Vaaish's Progress Thread

Well I've painted enough tyranid and terrain chinks to feel comfortable with starting in on my marines without screwing them up badly so here is the test mini of my color scheme. I think I might switch around the metals a bit more on the arms and belt and add a chunk of green to the center of the backpack behind the skull. Comments and crits are welcome. Next up is the missile trooper. Sorry about the slightly blurry un-color corrected pics... it's late and I couldn't bother with actually dragging out the tripod. the main body is kommand0 khaki even though the pic makes it look more bleached bone

Thanks ya'll. the more I've been checking it over I'm thinking the eyes are too dark. I think I swap out the UM blue base and start with straight ice. Any suggestions on a good bright blue?

The difference between khaki and bleached bone is pretty slim but since their homeworld is mostly desert the khaki works a bit better than bone, and it means that I can do edging in bone with highlights in white.

I'm also thinking about making a mold for their chapter insignia because I like the sculpted shoulder pads and free hand on all of them is tough.

Ok I'm back from a little vacation and I've started piecing together my chapter master. I think I have the pse mostly down and the start of the conversion with the crux terminatus inset in the center of his chest. next up, GS the rest of the ornateness for the artificer armor and start fitting him together.

Thanks! I'm hoping to get them mostly finished up this evening and yes all the holes on that flamer are drilled except for one on the other side that I screwed up next to it by drilling too large.

Got these guys done tonight, just have to varnish them. unfortunately it appears my light setup killed the variations and highlights. oh well. on to more marines. trying to get a full squad out and move on to my land speeders.

The paint scheme is great! Its awesome that you took into account their surroundings, I've known a lot of painters who don't do that <cough, me>. I like the use of the khaki, it does allow for a good highlight scheme, I use it myself. With the base: did you paint it or just leave it as you found it outside?

Four more of the macragge set down, only 2 to go before I finish and move onto the normal detail marines and heavy weapons! I'm pretty happy with hte freehand on hte chapter symbols on this group, though I've started to get lax on my blending. 40 marines are a lot to paint so I guess I'm cutting corners.

Figured out the proper settings to get camera raw to save in a format that photoshop accepts tonight, cleaned and basecoated the sgt, another 2 bolter troops and the lascannon trooper. test posed the plasma guy posted here.

It's just sticky tack. I still have to clean, base coat, and paint him before I permanently assemble. I think I'd just give up GS altogether if thats how it turned out when i used it

@ladykat: I missed your post up there, but to answer your question, I do paint the gravel on the bases after it's glued on.

after many days without updates, I present 4 more marines and varras. A friend of my did varras as a skin test and I did the sgt as the first attempts at painting flesh.

I'm hoping to finish up the backpacks for the sgt and last bolter marine finally finishing out the marine end of the maccragge set.

finished: I'm pretty happy with the lascannon and the freehand for his chapter symbol despite being a bit off proportionally.

This leaves only the plasma gunner for the first squad to be complete, but since I already did a missile marine for the dev squad to finish up the maccragge set I think I'll move on to the land speeder next. I really need to work on my photo setup. I keep killing the highlights.

well I've started in on my first land speeder. Nothing is glued together yet pending finishing up the interior of the thing. but I went ahead and got the bottom finished up awaiting the final placement of the assault cannon.

Most of the upper hull will be khaki with the indentions and "flaps" being dark flesh and the weapon housings green.
