Brother Aristeo
No, absolutely no Word Bearers! I HATE marines with parchment and scrolls all over them! I'm in the process of removing all of the purity seals from a squad of Terminators at the moment. I really wish GW would make the models WITHOUT the purity seals... Okay, rant over. I think this model makes a great Khorne Berzerker, but I have decided that it definitely WILL NOT be one. I'm going to try out some other Chaos bits later on though. I have 2 armies in the works currently. This is going to be a part of one of them, but which one I don't know yet. Updates later tonight. Ekkanus
This is a really cool project. I especially like what you've done with the backpack, gives me a few ideas for my own army....but anyhoo good luck in finding a colour scheme that fits. Looking forward to the finished product. Brother Aristeo
Thanks Ekkanus, I'm glad you like it. Here are some pics with Chaos bits added on: http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/jasperjarvis/001-1.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/jasperjarvis/003-1.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/jasperjarvis/002-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/109844-mark-5-armour/page/3/#findComment-1596851 Share on other sites
RWJP
This a brilliant project that you've done really well... But, IMHO I think he looked a lot better as a loyalist Space Marine, rather than one of the more Chaotic variety... As someone said earlier, something like pre-heresy Salamanders would be awesome, as they are so uncommon in that guise... But hey, that's just my $0.02, keep up the awesome work! Crusader of Dorn
It seems you spent alot of time converting the helmet, so why waste that effort by giving the miniature a standard WE or CSM head? It looks good the way it is. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/109844-mark-5-armour/page/3/#findComment-1597170 Share on other sites
Brother Aristeo
Thanks guys! Don't worry, I'll use the helmet I designed for it. I'm just trying out some Chaos stuff to see how it looks. Point being, I think I could definitely use this type of conversion for some Chaos Marines. Brother Aristeo
How's this for a color scheme? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/109844-mark-5-armour/page/3/#findComment-1598890 Share on other sites
Asmodeus' Swordhand
I like it, but it seems overly simple... do up a test model, schemes always look better in paint Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/109844-mark-5-armour/page/3/#findComment-1598901 Share on other sites
Brother Aristeo
I like simple when it comes to painting. I think it gives it a more realistic quality. Of course I'm into weathering and battle damage, so that will add some flavor to it. Here's another color scheme. It's supposed to be dark gray, not black. ImperialTemplari
hey Brother Aristeo, either colour scheme would be good but the battle damage would stand out more on the bone scheme so I would go with that. Brother Aristeo
Does it look bone color? I was going for a desert khaki. Oh well, it was my first time using the Marine Painter and I had trouble getting the exact colors I wanted. I'm going for a desert scheme. Does it work? Is it the wrong color? Let me know what you guys think. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/109844-mark-5-armour/page/3/#findComment-1601797 Share on other sites
Asmodeus' Swordhand
No it works. I totally thought it was khaki. Roll with it I say. maybe add dome off white for definition? do up a test model I say. Brother Aristeo
What's the difference in the color scheme between Pre and Post-Heresy Night Lords? I always thought they looked the same, they just added bat wings to their helmets after the Heresy. I really like the Night Lords scheme, but I've never wanted to make an army of them. Here's a variation of the first scheme I did. I made it darker so it can't be confused with bone. How about the helmet stripe? Yes? No? I haven't had much time to work on this model lately, but I hope to have it finished sometime this weekend so I can start painting it. Brother Aristeo
Here's one with some robes. I'm not putting any robes on this model, but I have 2 boxes of Dark Angels so I thought I'd see what it looked like. I like this scheme, I am not a huge fan of the warrior-monk aspect of the marines as a whole. I think it is more likely that some chapters are more "religious" than others and that there are chapters out there that are just hard-core killing machines. This colour scheme would be one of those chapters! The white stripe certainly stands out, perhaps you could use coloured stripes to indicate rank (white = BB, red = sergeant, blue?=captain ...)? Maratheus
A mk5 would look great in dark colours in my opinion but it's completely up to you. I just have to say that this is one of the most smoothest conversions I have ever seen. Brother Aristeo
I painted this a while ago and haven't had a chance to post it. I still need to paint the eyes and chapter icon. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/jasperjarvis/009.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/jasperjarvis/006-1.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/jasperjarvis/010.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/jasperjarvis/007-1.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t236/jasperjarvis/008-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/109844-mark-5-armour/page/3/#findComment-2071462 Share on other sites

Marshal van Trapp
haha it took you a year to put on the rivets and another to paint it? :) just kidding, i like him. Very nice paint job and equally great conversion, now just like 80 more to go! hahaha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/109844-mark-5-armour/page/3/#findComment-2071480 Share on other sites
Brother Tuditanus
I would pick the rivets out in a dark bronze/copper color... I've never been a fan of rivets being the same color as the armor... It looses the effect some, even when you take the steps you have. Dwarf bronze perhaps, with a heavy dark wash? Brother Aristeo
Thanks for the comments. Since I started this, I've had 2 children, lost 2 computers, changed jobs and moved into a new place. It really didn't take me that long to work on this, it's moreso that I would pack my hobby stuff away for months at a time and only work on it here and there. I actually painted this 4 or 5 months ago after I unpacked it after moving. It had sat for months with just a white basecoat on it and I couldn't stand to see it go unfinished. I painted the rivets on the shoulder with bronze and gold and I just didn't think it looked very good. Plus, most of the time rivets are painted metallic and I wanted something a little different. The paint scheme on this model came from looking at a lot of pictures of tanks and equipment used in the Middle East and I thought it looked more realistic to have the rivets painted over. Since the armour matches the base, I made the cables contrast the armour by giving them a dirty and slightly oily look. The Black Watch
I can't imagine the level of patience you needed to do all those rivets but I certainly don't have it. Now sell it to GW so they can mass produce it for the rest of us! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/109844-mark-5-armour/page/3/#findComment-2071931 Share on other sites
