BT Command battle building, Tank

Well I had the guts to strip down this roughly built Battle tank I made years ago on the hope I could now do better.

The stuff lying around it was on the top, but looked to Orkish for SM to have built.

I've been pondering over the idea for some time of having some sort of gigantic tank, that not only has so many guns on it thats its a army by itself, but also has a building on the back of it with a massive cannon sticking out the front of it.

Now these pics are at a point where I have so much to do to it, but got the basic structure built. So now time for immense detail work.

This part, level 1 contains the engine to the back, bigger than a normal one. Of course the engine room is imaginary as containd within the LR.

The front section houses the ammo, for the uber battle cannon, the vindicator cannon and the rest of the small arms on board. Again imaginary.

The main cannon is made from Battle cannon from the FW Thunderhawk, an old Rhino, lasscannons, part of a receipt roll and some plastic hobby piping.

The inside as you can see the parts, this was made a while back, part of another model that fell and exploded into a few hundred pieces so b*lls to putting that back together.

The building part is made from the Cities of Death box set stuff. In this section(level 2) will be troop and light ammo room. This section comes away from the LR(level 1) so will have interior, benches, control panels etc, etc.

looks a little big for the LR, could say the scales way off, but it looks better once you see everything on there.

Level 3, this part houses the command "office" you could say, so will have plenty of little controls/display screens and alike. Towards the front of Level 3 will be a obversation deck sticking out just over the main gun. This brings the building back towards the front a little. Not seen here as waiting to later in the project to stick it on.

This part also comes away form Lev 2, so a good veiw of the "office" can be seen. Depending on how I am able to fit the controls. I plan to add some sort of gun battery on the top as well, but I'll see how it turns out.

Here I have added balconies to both sides on Lev 2. Also I balanced the Uber cannon so you can get a impression of what it will look like.

The front of the of this vehicle I felt was a little thin for the size of it, also from the recoil of the main gun firing, which will rotate. So I added some extra width, this part is still under construction and had to fit it just right as have 2 heavy bolter sponsons just above the extra tracks.

This happend while carving out the doors to the building parts, not only did the blade beark into 3 pieces but the mid part flew right into my friggin eye...OUCH!

Yeah Apocalypse battles should be good with this tank. Altough it will attract a lot of attention if allowed to use, it will but time for my other units to move up pretty much left alone. To destroy it maybe have it having to take 3-4 penertrating hits to take it down. If thats possible.

Once I finish the tank structure, it will have Gothic/BT decorations on it.

wow...very cool! But...please tell me youre repainting it, the exterior just doesnt look quite right

God, yes.. It was roughly painted before and I lost intrest in the model, so I didnt ever complete painting it. Now with funds a bit tight at the moment I thought I would restore it and make it a little better out of the spare parts I have.

Only problem is do I paint the building part a "stone/concrete/greyish" colour leaving the tank itself black, or do I go black as in keeping with BT armour, with highlights and bare metal and gold parts.

OOOhhh! just had a thought half hour ago, I could hook this tank up with some LED, I still have access to the underneath of the middle section where I could stick the battery pack some simple drill work and fixing of lights and hey presto....they have the light of the Emperor...or just low powered tiny lights.

Yeah what the hell, a conversion build this big deserves it.

AAhhh balls, only problem is I would have to fit 2 breaks in the wire, as the 2 building sections are being modeled to come away from the tank itself. Does anyone know it that is possible to fit plugs/sockets with LED's as dont really know much about that.

I am no great licks with electronics but you should try looking through here, I use something like them for charging my RC airplanes battery's at the field (I'm not sure which ones I used I built my field box 10+ years ago. They can take a pretty large amount of electricty in comparison to what is needed to run an lcd.

Connectors

By the by the model looks awesome, and if you are thinking about playing Appoc, they have a data sheet up for an Imperial defense laser on GWs site, reminds me of your tank.

I have a few pics of the progress so far with the command deck control room. I thought I would fit this deck 1st before the loer one to make sure I got enough screens, button and alike for this room. I have included SM for scale.

And with the walls added.

Ignore the tube, its holding the main comm station up, which will be more upright once fixed to the floor still keeping the hatch clear from access to lower deck.

Recent update on me tank. Some shots of the progress. I added some more control pannels and the front balcony and the front wall to the lower deck. Oh and the very front have changed it for a new Rhino front.

  • 1 year later...

The project was abandoned, I currently have lost my intrest in 40k and modelling. Also the front was a complete mess. I still have the main section and was intending to use a 2nd LR for the front, and the big gun and been stripped down and no loger exsists. But as said havent done anything 40k wise since my LR-Vanquisher I made with baneblade tracks.

But thanks for your intrest guys/gals.

Plus a massive drain on resources.
