PLASTICHEAD
Gees! what can I say except that you have definately inspired me to pick up my hobby where I left it years ago Corai, - in the addict. I just came home from a little field-trip to the local store, and I am now the happy owner of a spanking new Space Marine Megaforce, and "Brothers of the Snake" - by Dan Abnett. (Not to forget to mention 1 pack of Warhammer 40.000 Basing Kit and clippers, knives, paints and brushes and ect... Time to go to buisness :-P Thanx for an ultra cool (and inspiring) army Cheers Bro Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/126416-iron-snakes/page/5/#findComment-1507931 Share on other sites
corai
wow, it seems like I've been painting these drop pods forever. Thankfully I've finally got them finished (and just in time for this weekends Yorkshire Open Tournament). I also got the interiros of the 2 other opening pods painted. the non-command pod has had marines painted and glued inside, but as the command pod is going to be transporting termis I've left the interior empty. Here's the pod I finished of today: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/droppod19.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/droppod18.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/droppod17.jpg Now the only outstanding models to be painted for the army are the Eisenhorn inquisitor and Warhound Titan. As neither are in power armour (man have I had enough of painting that stuff for a long time!) I'm hoping to get these done in the next few months and put a cap on the Iron Snakes. But for now, I've got some WFB chaos models needed for a tourney at the end of the month... corai
Corai, i cant think of anything else to say but this; Youve got an absolutely amazzing looking army!!! Thanks :D I'm going to try and snap some pis of the interiors of the other 2 pods before the tourney (ie tomorrow night ;)) and get them poted. also, despite my lack of enthusiasm for painting anything power armoured in the near future (warhound titan notwithstanding) I'm thinking about sculpting/converting some termi models to fit in the drop pods in place of marines for my command pod thanks Corai Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/126416-iron-snakes/page/5/#findComment-1512278 Share on other sites
corai
Well the Yorksire Open Finals have been and gone. The drop pod army didn't perform fantastically (2 losses and a draw) but I had 3 great games agaisnt very pleasant opponents, and I on Best Army to boot, which was a very pleasant surprise as I was up agaisnt some very stiff competition (including a lovely snow themed guard amry and a couple of very stirking eldar forces). With 2 Best Army Wins for the snakes, maybe capping them here is a bit hasty, I feel as though they need rewarding in some way. Maybe it's time I finally painted them that titan... Titan Veritas
I'm not surprised you won Best Army at all. It's absolutely stunning. Keep up the good work. I'd also love to see some detailed shots of the interiors of those pods. I'd also love to see some detailed shots of the interiors of those pods. Thanks. I'm breaking out the photobox for some non-PAstuff tonight so I'll try and get some better interior shots. I may even see if I can get everything painted to fit on a bed and get an army shot of the Snakes Thanks Corai Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/126416-iron-snakes/page/5/#findComment-1516028 Share on other sites

corai
not a great photo, but as I'm taking a bit of a break from the Iron Snakes I thought I'd try and get a full army pic of what's painted: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/snakesarmy.jpg Thanks Corai Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/126416-iron-snakes/page/5/#findComment-1516639 Share on other sites
revmatt
Really like your army - i've wanted to do iron snakes for a while, but i'm content just to look at yours ;-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/126416-iron-snakes/page/5/#findComment-1519480 Share on other sites
Julgolax
I like your army but, I must say, I personally think that for all circumstances and purposes of accurasy to the established Iron Snakes color scheme, a simple coat of BG metal and a few washes of black ink with some chainmail highlight would have suited the scheme better than black. Also, the Snake icon is iron-blue, not completly black ;). I like the use of your reds, very well done. Same with the white areas, very clean! May I suggest that when doing the blue for Librarians, use a little bit of regal blue for a thin wash, to bring out the metallic aspect of the armor, Regal is very nice for washing blue armor for that realistic metal effect, as well as on the snake symbol, that in particular I must enforce if you are going for a fluffy color scheme. If I may, I would like to show you an example of what I believe is the possible "forgeworld is gonna rip this off" miniature for Captain Phobor and Chief Librarian Petrok. These blow my mind, I gotta get me one of these ;). 2 "Proud Sons of Ithaka" Phobor Petrok Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/126416-iron-snakes/page/5/#findComment-1525607 Share on other sites
corai
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this I like your army but, I must say, I personally think that for all circumstances and purposes of accurasy to the established Iron Snakes color scheme, a simple coat of BG metal and a few washes of black ink with some chainmail highlight would have suited the scheme better than black. Also, the Snake icon is iron-blue, not completly black :eek. The armour isn't actualy black. It's quite a dark silver (which can look black on some photos depending on how your monitor is configuered). Also, I mentioned earlier in the thread that I made the decision to change the colour of the IS icon as I thought blue would look a little out of place with the otherwise largely monochromatic palette used on the rest of the models. If I may, I would like to show you an example of what I believe is the possible "forgeworld is gonna rip this off" miniature for Captain Phobor and Chief Librarian Petrok. These blow my mind, I gotta get me one of these :D. 2 "Proud Sons of Ithaka" Phobor Petrok I've seen those models before and must confess I'm far from blown away. The phobor model is a fantastic conversion (although IIRC, phobor didn't wear termi armour, as the 10 suits were restricted to Skypio) but I don't think the colour selection really works on it. Petrok I'm just not a fan of. This is probably personal preference though. I've finally started work on my Warhound again (now attached to the IS task force in my fluff). There's a big apoc game in May at our club and I want the titan, Esienhorn and a self sculpted Cherubael all finished to march alongside the Snakes to (hopefully) victory. As soon as I've finished the titan's base I'll get some photos up Thaks corai Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/126416-iron-snakes/page/5/#findComment-1533348 Share on other sites
