing with the LAV. im really happy im not the only one to be using it in games now

anyways talk to you soon

Do you know what I think your work is quite amazing. I love the HBs on the speeder and the MM termy. I am a great fan of Tamiya models (used to use M113 APCs for my Rhinos) and that LAV is just the ticket.

Keep up the good work there.

Cheers

i just found the spare landspeeder heavy flamers i needed for my predator conversion. might also use some of the ablative armour from my unassembled 1/35th tamiya M60A1 to give it the appearance of extra armour.

Hi Kanan, thanks for the p.m

I am loving the heavy bolter landspeeder and will follow them to completion, almost certainly going to poach this idea.

A quick remark re; your predators ablative armour. For myself I would try and keep the extra arour more to the shape of the turret, unless you are planning on giving it some support bars or something

Here's a link for 'reactive armour' on an old school predator. It might give you some ideas

Hope the comment are inline.

Here is 'extra armour' on my razorback. I just used the side panels and tailgate from another rhino and some plasticard strip (costs less than FW stuff) and you get bits left over.

I really like the feel of this army. They're set up pretty much the way each army should be set-up. With their own personal look and sort of like they have their own background story.

The LAV in my opinion looks a bit big...but nonetheless still awesome. >_<

DGC, i like your razorback with extra armour alot. it looks like how a space marine vehicle should look. i think i will invest in some plasticard or 4mm foam board from my local art shop. they also sell architectural model making stuff so theres plenty of choice. My MKII was just an experiment using components from non GW kits. i had a tamiya 1/35th M60A1 which i hadnt got round to building and i wanted to use some of those bits on that predator.

it doesnt look nearly as professional as yours but i like it as it seems like a hasty in the field conversion done by a space marine tank commander and a tech marine with access to rudimentry ceramite and plasteel weave armour plates. imagine they are just on the brink of leading an assault against a heavily entrenched and fortified enemy and they will be spear heading the assault, imagine these space marine tank crews hastily retro-fitting these armour plates to their vehicles as the materials are being airlifted in by thunderhawk from an industrial manufactorum outside the battle zone perhaps on another continent. time is the critical factor here.

this after all is the prototype and the next few versions will have a more cohesive look to them. you have given me some good ideas which i hope you dont mind me incorporating them in my next few vehicles. let me know if you need some assistance with your speeder conversions as over the next few days i will be building another two more. i hope you make at least a squadron. i use them at my local GW store on game nights and my opponents generally dont mind me using them with my rules, but some people i havent played against before i use the "counts as" rule and field them as tornados. anyways thanks rob for the comments and the help.

Brother-Librarian Swintha, thank you for your comments. i just wanted my army to have a character and look of their own. and the whole back story of the Dark Angels and their Fallen brethren appeals to me greatly. some time in the future when i have finished around 3500 pts, i will play a joint force of my Fallen and regular DA. the total points for my side will be split evenly across both forces.

initially the DA will start the game on their own then from the second turn onwards depending on the roll of a D6 the fallen will appear randomly to assist the DA force in prosecuting their foe, then at the end of the game it will be assumed that they will leave the battlefield via thunderhawk and thunderhawk transporters, leaving the system in their fleet which includes a battle barge on their quest to atone for the past and stand once more at the Emperors side.

oh and before i forget the LAV is a vehicle that has a crew of 2 and transports 5 power armoured marines so it will be big. but i have yet to find a scale of model kit that really looks right for the perposes of W40K games, 1/48th seems too small for marines and 1/35th is a teeny bit too big but tamiya makes great 1/35th kits so i guess they will be the ones i would use.

The Pred's extra armour looks like the kinda hasty field 'improvements' often carried out. It looks a bit raw at present, but the painting wil bring it all together no doubt.

Those Vet squad additions look very neat – the poses of the plasmagunner and strom shield guy being particularly dynamic.

Cheers

hey thanks Isiah, i have this thing about not having enough veterans so, and this is the truth, i have two tactical squads and 5 veteran squads so far lol. they are attached to my 3rd Battle Company led by the legendary Company Master Ariel and Interrorgator Chaplain Uriel (holder of 2 Black Pearls).

Oh i undercoated the MKII predator and you know what? i am liking it even better. it somehow manages to look more purposeful with a coat of GW spray. thanks for the vote of confidence on that. i also have 9 Deathwing which will be joined by 2 more squads when i go to GW to buy the teminator box sets i need. half the terminators are going to be made up as Fallen and the other half Loyal Dark Angels. i just need some ideas on the look for those Fallen guys. so any assistance would be welcome, i will consider any ideas that are thrown around.

Long time no see, Stella Cadente! i was thinking maybe using 4mm or 5mm foam board and or plasticard for the next 2 ablative (extra armour) MKII's i will be rolling out. oh and i have two tornado kits with 2 sets of predator heavy bolters waiting to be made into a couple of my heavy support landspeeders AKA Tsunami variant landspeeder

ok here a a couple of pics of the MKII with undercoat and 1 more of the veterans so you can see the posing a bit more clearly.

anyways adios for now

Great start !!

That has been very well painted for someone new to the hobby, showing good brush control with good clean lines. We have all started somewhere and your friend is definately showing promise. Keep teaching him the basics, dry brushing next, maybe followed by basic shading and extreme highlighting, then through that he will start to develope his own style.

Not all of us aspire to Golden Demon but with patience and practise we can put some so called 'pro' painters to shame. I would say (for myself anyway) that painting is one of those things you always keep learning, look at your first figure compared to where you are now and you will see what I mean.

Keep up the good work
