Lorgrin
Took me quite some time to find a way to get this game running, but finally found something that does it. So here it is for all of you, might es well work for Final Liberation: Uninstall Re-install but ensure destination directory is eight characters or less. I used (c:\chaos) Set Desktop resolution to 640x480, 16 Bit colour Via Start/Run use gpedit.msc to enable "run in seperate memory space" check box to run dialog box. Located under User Configuration, Administrative templates, Start menu and Taskbar Then goto Start/Run and type "command.com /c C:\chaos\WH40K.exe" without the quotation. The game will now load and no longer crashes Do not use the compatibility tool, always use the command line option. Even though the compatibility tool enables the ability to load the game through windows it will crash very early in to the game. It wasnt me who figured it out, but was very hard to find...hope it helps a bit Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/114401-wh40k-chaos-gate-under-win-xp/ Share on other sites
Allerka
Interesting. I've NEVER seen the compatibility tool work for anything. It's been a complete waste of code in my experience. Wonder if it'll work in Vista, too... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/114401-wh40k-chaos-gate-under-win-xp/#findComment-1316438 Share on other sites
StratoKhan
Compatibility tool is a funny one. It works rarely for me. Thanks Lorgrin, that's a good find. Lord Ragnarok
Thanks Lorgrin! I had found that a few years ago and lost the link. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/114401-wh40k-chaos-gate-under-win-xp/#findComment-1316761 Share on other sites

Skyhawk
The main problem that I had with CG was that it crashed whenever the cultist laspistol sound played. Any idea about that ? (I will test what you posted in a lil' while) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/114401-wh40k-chaos-gate-under-win-xp/#findComment-1344768 Share on other sites
Brother Aiwass
Don't work for me, I've tried all methods, yours instead and always do the same, black screen/exit to windows. W/ your method is mainly the same: a black DOS window appears but nothing. Octavulg
The cultist laspistol sound is misnamed, but I can't remember as what. You apparently need to rename it, but, again, I can't remember as what. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/114401-wh40k-chaos-gate-under-win-xp/#findComment-2356019 Share on other sites
The Officer
The Chaos cultist bug is solved here You can find that link in the Wikipedia article for the game, in case you forget. Techmarine Harkus
I find the easiest way to get CG working full stop is through Virtual Machine. Although it's fair to say Virtial Machine isn't the easiest thing to get working to someone non-tech savy, having 95 or 98 running solves more or less all the issues I've experience with CG when trying to get it to work on XP. Pretty much any machine capable of running XP should be able to run a VM with 98 on, if its just to play GC. Last time I played, my save files became corupt. I don't know if this is a common occurence, but I'd say it's best to back them up all the same.
