What I'm working on at the moment

well i was looking at one of my Tsunami and it seemed like it was missing something. anyways i added an autocannon from the IG Cadian Heavy Weapon Team. i would be interested in what you guys thought of it. to me it seems like the ultimate in mobile fire support. bit like an Apache Longbow for W40K. or even a flying Predator!

so people let me know what you think.

I'm not sure about this variant tbh. As cool as it looks it doesn't seem practical - it would be cumbersome and impractical to operate such a weapon from a seated position. It also imbalances the aesthetics of the Tsunami. There's something very appealing in the symmetrical similarity of the variant, it would be a shame to spoil it for the use of such an overkill. Plus, I doubt it would be able to get off the ground! ;)

Perhaps you could include it on another attempt - cut away some sort of pulpit in which the gunner can sit. Better yet, have it turret mounted - you could use the enclosed 1-pilot landspeeder kit from forge world as the basis.

The Red Dragon, thanks for the comments man. i take it lords of destruction is heavy metal. anyways thanks for following my work. i hope to come up with some more decent conversions over the next few weeks.

thanks Sgt Stabby for your idea. i think you are right in that as it stands that particular Tsunami variant doesnt look quite right. a nose mount is a good idea.

Patrick O))) hey man glad you like the basic Tsunami so much. with regards to it seeming too cumbersome, i guess suspensors would offset the weight in addition to the effects of the anti-grav plate on the underside of the Landspeeder. but i will agree with you and Sgt Stabby, after having a second look at this particular Tsunami variant it does look not quite right and the autocannon does spoil the overall aesthetics of the basic Tsunami. to be honest i was not completely sure when i put it on, as i did not glue it, it was just clipped onto the gunner rail. oh and i have seen the Forgeworld Landspeeder. its nice but i would like to use the plastic kit to come up with an alternative. maybe with the use of plasti-card, green stuff and other bits i could come up with something convincing.

i think i will possibly mount the autocannon as a chin mount on the next Landspeeder Tsunami i have un-assembled on my work table. either that or as Patrick O))) suggested in some kind of gunner pulpit. thanks guys.

does anyone have any ideas for taking the Tsunami variant further??? well if any of you guys do then post me what ideas you have here. as i am going to be getting some Predator Heavy Bolters from Bitz Box, with a view of making a few more Tsunami variants.

anyways thanks for all the interest. i am glad the Tsunami seems to have been well recieved by everyone, that makes me smile alot.

thank you.

nice conversion 195killer195. thanks for posting this up. i had seen it before as Shem from GW Kingston has one in his Salamanders army. i hadnt come across the tutorial before though. im not sure i would build one however as i use the LAV as my wheeled armour of choice. also glad you liked my Tsunami variant speeder. i am however working on another speeder conversion. i will post up pics when i have something more solid, right now i just have bits of speeder and ideas waiting to be realised.

hey Rossco! great to see you. glad you like the Tsunami variant so much. question is will you make one? i would like to see your take on it. and you really do have to get that LAV from Newton Abbott. and yah i do like to come up with new ways of modding GW kits. do you remember the Spartan class Land Raider from Rogue Trader? well i have an idea to make a version using the LRC and Rhino kits. i wont have the cash till the end of the month to buy the kits but i do have some ideas jotted down on paper. if im confident i can pull it off then i will post up pics as i go. and yes my Dark Angels are pretty terrifying at the moment. lol, thing is theres still so much more i want to do.i want to get at least 2 more LRCs and a couple of Rhinos in addition to the 2 unopened Ravenwing Battle Forces & 3 Tactical squads i have sitting around. i have been playing C&C3 too much lately. anyways speak to you soon mate.

ok i have been working on an enclosed variant of the Tsunami Landspeeder. here is what i have so far. im using plastic sheet i got from the inserts in pokemon packaging. its clear and pretty rigid and the thickness of thin card. super glues nice and easy. the canopy is not anywhere close to being finished. but this is what i have done so far.

ok while im waiting for feedback on the canopy i was playing around with a couple of weapon configurations.

weapon mount A

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t229/zrolimit88/DSC03675.jpg

weapon mount B

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t229/zrolimit88/DSC03676.jpg

my feelings are to go with weapon mount B, but is there anyone with a preference for A???

