Cpt_Tiberius
The personal symbol for the emperor is the Aquila, that is why it was a big deal that he let the Emperor's Children wear it on their armor. During the Pacification of Terra, his symbol was the Lightning bolt, which is why Mk.1 power armor was called thunder armor. As there are already a couple of eagles on his armor as is, I'd go with so Roman-style lightning. As for your minis, I think that proportion-wise they are perfect and match the artwork for them quite well. I know many people have wanted to see the legs bigger, but I like the way they look as at first glance you immediatly know that they are not marines. Your sculpting is quite good though there is room for improvement, but the sheer thought of hand-sculpting an entire army is impressive in it's own right. I am excited to see it finished. :tu: Good Luck! -T. Stahlregen
I think I read somewhere that the emperor's personal icon was a sun/lightning symbol, and that it was worn by his first marines - in place of the imperial aquila. You can see it on the one or two MK1 armor marine models from the RT area - pics are here for example: http://www.solegends.com/citcat911/c2007sm...rvariants-h.htm http://it.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...;orignav=301117 http://wh40k.lexicanum.de/wiki/Bild:Arm_mk1.jpg http://wh40k.lexicanum.de/wiki/Bild:ThunderArmour-R2.jpg The emperor's as one would expect from you - great paint shop and good Gs work. Although the stepping pose is a bit overdone. I'm looking forward to the details. capt.nuss
Painting is all blood sweat n tears. This is his third face, and he's driving me crazy... i'll probably do a fourth one. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j92/wieims/PICT0268.jpg The sword is still WIP, but i don't quite know, what was my idea behind it... http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j92/wieims/PICT0269.jpg perhaps some runes on it...? or add soms script? or redo it as normal metal?! I dunno. I finally found the Emperors Symbol.... ^_^ sorry... perhaps more a german gag http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j92/wieims/PICT0270.jpg he'll soon get his Lightning symbol http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j92/wieims/PICT0271.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1296922 Share on other sites
Pulse
Very very nice work, i love the sculpt! Great work on the painting so far as well, although i personally would have had him taller but even still, cracking work. Nice use of the famous picture to guide your work. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1296969 Share on other sites
tagsta
lol the GDR! please remove it though =) the sword looks perfectly ok... maybe get rid of the whole head and replace it with a standard SM bare head ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1297530 Share on other sites
Pulse
Why would he replace it with a normal space marine head? Surely he would need to make a better one. You not seen the famous picture its based on then tagsta? LordSion
i agree the head doesnt look right, maybe add more hair so you can drape bits over the not so good parts? other than that it is fairly amazing, the 'german joke' is a bit odd (gotta love those commies) but looks like it might work if it was part of a bigger pattern. maybe try some gold patterning round the edges of the cloak Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1297802 Share on other sites
capt.nuss
I don't know if i made it perfectly clear.... The Tabbard will NOT stay that way. It was just a 5-minute-painting joke. It will be redone overall, no commies anywere. But i'm really thinking about redoing the head... perhaps even using a standard one. I just did not find the perfect bit yet. BrotherLoki
I've seen an excellent Emperor model made using one of the heads with long hair from the Brettonian Knights sprue. Perhaps you could look at that as a base? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1298013 Share on other sites

warboss grimlok
i'd go for the brettonian head as brotherloki said, when compared to the pictures from horus heresy books there is a very strong resemblance great work so far, amazing sculpts, keep it up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1298870 Share on other sites
capt.nuss
The bretonian knight head doesn't work, i tried one. It is simply too small, and doesn't look right. I'll experiment with some heads from the inquisitor range, we'll see. I'll show you the result as soon as there is one. I'll show you the result as soon as there is one. try Inquisitor Covenant's head.. its rather regal ish with a look of grrr but you will need to re do the hair as its in a topknot, but i think the head just might be too big cos im not too sure on the scale of your emperor model Covenants head: http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...;orignav=300808 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1299014 Share on other sites
capt.nuss
*gg* i ordered Covenants head just yesterday.... By the way, do sisters of silence count as power armoured in the sense of the forum rules? And Malcador or the Lord Commander of the imperial forces of Terra? capt.nuss
Though not in power armor, i'll post him anyway: the LordCommander of Terra. He's just a little sculpt for practice and to get something else to do than custodes and custodes and... As the highest rank of the imperial army he belongs to the emperors posse just like malcador does. I wanted a look just between old general Hindenburg, a commissar and a bit of the later Hitler. In game he'll be an inquisitor or perhaps a kind if henchman for malcador. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j92/wieims/PICT0274.jpg I'M just about starting work on the sisters of silence. Tabris
All of your minis look brilliant. Especially the Custodes. They look very ornate, and I can't think of the word at the moment. Anyway, they look exactly how I'd think they look, commanding, but without the bulk of Space Marine power armour. capt.nuss
This is the new head of the emperor model. Covenant's head had turned out to big. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j92/wieims/PICT0276.jpg Tell me what u think about the face Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1305776 Share on other sites
Hydra
I think the head is much too big  remember that the armour is inches thick and actually has a very muscular body inside, so either the chestplate is too small or the head is. lilbill
i completely disagree i think that this is the best face yet ad it simply shows the determanation with this guy to get simply the best face.i think it is extreemily expressive and screams charcater and personally weather its to big or not the face has a lot of sculpted detail and besides the emperor was very very clever he needs a big head to hold a big brain! warboss grimlok
i agree that the head is a masterpiece of sculpting, but i gotta say it does look way too big, but still, great work  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1305867 Share on other sites
Pulse
@cpt.russ - I love the sculpt a lot but i have to agree with Hydra and say that the head is to big, it dwarfs his shoulder pads. If you look at the picture you are taking reference from, the shoulder pad edges come roughly to the top of the Emperors head that end in a slight point. Also just to be picky in the picture you are using for reference the Emperors right shoulder pad, the top of the trim edge is spiked, the spikes slope backwards towards his rear. Hope this helps. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110520-adeptus-custodes/page/4/#findComment-1305928 Share on other sites
capt.nuss
ok... ok.... *deep breath* ...your judgement is clear. So i'll take a nipper and rip his head of and try a third one. I have to think about showing the third one, as a fourth one would probably be a motivation killer... :tu: ... we'll see. Number one priority is now on other minis first. If i decapitate the emperor twice...Horus would be very prowd of me. @ Pulse Who the hell is cpt.russ ?!? Dark Sensei
Give a look at Felix's head from fantasy range. Soup on your head ! Do not make confusion with Gotrek, squattish emperor would not please GW ! capt.nuss
I think the Felix head would be way to small... It needs to be about mid size between Inquisitor and 40k. Not that easy to get your hands on. Perhaps i'll make one with pointy ears and send the pic to GW and use it as my avatar.
