Iron Snakes

are you going to put apothecaries in every squad, or just in the command squads? in the book, i sort of got the impression that they were a part of about every squad, even if you don't use the trait, i almost think they should be modeled.

also, you need a bad brother captain to go with them. the librarian fits as well, but you need one of the 'hero captains' or however abnett put it to go with them on the shelf, if not on the table.

but very good looking bunch of guys. the colors are a little different from what i've seen before but i certainly don't hate the choices you've made.

Update time again. I managed to sue my last day before returning to work after some xmas time off to knock out the better part of the 2nd veteran squad. the squad's apothecary is still outstanding but until then, Notable Parthus is done:

Note: I noticed after I took the photos that I'd forgotten to paint the white dot in the top of the eye/lenses. This has now been done.

So now, al that's outstanding in the standard 1500 point army is the librarian and 2 apothecaries. All 3 are undercoated and I intend to start the apothecaries tomorrow after work.

thanks

Brothers of the snake is one of my favorite BL books ever and i think your army does them justice. I want to know if you have any plans of adding bits to represent the Bullwyrms like the cloak the chapter master is said to be wearing in the book. I always thought nid bits would make good on that.

one word: (for you watcers of futurama, the word is not thundercougarfalconbird)

Inspiring

truely...i feel uplifted when i look at these - they're nicely executed and some of those conversions made me smile in a very evil way indeed!

by the way, i think making the logo black makes it look better than when its blue :D wise move

oh, i forgot: may i borrow that awesome pike-wielding marines conversion - i love them ;)

Cheers,

Nicely painted Iron Snakes you got there, one thing though shouldn't the Chapter symbol and squad symbol / name / markings be blue rather than black?

Canonically (is that a word?) yes, the snake symbol should be blue, but I didn't think it really worked with the palette I'd been using for the rest of the marine so I took some artistic license and kept it black.

I was planning on adding wrym scale cloaks and carapace parts etc to some of the higher ups in the army (chaplain, librarian and master still to come along with some more vets who will porbably sport some). I was planning on sculpting them from scratch though. I was worreid that 'nid parts would look too much like...well, nids!

oh, i forgot: may i borrow that awesome pike-wielding marines conversion

borrow away, I look forward to seeing some pics of them :P

okay, update time:

The Doctors are in

or

Take Two of These and Call me in the Morning

I couldn't decide on the title of the post so have instead opted for both :Elite:

I finished up my apothecaries today. I'm not all that pleased with how they turned out (and am eternaly grateful I chose a metalic coloured marine army rather than a white one (!)) but they fit in well enough with the other moels.

Pis aren't great as I knocked over one of my daylight lamps and blew the bulb (incidentally, does anyone know a UK suplier of daylight/craft/UV filtered halogen bulbs?) so I had to put a regular yellow bulb in to replace it. I wanted to get a pic of the docs with their respective squads but alas, my lighting woes had the pics tun out pretty dismally.

I kept the apothecary symbol black on the shoudler pad rather than the traditional red to tie them in more with the rest of the army.

before the apothicaries my mind said "Wow, Corai Rocks. i should favourite his topic"

now, after looking at the 'Caries my mind says :

"Stop worshipping Khorne and Worship Corai instead! he may bless you with his powers if you serve him!"

so thats what my brain says <_< and not juch ever comes out of there i can tell you ;)

the white actually turned out quite well, i think. if you experience problems with white in the future, i am told basecoating in astronomican grey (a new foundie paint) and gradually building up to white over 3 or 4 stages is supposed to be good - although i have yet to try this myself ;)

Cheers,

That's actually pretty much what I did ;). I started with an undercoat of black, basecoated it in astronomicon grey, washed it in space wolf grey then built up the white, finishing with a glaze of white. Glad to hear it doesn't look too bad.

I must say after painting just 2 white marines, I have even more respect for those great painters like Spikeyjames who do whole armies of them!

Thanks

Hi ;)

@BrotherAtrox - i wasn't complaining, i was helping Corai 'cause he let me borrow the idea for the spear of death :P

@Corai - my current army is near white, i used a schockingly similar formula to yours:

Corai - "I staretd with an udnercoa tof black, basecoated it in astronomicon grey, washed it in space wolf grey then built up the white, finishing with a glaze of white. Glad to hear it doesn't look too bad."

Best of luck with the rest of the army, ill be sure to keep an eye on this topic now :P

Cheers,

just a quick Painting update:

The librarian's face, armour and robes are now painted. Still to do are the shoulder pad rims, the purity seals, the gold edging/chest eagle, the large book, the force sword and the base (takes about an hour incuding drying time just to do the bases on these guys!)

For the force sword, I was planning on painting it in the same style as my power weapons but am not sure if it should be distinguished in some way (particularly as the libby is painted in primarily blue and white already). I'm thinking of either doing the blue fade as normal but having white runes running down the centre of the blade instead of lightning, or doing the fade and lightning effect but in a differant colour. Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.

thanks

sorry for the double post but this is a big moment for me

Well it's 2.39 in the morning here and I have work at 8.30. However, I have finished the librarian and can finally say, after over 10 years in the hobby, and over 6 previous attempts I have now painted a full 1500 point space marine army!.

I went for the techno-runes on the force sword in the end. Not sure I'm 100% happy with it but it looks suitably differant from the pwoer weapons in the army whilst still keeping to the limited palette. No pics tonight (due to the aforementioned work in less than 6 hours) but I will get one up tomorrow afterwork, and with a bit of luck, wil get a full army pic at the club tomorrow night afterall

Thanks

Corai

Time for an update then

Here's the libby as he currently is. I expect I'll go back and rework the sword some in the future, and there are a couple of litle touches that need a bit of work (that painting at 2 in the monring really starts to tell) but this is as finished as he's getting for the time being:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/lib3.jpg

And, whilst I think of the models I have painted (for this and other armies) I don't really see Daedalus the Codicier as perhaps deserving of my first foray into photoshopped backgrounds, I knocked this up. I should have used the pen tool to cut out the model but got lazy as I was only messing around and relied on the magic wand instead. It was really just a test to see if I could do it

And as requested, some group shots on one ofour club's more 'neon' boards :P

Tommorow I start work on building the termies and dreadnoughts.

Thanks

Amazing. One of my favorite armies here on the boards. Hoping we see an Dreadnought soon.

The dread and termis are now glued and ready for some paint, I'm just trying to decide which to attack with my brush first!

thanks

Corai