+++ edit +++

ok well this is how the new Tsunami variant looks. i went for a fully enclosed canopy with vision ports in the front armour. short of adding Ravenwing specific insignia and finishing off assembling the rest of the bits its pretty complete in terms of looks. im pretty happy with it but cutting out the individual canopy sections was tricky, once i got one side measured up i made a template so i would be accurate with the corresponding side. its still not perfect. theres stuff i have noticed that im not so happy with but i did say awhile ago that i would make an enclosed Landspeeder so here it is. more pics will go up soon showing the final weapon configuration i went for. i still am in two minds about going with the Autocannon or maybe taking a twin linked Assault Cannon.

comments and criticism most welcome.

Hail Brother!

I just had a read of the whole thread to get up to speed and take in the feel of your force.

-Tsunami-

I think the side mounted Autocannon looks the best aesthetically and the most functional (Which with your more military themed style probably suits your army more anyway). But I was thinking to fit with those awesome Land Speeders with the Predator Hvy Bolters you should put a second Autocannon on the other side (As like me you seem to be a big fan of very shooty Dark Angels).

Another idea I had for the Autocannon was mounting it onto the Ground Proximity Sensor under the engines, again to keep the muzzle closer to the front of the Speeder for faster aiming. But it might make mounting to the flying base a little annoying.

One last side though I had about the military feel of your army was all those recon vehicles (the Jap AV and the Speeders) should have big whip antennae for long range comms to report their intel.

Also wanted to know, What did you use to prime the Land Raiders Green? (I have spent hours painting my Predator green O_o; ~twitch twitch~)

Excellent Army by the way  Love the Special Forces style Bolters

Exulto Emperator! Victoria eternus El'Johnson!

well met fellow Battle-Brother, praise be to the Lion!

i agree with you, with respects to the autocannon. i feel a side mount is more appropriate and looks alot better. mounting the autocannon on the ground proximity sensor is also a good idea, i hadnt thought of it before. ill look into it and see whether its feasable.

im glad im not alone in wanting a shooty Dark Angel army. as the first founding legion we still have alot of the rarer tech, weapons and equipment that other chapters would be envious of.

i did put a whip aerial on the LAV which i made from 1mm copper wire from maplins. i got a reel of the stuff for a couple of quid and its amazing. i use it for all my pinning needs as well. the LRC i have has also got a whip aerial made from the same stuff. oh and that particular green is a tamiya acrylic spray TS-70 JGSDF olive drab.

Tamiya website (spray colour selection)

i primed the vehicles first chaos black then i left them for an hour, then i sprayed the tamiya green spray over the top of that. i used a few light coats with each colour as opposed to 1 heavy coat. that way i didnt obscure any detail.

thanks for the interest and the kind words. with my Dark Angels i do want them to look like a very imposing and hard hitting force. so lots of recon and vehicles mixed with plenty of quality troops.

i do like making those SOG Bolters. i really like them alot ~smiles~. anyways how is your army coming along. got any big projects in the pipeline? id be interested in hearing about what youre upto.

For the Lion!!! For the Emperor!!!

Death or Glory!!!

ok after using GS on the side armour to hide the slight mismatch between armour plates i undercoated my new Tsunami variant pattern D. this is a very crude prototype so please bear that in mind when you look at it.

cheers

~The canopy was a really cool way to go. Although it might help if there were side viewing slits as well.

~The choice to place the auto canno underneath was a good one. As I was scrolling down I was going to suggest that until you made the change.

~To smooth out the surface of the canopy theres a few things you can do.

1. scratch sand the bubbled raised areas off the cannopy as normal. Then Replace the primer with brushed on primer. Then used a think paint called Red Gore. It goes on pretty thick. What I would di is paint over those ares where the brushed primer is to sort of spackle the effected areas and raise the paint level back to the primer thickness.

