Allright! Now that Forge World's gonna produce Heresy figures, I just got to finish this army before it's completely obsolete and/or inadequate!

 

Since the Grey knights came out i've been "upgrading" the army,modified some heads,arms,weapons and détails here and there. Some you might not even see ( but that's just me, I really want it to look great)

The banner received more details (I still haven't found the courage to get the freehand done)

All helmets were replaced with GK's paladins.

All ogres blades on the halberds were replaced with GK's.

I also have a winged rhino to convert, a contemptor relic dreadnought , 2 Land raider Proteus armored to get and this'll be 3000 pts.

 

Plus there's only the count as Grey Knights part here, the count as Space Marines part is completely been reworked:

All old models will be removed ( but i'll keep em because they were the one whichstarted thisarmy) which leaves twelve marines to be converted again, all of the helmets will be changed with GK's, another contemptor relic dreadnought will be added to replace my conversion, another terminator unit will be added and the current assault terminators (from left miniatures) will be replaced with my own conversion (so all the terminators will be the same general look).

BTW the kit is great but the tracks are too long, kinda difficult to glue them correctly.

Now, the curved blades from the tomb kings were too "Thousand Sons" looking, and it was about time I made this change of blade I've been thinking of since the Grey Knights came out

These were made with GK marine halberd blades and aquilla wings from the bits that come with the IG véhicules. You'll also have to recut the bolter ( removing the handle under it) and move the canon up.I'll prepare an addendum to my previous tutorial if some are interested.

 

I find these are much better looking and closer to the artworks.

 

I already replaced 12, only 4 left to convert, and 5 are already repainted;

You're doing a really great job man!

 

I'm sure most people think those small adjustements you keep making are mostly "trivial", but I don't agree. Each time you choose to modify something, it's always for the best, improving on the general look and cohesion of your overall work... Keep on with the good work (though keep in mind that sometimes trying to make something look better can ruin your previous work before you actually put more changes into place)...

 

One thing I really like with the new halberds of the power armoured Custodes, is that their weapons now look more elaborate than those of their Terminator armoured conterparts...

It fits quite well with the roles I envision them having. The PA Custodes would IMHO be those who'd be stationned at doors throughout the Palace on a daily basis, and thus would have more finely-worked halberds, more "parade weapons" than really meant to be used in combat...

While the more functionnal, no-nonsense, looking ones of the Terminators gives them a more agressive feeling... These ones look like they are meant to be used in anger... That when the Terminators are deployed it's never in vain.

I really like that... Whether it was done on purpose, or just by accident, I think this slight difference is something you should definitely keep!

 

And managing to make each fig unique in almost all its details (backpack, weapon, type of armour, etc...) while retaining such a high level of cohesion overall must have required quite a bit of work and thought. So congrats on that too...

I must say i'm kinda proud of how it looks.

 

Now, I've been talking of a count as space marine part for this army which though it's the oldest part of this project, it's never been posted . Not a problem since it's going through some major changes.

The original army was completely based on Dave Taylor's army (My sincerest thanks to him)with a lot of different regular marine power armors. I decided to get a little closer to some artworks.... That's what I hope at least.....

 

To that intent I ordered quite a lot of bits; evrything arrived yesterday; here's how it looked:

Last two weeks were kinda booked so little painting but quite a bit of converting.

 

Now I prepared a tutorial about my terminators, though the Upcoming FW Cataphratcs definitely put them to shame.... Nevertheless it can give some some ideas...

What you need:

With the Tomb Kings Standards (12) cut off the skull and other pendants. then glue the Orks boyz shoulder pads (13) onto.

Cut off the borders of the SM shoulder pads(14) .

Now glue the SM shoulder pads . You'll certainly have to file it a little in order to get it cleanned up.

As you can see I work with Top Technological Tools :D .

And cut oof the wings from the SM tank Icon (15) and glue them on the shoulder pads' sides.

 

Then the "Custodian Hallberd"

Cut off the thunderhammer (08) as pictured . Cut off the Silver Helm lance (10) as pictured.

Glue them together. I would suggest to pin them, just to be sure ....

Just keep the storm Bolter from (07). Keep the GK terminator blade (11). And keep the tip of the High Elf spear (09) ( more or less 4mm long).

Some you might wanna add alittle more detail; so get some WHFB Dwarf crossbows; cut off the trigger and glue it just over the hand or where it should be (like on this example):

Cut off the bretonnian knight's crest (04) Then glue the crest onto the terminator torso ( 02) . And onto that crest glue the Horse tail (05) . Pinning is still a good idea.

Glue the shoulder pads on the torso( without the skull they will fit perfectly).

Glue this on the terminator legs (03). Then add the tabard (18) (here from anvil industries).

 

Cut off the eagle from the banner (06) then glue it "beltbuckle" style (Some filing required to make it fit).

Place the small bretonnian shields (16) as "kneepads".

Now in order to adapt the arms you'll have to reduce the shouler joint about half.

Now that the Cataphracts are nearly out, seems a little pointless, but ....

 

 

As tha army goes

 

Another terminator squad was built (ewhile preparing the tutorial)

Execpt these have storm bolters from FW tartaros's.

Sergant became a lefty using the Culln arm and the left powerfist from the tartaros.

 

Cables were exchanged with Dragonforge's powercables .

Two are missing storm bolters, Two left to be converted.

The paint scheme will be the one you can "guess" on the sergeant, inspired from the last Adrian Smith's Horus vs Emperor artwork .

 

 

The objective marker wasn't 40k enough so I added the scribe servoskull Klément-1992G .

The goal here was to get every squad up to 10 (with two special weapons each).

I must say I'm quite proud of the two with falchions. The one on the left was insipired by poses from some classic 80's/90's figure. The other one from a grey knight diorama I recently saw and I wanted one with a real dynamic pose.

I sent my customary prè-FWD mail asking for 3 RT Rhinos and if possible still on sprue.

 

"Dream on!" you say?

No less than six Rhinos, and 5 were still on sprue ( I say "were" because one is alredy getting converted on the picture).

 

Then I finnaly got my hands on 5 Zealot miniatures motojets, one was converted during the FWD.

Not sure I understand your question right .... Let's try to answer it anyway.

 

_ I won't even try to compete with ForgeWorld, no use I'm no sculptor so I'd be dead before even trying.

 

_ This army is a count as Space Marine/Grey Knights army; I built it accordingly, It certainly won't fit the Custodian Army list (when there wil be one, so not so soon IMHO). If possible and if it's not too much work/trouble ( some bits are becoming quite hard to get) I'll try to add some figures to get it right.

 

_ The current Power Armor Custodian Tutorial will be updated because I changed some things here and there (mostly on how I get the halberd done now). The terminator Tutorial was prepared before the Cataphractii were announced and first published a couple hours after.

 

_ Forge world Stuff will be a thousand times better than mine there's not question about it. Today with the cataphractii, contemptors,... out, there's no real point to my tutorials except they may have some small ideas inside for other projects.... But I might be mistaken.

Well, It's a little bit difficult since I changed my way of painting a lot and I still don't know the new references but let's try:

 

I would say:

_ A first coat of a 50/50 mix of Shining Gold/Scorched Brown.

_ Shining Gold ( do no use a gold too "yellow" )

_ Depending on the looks you want to get, a dark brown or black wash.

_ mix 60/40Shining Gold and Mithril Silver

_ Mithril Silver.

As you can see for the Sisters that will be in squads I went for the other paintscheme shown in the HH artbooks, the red and gold. I just think it's make the scout squad blend better in the army.
