Vehicle Conversions and the men who love 'em

Recommended Posts

So what have been your most radical or even obvious conversions? I'm always kind of disappointed when I see a really nice army with straight from the box, bog standard tanks. Guys who spend hours converting "Marine with Bolter #4" but don't spend the same effort on their Predator really confuse me.

I'll post additional pics as I get better with the camera. :P

So what do your tanks look like?

Attaching those Wurfrahmen to a Rhino is a cool idea — I might steal that if I ever decide to add a Whirlwind to my army …

Here's some photos of my conversions:

Yes, this looks like an IG tank, but it's actually for my Lost & Damned army, so I suppose that makes it legal for this forum :teehee:

Well, I guess that my Mk. I Pre-Great Crusade era Land Raider would count. ^^ (using an 1/35 scale brittish mark 4 tank as basis)

My other Land Raider will be pretty basic.

My rhino(s) will all be upgraded to Mk. IIIa Mars Pattern. (pretty easy to say since it's all in bitz)

My tanks don'y look as good as yours, that's for sure ;)

On one of my rhino's i have the driver popping out of top hatch to say

'hello' to some orks.... with a bolter! But the rest remain unconverted :teehee:

I think its called a Nebelwerfer. Wirbelvind is the AA gun mounted on a half track.

I'm liking the vindicator! Front of the traks seem a little exposed for such an up close and in your face tank, but no matter.

:ot: It's not a nebelwerfer, nebelwerfers are 6-barrel rocket launchers (artillery kind) on a field-gun like chassis.

THAT MAUS IS PINK!!!!

That's just so it fits the rest of the army …

No, they're Wurfrahmen (a more or less literal translation would be something like "Launch Frames"), which held, off the top of my head, 28- or 32-cm rockets. They were either set up on the ground or attached in sets of three to the sides of Sd.Kfz. 251 halftracks — which is probably where those on Brother_Dan'l's vehicle came from: a Tamiya 1/35th scale kit of such an Sd.Kfz. 251.

The Nebelwerfer used 12-cm rockets IIRC, and came as a six-shot weapon on a two-wheeled carriage or a ten-shot weapon on the back of an armoured Maultier halftrack. Both launchers could be used to convert 40K vehicles, I think, but might look a little small to represent a Whirlwind. You could call it a rack of hunter-killer missiles, though.

Gurth is dead on. The 251 hull got turned into a Griffon for my IG. I used the old EPIC Deathstrike Missiles in place of the giant bottle rockets that came in the kit. A little trimming, a little greenstuff and in they went.

So come on folks, who else has conversions they want the world to see?

my SW Rhinos and Preditors. Also my World eaters (pre hersy) MMecahnicu s Robot (counts as a defiler)

What's that stuff on the hull?

Model putty. It's supposed to represent Zimmerit, since the tank is converted to look as much like a WWII Panzer IV as you can make a Leman Russ look like that :D

And is it still WIP?

It is inasfar as it still hasn't been painted, about a year after I finished the conversion :P

The tracks don't look like they're supported by anything yet.

What do you mean, "yet"? :P The tracks look exactly like I want them to — as close to Panzer IV tracks as I could get them. That's to say, the entire running gear is from an Italeri Panzer IV kit (minus two road wheels and a return roller each side) while the tracks are separate-link Panzer III or IV tracks by Dragon.

@Beef: I like your Challenger 2s, but IMHO modern MBTs are too big and sleek to use as 40K tanks — else I'd have several of them as well :)

Wow! That's one hell of an Excorcist Missile Launcher! You could take someone's eye out with that!
