'Soul Reapers' Chaos Marines

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the comments. I do appreciate the feedback.

I should have the DP done late Saturday :teehee: , God willin' and the river don't rise.

I've decided not to update with any more WIP pictures I'll save the Photos for when he's finished. So I'll post him up in the HoH and place a link to him here

The new decoration looks good. I liked the drill (it was different)

but the ungor head looks well done and fits with a khorne DP.

I know you are concentrating on getting the DP finished, but

have you thought about your base? I'm just wondering what

ideas you have for it.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks for the comments guys. Sorry about the delay updating but I dropped and messed up the shutter on my camera.

He is done and posted in the hall of honor. Finished DP

brninghalo I'll take a few good pics of the base and post them in the HoH thread.

All I need to do now is to decide what project model to work on next while I await the arrival of a new pot of red paint. (I canno paint anymore Zerks 'til it gets here)

RT era Predator updated to a modern chassis?

Chaos Heresy era Dreadnought?

Decisions, Decisions.... :P

Ok, I really like the way the DP's armor turned out. The mutated and warped effect looks great when painted. I'm debating warping all of the big armor plates on all of my chaos marines except the Zerkers. I'm gonna start painting my Raptors squad next. I've done some GS work in an attempt to have the warped styled armor like the DP. The GS should be dry enough to start working on him tomorrow afternoon.

That warped armor is fantastic. A whole squad will probably look pretty sweet.

Good trick with that skull head. By amazing coincidence, I just put the same head on a 'zerker I put together from my grab bag today, and I might just have to steal that effect.

Thanks for the comments.

Update for tonight! Here is the progress on the Raptor with the first two washes and highlights of the bronze armor. I've added some of the red and steel colors for a little contrast. I am quite happy with how the warped effect turned out.

bob123, I'll try doing a guide when I do the rest of the Raptors.

Ok, here is more progress on the raptor. I think I'll have to lighten the shade of the armor a little from what I did with the DP. It looks a little to dark on a smaller miniature.

I've been messin with this Champion and I think with a little more streaking this might be the better shade of bronze for the standard sized models.

I'd really appreciate some feedback on the two shades of bronze. Which one do you like and why?

Thanks,

Jim

P.S. Also remember they are both WIP minis.

First of all :( :thanks: :thanks:

Well pic 1 looks more like bronze but pic 2 looks way more awesome because of the shades and the brightness.

personally I would go for number 2

Thanks for the comments!

Funny thing is both armors are the same Bronze paint, just with a different amount of greenbrown washes. It's really odd what hue we perceive as the color bronze.

Bachelorette number 2 has a much more vivid bronze, which is IMHO a necessity on 28mm figs - I guess the Raptor would look rather dark from a tabletop view, even though his bronze looks more like "proper" bronze to me.

Ok, I've been working on my problem with the armor, I've decided to up the patina corrosion level in the armor. This is the green hue that bronze turns as it ages. Here is an ancient Greek helmet as an example.

At one point last night the armor was almost that same color, but I've toned it down.

Here is where I am at.

What do you think?

Great work! Looks absolutely stunning.

You might try to add a slightly more blue-ish tone to the green bronze patina to counteract with the vivid red.

It's still authentic as some bronzes, depending on the copper content, turn rather blue- almost turquoise- instead of green.

At the same time it will 'lighten' you're figure somewhat, which is what you're looking for I gather?

As you know green is one of the few colours that can be 'worked' cold or warm. Blue is a cold colour and will enhance the red even more.

Update time! The Raptor is finished, I think I've worked out my lighting issues for my pics too!

All in all I am pretty darn happy with the way he turned out in the end. All that's left to be done is the custom flight base, then he'll be complete!

Thanks for lookin',

Jim

Thanks for the compliment SK!

Small update,

I got the other 7 Raptors cleaned up and mounted to their temp bases for painting; they've been primed and are ready to go.

I love Terminators and they are a great Elite choice in the new Chaos codex. The new Terminators are great looking and lord knows I'll get some. They are big and have the option for dynamic poses.

I already have 25 of the old Terminators and don't want to just scrap them. So I thought to myself how do I update these models to make em at least a little comparable to the new minis.

At first I thought about cuttin' them up and makin' them bigger that way, but I decided that would be way too much work.

I decided to widen them out a little at the shoulders to help reinforce their size and I added some plasticard strip to the bottom of the feet to gain some height. The termies head is now at the same level with a PA CSM.

Here are a couple of quick shots I took, sorry I just primed him so he's a little dark.

I didn't get much painting done this weekend, I was busy playin' a few games and modeling some tanks for this army. I'll get pics up of the Tanks when they are presentable.

Here is about two hours of work on the terminator.

The bronze armor goes fast now that I've found my groove with it.
