The Legion of Taurus - a Chaos Marine army log

THank you all for your kind comments!

My favorite model is probably the Terminator Lord. Though the basic Tauran troops are always characterful! :)

Yeah, he was a nightmare to paint, but I'm very happy with how he turned out. I have an idea to revisit him and do a new version of this model, but with a shield. We'll see whether I actually get the inspiration and motivation to see it through!

The Brotherhood of All-Sight is probably my favorite part.

Thanks, for my first attempt at painting Robes I'm quite pleased with them :)

I am still amazed that the old metal spawn holds up next to the new (and fantastic) sculpts.

Yeah, it's a lovely model! ;) Hopefully they'll make Spawn more useful in the next Chaos Codex - I would seriously consider getting more, because they're so much fun to make and paint.

Very nice army photos!

Glad to hear you'll be making more too!

Yes, not so much making more, as painting the 60-odd other miniatures I've made for this army, ha! :HQ:

I just became aware of your army. Awesome Models all of them.

Thank you Quixus! :)

One question about the Terminator Lord, where is the Sword from?
Some sort of Bloodletter sword by the looks of it.

Zincite's got it, it's from one of the Plastic Bloodletters.

Hello all, back after a break, but I'm afraid I've no new minis to show off, due to having recently moved, my stuff being in various boxes int he garage, and having other stuff take up my time :( Rather, this post is to share some news and set out my plans for the coming year.

Firstly, I attended a local 40k Doubles Tournament at the weekend, and I'm pleased to say that the Legion of Taurus were voted the best painted army!

I was upagainst some tough competition, including Matt 'GreatCrusade08' Evans' Ultramarine Scouts, some nice Blood Angels (including a wicked Mephiston conversion), and this nicely painted Ork army - you've got to give the owner credit for having the commitment to paint over 80 infantry models!

Secondly, I have been thinking about what kind of army I want to field, and I've decided to use Chosen more than normal Chaos Marines - I'd also like to field some Terminators as a retinue for my Lord; as well as that, I want to get some Raptors painted so that I can get pictures of them to put in my long gestating Codex: Legion of Taurus.

To that end, by the end of the year I aim to have the following finished:

- 3 Terminators

- 7 Special Weapon Chaos Marines (for my Chosen Squads)

- 11 Raptors

- and a Land Raider (not pictured, as it's still out in the garage with a load of other stuff since the move!)

It's not a big target, but one that I fell is achievable given that there are other things I want to do hobby-wise this year.

I'll be able to get stuck in to painting these next month, when I do I'll post pics, but till then thanks for looking!

a well deserved win for best army, i have no problems coming second to a better painted army :)

good luck with the new units, sounds as though your mixing up your army lists a bit, never a bad thing when you play chaos

I just saw this in your sig and I said to myself "Hmm, well I've heard about it, let's check it out."

So here I am twenty pages later. Not even the smilies can help describe this so let me use this analogy, if I was Gabriel Iglesias, you would be the god of tacos. Great fluff, great mini and I definitely agree with nabbing someone from BL and making them write a book. I'm torn between A-D-B, Anthony Reynolds, and Dan Abnett on that though.

EDIT: I love finding original ideas like this too. I'm torn between the VIII and the XVII Legions but I think I just became a fanboy of the Legion of Taurus.

Well, thank you very much Kol Saresk! :D

It's very flattering when someone tells me they gone to the trouble to read through all 20 pages of this thread (which reminds me, I've got to get round to doing an index on the first page!). I'm glad you liked it!

To be honest, in the fantasy scenario that the BL did decide to write a novel featuring the Legion of Taurus, I think I'd only trust Dan Abnett or Graham McNiell. I think ADB will probably have had enough of Chaos Marines now he's finished the Night Lords trilogy! In an ideal world, I wouldn't mind having a go myself... ;)

Anyway, in Model Making & Painting news, I should be able to prime some Raptors tomorrow, weather permitting!

  • 2 weeks later...

Time for one of my intermittent updates! :P

Well, I've started batch painting the Raptors. I base coated all of them last Friday, and started highlighting the brass/bronze effects today - I've done 6 so far, once I start the washes Ill end up re-touching the highlights anyway, I usually do...

Anyway, base-coated Raptors:

Highlighting in progress:

Also, I recently attended an event at Warhammer World, and took the opportunity to get a few pics for my still-in-progress Codex: Legion of Taurus. After some photo-shoppery :D this is going to be the cover:

I'll get carry on chipping away at the Raptors and will post more pics when I've got somewhere with them. Till then, thanks for looking! ;)

Man... you have no idea how much i dislike you right now... how can you paint that well?! ;D Heheh

Having seen you're army once before in action, I am very jealous. On a serious note how do you get in the mood for painting? Once I get started I go and don't stop, but I justc can't find the motivation. Its hell for these grey minis i have lying around... I can hear them screaming...

Thanks for your kind comments! ;)

thats a great cover pic, one of your chaps however got carried away and is trying to lop off an exhaust vent on his mates backpack.

Bah! Trust you to notice that! I'll see if I can photoshop it at a later date...

Thanks - I'm not a great painter, I've just had 12 1/2 years of practice, and I have to take my time to get decent results... ;)

Because of this I do often find the right mood to paint - normally, I find making & converting miniatures a lot more immediate and rewarding than painting (because most often times it is!). At the moment I'm the other way, I'm very much wanting to paint rather than build miniatures. I think that's because, although I have loads to paint, rather than get myself down thinking 'I've got 60+++ miniatures to paint to get this army finished!!!' :) instead I've set myself a much smaller and therefore more achievable goal. I want to get these Raptors finished so I can use them in a picture I want to put in the 'Codex', so it is giving me the motivation and inspiration to get on with them.

So, I guess my advice would be to set your sights lower, concentrate on a unit or half a unit at a time - don't set unrealistic deadlines either. This is the first time I've been painting stuff for this army without the deadline of a tournament or on-line comeptition hanging over me, and so far progress seems a lot quicker than normal!

Remember my planned painting schedule for this year?

Well, I think I'm going to have to revise it slightly - look what arrived in the post today!

I'll clean and prep the model tomorrow night, get it assembled by the weekend.

More pics soon! :D
