'Soul Reapers' Chaos Marines

Ok, time to stop beating around the bush and kick this Pig of a log into high gear!

 

I need to have two troops choices to build any army so in addition to working on my Zerkers here is the first 10 man squad of CSM's. There not done but well on their way.

As you've all seen my Prince dosen't have wings so he'll need a buddy to back him up.

The sorcerer will have wings as soon as I can get my hands on a box of the new possessed.

 

I'm slowly pluggin away at converting the other 3 Terminators to go with the first one.

 

I'm holding back pictures of the Raptors until they are more complete.

My Air conditioning unit is broke, so no painting today it's just too darned hot. So I worked on this.

This was going to be a second Vindy for my Space Wolves. I got it second hand from a friend who no longer plays 40K it was already built, and he's not much of a modeler. I needed to take off a ton of mold lines on the metal parts, which is why it's been sitting.

 

I'm pretty stoked that Chaos can now use the Vindicator and couldn't be bothered to wait for the new model when I had this beast sittin' here.

Hey have just read this thread through for the first time. Great work! I have the start of my Chaos army in the new army deal and 20 ancient plague marines converted to IW (badly )

 

Thing is I am trying to build a Chaos army but reading most excellent threads like this makes me aspire to get all of it this good. ( I did say Aspire)

black. boltgun drybrush, some yellow black chevrons

 

get them into battle

 

but i still wanna do the best paint job i can on every model, even if it takes for ever.

I've kind of had a painting block for the last few days so I've been focusing on getting stuff built. I currently working on bunches of stuff including my second squad of Chaos marines.

 

In the second squad each model will have a conversion of some sort. Plus I've built 4 bikes, working on two Rhinos and making a Preheresy Dread out of an old RT dread. I know the dread is a gamble and most people hate 'em but I think you'll be surprised. I'm taking pics of him as I go and will put them all up when he is finished.

Here is the first member of the second squad, converted and ready to be primed. I decided to give a nod to the days of Rogue Trader by adding the combat accessory to the bolter; I may do a few more in the squad.

I finally got my camera back, so here is a quick update.

 

I've been working on the conversions for the 2nd squad. I've got 7 done, I'm currently working on the Champ. I have given him a PFist and a quasi Mk IV chest plate.

Now here's the problem What should I do for the right arm?

a) hanging strait down at his side holding his bolter

b ) have a bent arm pointing down at a 45 degree angle

c) have the arm cross body like he's prepared to shoot in the direction he is lookin'

Here is the first set of WIP pics for the Vindicator. I have done the base coat of Bronze and a wash of the dark green.

I'm going to be making the hatch copula and side armored plates Red. The whole gun and mount will be a burnished steel as will all of the vents on the tank. The exhaust pipes and tracks will be rusted steel.

 

Any comments and suggestions will be welcomed.

The Champion is done. I tried all of the arm positions and this is the one that looks best. IMO

Tomorrow I'm gonna start to paint the first 8 minis of the second squad. The first squad that I posted will get finished and then become a reserve squad for large games.

 

I like the more modified 2nd squad and will make this style the norm for the army.

 

I'm off from work tomorrow and I've got a comp day next week so will be off three days. So the plan is to complete both squads and the Vindi by next weekend.

Thanks for the comments! Lord Rag, the base will be a standard sand and grass, so nothing too fancy for the grunts.

Looking good! The colour scheme is perfect, very nice balance between dull bronze and bright red. :teehee:

 

I'm not convinced about the position of the pupils yet, they give the champion sort of a weedy desperate look ("Oh no, look over there, we're surrounded by Ratlings!"). Aiming them downwards would probably make him look a lot more manic.

varthrok here is the flesh formula I used on the DP.

 

The flesh started off as an old RalPartha paint color East Indian which is unfortunately OOP. This was washed with burnt umber to give it depth. The original color was mixed with the Vallejo version of GW rotting flesh for the highlights. There are probably 6 or 8 highlights each with more rotting flesh added to the mix.

 

GW graveyard earth is a good match for the old RP paint.