2. When the paint is freshly dry, I would use a sculpting tool that is wetted down and gently roll the smooth edge over the paint and paint sculpt the gore unto the surface and smooth it all out. Then apply black over that when its smooth.

It actually goes pretty quick. And when the paints dry it like glue.

Really cool stuff as always sir. :)

Looks great all closed up I was always a fan of the Tempest. Slap some rivets on there it will mask the rough job on the canopy, can you sharpen the edges making them more defined?

Dual Autocannons for the win and a nice addition would probably be an under slung heavy bolter (Of the Cadian Hvy Weapon team sprew) or an Assault Cannon if it's not to pricey.

-You can take Damael as an example of my opinion on shooty Dark Angels-

As for my current Projects, I have a rather nice Dreadnought that needs painting (and a bloody Plasma Cannon!) and Predator that needs more green O_o I'm slowly putting my Terminators together but I'm waiting on better weather to prime them (Lots of humidity in Brisbane particularly with White Primer). I have one and a half Tac Squads painted up that I want to take pics of to post here.

I am also painting up some Ultramarines for a friend, I'm going to post the Dread I did for him because it turned out 80% better than I imagined (I kinda wanna keep it now lol).

Master Toddius, glad you liked the canopy idea although my execution of it could have been better. im still not sure what this variants weapon loadout will be. as to your advice, i think i will add side vision ports and use your method to smooth out the roughness of the canopy. i will try doing that when i start work on the Tsunami again. i also used a scalpel and trimmed off some of the GS and sanded it so it looks more like a flat armour plate rather than how it was. i feel there is more GS work to be done to hide the joins in the plastic sheet i used. thanks mate for all the advice and interest. i will be checking your thread for any updates since the last time i was on there.

Usiel, i like your idea to add some rivets alot. and i like you am a fan of the tempest, it a great flyer. like i said before im not sure what to do weapons wise. although you have some good ideas there. what colour scheme will you give the dreadnought? did you manage to track down some of that Tamiya spray? id also like to see those Tactical Squads. ill keep an eye out for your posts.

i was a little disappointed with how the speeder canopy turned out and i was gonna ditch it but then after reading the posts from you and Master Toddius i renewed my enthusiasm for it. its just it does seem quite rough and not up to my usual standard of work. thanks for all the feedback guys.

ok well i started on a squad of terminators tonight. just assembled one of them. i used bass guitar wire instead of some of the power cabling. should i go ahead and do this to all members of the squad?

well that depends. if you are playing a friendly game and you have paid fair points and the special rules are not silly then its fine but otherwise you will have to play them as 'counts as' and either use the rules for a standard Tornado or an Attack bike.

Hail Brother!

Your Deathwing are looking good I will have to hurry up and put my WIP ones up so you can see mine. :P I like that you have gone with the more Deathwing traditional Native American style names. I opted to name all my Astartes after angels and fallen.

I like the base string it looks great but was there a reason? it doesn't look like the arms were repositioned.

Where is the Tempest, did you put two Autocannons on it? (You know you want to, obey the shooty... O_O )

hail fellow Battle-Brother, glad you liked my Deathwing, i will have 3 more posted up pretty soon. i am looking forward to seeing your WIP Marines so post them up when you can. yah i do like the Native American names and i remember fondly the story in the novel Deathwing about the lone squad of Terminators who arrive at their main recruiting world to find it overrun by Genestealers. they promptly re-paint their armour bone white according to the Rites of Deathwing and proceed to eradicate all the stealers. im trying to recall the names of those few Terminators. there was Lame-Bear, Two Heads Talking and Weasel Fierce, i think but i forget the rest. if anyone remembers their names then i would appreciate if they could post it up here. thanks

anyways back to my Deathwing, youre right, i didnt reposition the arms on the LC Terminator but i wanted to see if bass guitar wire would look ok for the power hosing. it seems to so i guess i will be adopting it with some of the other members of the squad. as to the Tempest, work is on hold for the moment until i can figure out what to do with it. i think your ideas for the weapons loadout are good and i think thats how i will arm it when its finished. for now heres some pics of the Tempest after a little sanding, note the addition of side view ports. (thanks Master Toddius for that) :tu:
