Iron Snakes

Man I love the Plastic terminator models. They fit so well on the abse, with just enough space to really do something with the spare space, and unlike the regular 'gorilla-armed-marines' they proportions are pretty good. If it weren't for the fact that Skypio is the only squad in the chapter that has access to Terminator armour, I'd be painting up a few more squads of these boys. So without further gilding the Lilly, and with no more ado, Notable Skypio:

The pointing powerfist comes from the assault marines sprue, and is a throwback to the first tacs squads I did for the army (complete with mirrored pointing powerfist sergeants)

This guy is probably my favourite pose. The legs are from the DA vet sprue and I just love the non-chalantless of it

Captain Medes, commander of Skypio made from the FW commander Culn model. I think there were some miscast lines ion the face so tried to paint them up as scars instead. Faces (at least human ones) are definatley not my strong suit so I'l let you decide whether it workd or not.

Thanks guys :P

Would you be willing to share your recipe for your Gold?

The gold is:

-basecoat bestial brown

-P3 Brass Balls leaving some bestial brown in the recesses. On an espescialy texturedarea this can be drybrushed on and cleaned up afterwords eith more careful brush strokes

-Highlight P3 Brass Balls:P3 Radiant Platinum 1:1

-Extreme highlight (I only really do this stage on characters) with P3 Radiant Platinum

-Wash with Chestnut Ink

Noticed you are from Leeds aswell, same here ;)

Do you play in the store, or the Nightowls club at all?

Update time again! I debated whethre to paint the weapon arms up in white to mimic the shoulderpads of the marines, but decided against it in the end as the pads are armour trim, whilst the dreads weapons are part of the armour proper. I messed up witht he lettering on the nameplate at the top, and intend to repaint it and re letter it next time I get the paints out.

Dread looks good mate, are the eagles on the legs those brass eagles you can buy these days?

But alas I have not played a game of 40k for quite a while now. Im currently building up and will eventually paint my new marines army (might put the latest guys in Wip soon)

thanks :) The eagles are brass etch ones, but not from one of the Forge World frames. They're fromthe brass etch frame you get with the new 40K basing kit (several copies of which I have bought to base the army so far)

  • 2 weeks later...

Check out the (still unnamed) Epistolery acting as tactical advisor to Captain Medes during his participation inthe Taros campaign. Finally finished the blighter, and boy did all that detailing take up more time than I'm used to!

And with Medes and his command squad:

I'm hoping to ramp up my productivity a bit this week and knock out the two speeder and the venerable dreadnought waiting for paint

The snow is baking/bicarbonate of soda, PVA glue, skull white and a dash of ice blue

Damn! I was hoping it would be easy.

It's not really that difficult, it sounds a lot more complicated than it is:

-take a container (I use the cap of a spray paint can)

-squeeze PVA glue into the bottom (a circel about 3-4cm in diameter should be sufficient for a squad)

-pour the soda over the PVA until it is completely covered, but not buried in it (bicarbonate or baking being the differing names of the soda depending on what side of the altantic you're on)

-mix until you have a (disturbingly tasy looking) paste

-add a brush load of skullwhite and a tiny dot of ice blue to the paste.

-mix again

-spread it onto the model using something like an old sculpting tool

-sprinkles some more soda over the snow on the base

-blow off the excess

Thanks

Sounds like a quick trip to the hospital. :D

Would it be ok to spread this on just a flat base? The terrain board I'm working on is supposed to be a snowy field with some intermittent trees. Maybe I could find some shrub-looking-bits to add...

Should be okay. I've used the recipe to make fully snow covered abses before but they were on non powerarmoured non GW models so I can't post any pics here

Today I finished of the landspeeders and the Venrable dreadnought that I started yesterday.

I decided to keep the buildings on the base fairly neutral in the end. I wanted them to fit with the existing basing scheme without standing out too much (they're only window dressing for the speeders afterall). I used a variation ont he recipe used on my HORDES Circle Orboros stone constructs:

-basecoat astronomicon grey

-wash with chaos black:water:glaze medium 1:8:4

-drybrush with codex grey

-drybrush with codex grey:bleached bone 1:1

Some of the rivits were then picked out with a bit of chestnut ink

And Acient Autolochus came to the party. In the book he's equipped with a lascannon and ccw but I took a little artisitc license to whack on the pretty venerable dread mini's assault cannon arm.

All I have to finish now for the tourney date (17th February) is 5 terminators I have bought but have yet to assemble and the esienhorn which will form the centre of my turn counter. (Okay the last one's not esential I just really want to paint the eisenhorn mini)

Might skip the gaming club tomorrow to get the termis assemled (I'm planning to heavily convert the 'sergeant' to be carrying the armiy's one and only power-sea-lance) so might have another update then.

Thanks

Corai
