Lord Graviax of the World Eaters

The pose does convey his motion, that being charging forwards. His hand placement on the glaive, however, is too far apart, in my opinion. I base this on years of playing lacrosse, and the need to have your hands placed properly on the stick for maximum velocity. Basically, his right hand should be about a hands distance lower on the shaft. This way, he would be able to generate maximum torque through his body and out to the end of the weapon, thereby increasing the damage caused. (Try it out yourself, if you don't believe me.) By spacing your hands too far apart, you are actually working against your body's mechanics. Bringing your hands in closer, the torque can be generated from the soles of your feet until you release it into the weapon.

Definetly, you do get more torque out of a longer lever arm (axe past his right hand). In this case, the size of the model and teh powerfists would not allow me to bent the arms more to place the hands closer. The chest is too wide and his non-existant wrists could not have been bent in a realistic matter (because lets face it this armor design isn't realistic). Gave it a try, ackward as heck, so I went with that. ON a power armor model it's definetly a thing to do though.

There was no other weapons mainly for composition, to keep thins simpler, a purer form, uncluttered. I could have crammed it with gold trims, severed heads, spikes, but I thing a certain purity in the lines and objects is appealing in its own. I placed the chains at the waist simply to reinforce the movement of the model, not to actually have severed heads on him. But when you can do both... Besides, I think his Gauntlets qualify as secondary weapons :(

I'm working on a little step by step tutorial on how I did the red/gold armor with chips). I might present it to White Dwarf.

CoD Table that's right! I need to take pics of that... lighting in my game room is terrible though, but I'll try.

:ermm: :woot: Yikes! That's AMAZING! Tell us how you did the weathering on the armour? Please?

And stop with thinking the photos are crap, although what you say about NMM looking better in pictures your metallics are well enough done to compensate for that. And most of the mini is a sculpt? Gah! :( It's so pretty, how mnay did you go through before getting this mini done right?

It's all sculpted aside from terminator chest, enlarged of course, so that's what, 96%? Really the hardest part is designing exactly what you want to do. This model was the first try, but that's because MAgic Sculp (or milliput) allows you to carve the errors right out, and sand the surfaces to very smooth as much as you want. So this is Mark 1. I am currently working on a little tutorial for the armor, for those who don'T read allt he posts :P

My !!!

This is such a superb performance !

Dynamism is the lacking part in 40k universe and you performed soooo well with a Termi !

When are you making a "Figostage" here ? Its your turn now. But be sure of one thing : You'll never pass frontier without bringing a few minis with you.

This is absolutely stunning.

Well a Figostage I'm always up for. But I don't know where there are sufficient people to hold such a painting ''seminar''. Therefore, I rely on you guys to gather up interested people in your community, and invite me over. Some people have already started gathering, so I might have one such seminar booked next year. It is always a pleasure to meet people interested in pushing their painting further.

Damn, you're married now. Next you'll have kids who you take under your wing and make them just as, if not more awesome now.

My chances of becoming your apprentice are gone :'(

ANYHOO

What can I say? You've out-done yourself yet again. In my opinion, I still think Magmatrax was more awesome, but if you're happy, then we all should be.

Well it'S all a matter of style. Magmatrax and Hellblade are clearly North-american style. I wanted to learn and prove to myself that I could do it in a different style. Over in Europe this terminator is much preferred, though around here it seems to be the opposite. I just enjoy trying both styles because tehre is a lot of valuable things to learn from each style.

Quite nice sir! I think the model is incredible, 96% sculpted? Astounding. The sytle is incredible. It is very interesting, seeing the evolution of your skills, from something (while nice) that is not quite as realistic, to something that holds some of the ultra-realistic styles that are quite prevalent in Europe. Congrats on the well deserved win, and your marriage. Hope that went smoothly.

Just a question - you DID use NMM on the metal areas... right?

If you would have actually read the second paragraph in the initial post of this thread then you would know that he used metallic paints and not NMM.

ok, where did you learn to sculp? You must teach me!

Fantastic job, I love this guy, and for a long time I've wanted to see you do metalic metals, as I particularly abhor NMM. (it just looks simply... not good in 3 dimensional formats IMHO) And Wow, just wow. One more mini that makes me feel horribly inferior in my modeling/painting skills.

all in all, Awesome job man.

Seriosly tho, where would you recomend looking for some good painting and sculpting tutorials so that I might learn to create as good as you?

I learned by trying. Asking people on Coolminiornot that made things that I wanted to learn about, and then trying on my own. Sculpting with magic sculp or Milliput that you can sand and correct afterwards is the best way, you can't make a mistake you can't fix, unlike GS. Painting goes along the same lines. I haven't saved any particular tutorials, but there are good ones at coolminiornot.com, and here at the B&C. I'm working on a tutorial right now that will treat the red armor and gold the way it was done on Graviax, wait a few weeks and have a read

Your last resort, gather friends, pay me an airplane ticket and I'll come over and show you how I do it :)
