Wolf Lord Loki
With this direct link to snakes or wyrms, IS have an incredibely different system concerning poison. Should a brother be bitten by a snake, it is considered a good omen. The toxins will be momentarily effective on the astartes warrior, then, the poisons will be stored within a particular gland, allowing the stolen toxin to be released from the Iron Snake should it bite an adversary. IS are very ritualistic in nature, and it is a punishable act to not have a helm on. Models in armies can easily represent this by making sure to include one on their person, and it is not uncommon for them to have either crests or Wyrm markings. Hair is usually black, tied in either rows or shaved, and their complexion is rather pale. It is standard practice for all brothers to be clean shaven. While I can understand their view about the poison bite it strikes me as being slightly contary to them insisting on wearing helms. If they attribute so much importance to absorbing poison and then being able to use it on an adversary wouldn't that suggest that they would be encouraged to remove their helms to do this? And my second point would be the only time i've seen them before would be in Warhammer monthly and then their chief librarian had wild hair and a shaggy beard, hardly the neat appearence discribed thus far!! :teehee: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/112858-iron-snakes-101/page/2/#findComment-1303075 Share on other sites
Tyrannicide
It is a wonderful book! It's the best 40k novel I have ever read and Dan Abnett does an extremely well job, fleshing out the Iron Snakes Chapter. Candleshoes I think you have summarized everything on the IS, good job. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/112858-iron-snakes-101/page/2/#findComment-1305300 Share on other sites
quiethood
On an interesting note, the Iron Snakes get a very brief mention as being part of the Medusa V campaign. It mentions their Terminators played a role in defeating the Tyranids in the frozen north, or something to that effect. I know it's on the space marine section of the reports, towards the end week 8 or 9, I think. Go Skypio! I looked on the GW Medusa sight, it's in the final report Edited July 15, 2007 by quiethood Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/112858-iron-snakes-101/page/2/#findComment-1305330 Share on other sites
SCC
@Candleshoes: Perhaps we could get you to produce a small article on the IS for the Librarium? TheLibrarium submissions requested thread gives some examples of the kind of thing we're after and I think you're the most qualified person here to write up a Chapter brief for the Iron Snakes. liggu
Though I do think that C:SM have better Librarians than DA i think its the other way around hellfire is an awesome power before going into HTH combat, using a flamer template with 2d6 - 2 str and d6 its a little random but ussually about 6 str and 3 ap in my expirence. quiethood
I wasn't trying to step on any Dark Angels toes with my comment. I wasn't saying that DA Librarians suck. I just think comparing the randomness of the DA psycic powers versus current C:SM Librarian's powers, the C:SM is more fitting to the description of the IS Librarian. The description of Petrok in the novel just seems more in line with the the C:SM version. Plus you can give C:SM Librarians an invulnerable save without using your psycic power. Overall, not a big deal. I suppose it would just be preference at this point, at least until GW comes out with some kind of rules for the IS. bighammer1
Hi all, I'm in the middle of Brothers of the Snake as well. Great book!!! But one thing bothers me. The Iron Snakes maintain the standard 1,000 Battle Brothers as per the Codex Astartes. If that's true, I find it hard to believe that even though Dreadnought Tactical Armor is traditionally a relic, that they can't scrape together more than five suits. I believe that there are more than one Terminator squads in the chapter. The passage that I found in the book below supports that theory: "...Skypio, or the Terminator elite..." The entirety of the paragraph touches on marines who joined the chapter in the hope of advancement and glory. Just my two cents. DarkWaffle
hi guys, Just a little bit off the flow of this Topic atm, but after reading the book I noticed that IS seem to operate with a complete lack of armour (in the use of tanks) the only reference i can remember about any vehicle is the Rhino they travel in on Ceres (the world where they fight the Khorne cultists), and the dreadnought 'Autolochus'. So basically, does the Iron Snakes Chapter operate with no armoured support in the way of Preds, Whirlwinds and the like?
