Thraximus
My loyalist DIY chapter, the Storm Chargers. I've used the Cleanse and Purify advantage, and probably Trust Your Battle-Brothers so I can shoot bolters, flamers, and mop up in assault. Major drawback: Eye to Eye, Minor Drawback: Have Faith in Suspicion. Group shots: Tactical Squads: Fast Attack: And miscellanea: I've twin-linked the guns on the Land Speeder at a self-improsed +20 points (I thought it would be fair), and of course, opponents consent. If nothing else it just looks cool. :) The fluff behind it: Impressed with success of the Raven Wing's use of the modified weapons loadout, the Storm Chargers undertook their own tests of such a system. After much analysis, the chapters Tech Marines agreed that the design could be replicated. However, lacking the original schematics, the Tech Marines were forced to cannibalize parts from their existing stocks of Land Speeders. This process resulted in a successful, but rare design. Orange has been used as an accent color to varying degrees to add a personalization for a little color. So what cha think? I still have more to go; up next: Chaplain with jumppack to lead the Assault Squad, Dreadnought, Devastators, extra standard marines, Predator, Razorback, and Whirlwind, plus Scouts, Terminators, Command squad, and captain. Thraximus
Its Blazing Orange, but its from my photography that it looks pink. Almost all those models had a thick layer of Skull White between the black primer and the orange. It made the orange so bright, neon day-glow orange almost. The landspeeder was done with Macharius Solar orange as base for orange I think it looks much better. Colorful still, but muted. Â No highlights or anything yet, that will get there. I just have so much to do that I want to get it all painted for now. Â The weapons should be blood red too. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/129639-imperial-dragoons-formerly-storm-chargers/#findComment-1493066 Share on other sites
st.germaine
Very nice looking army and a color combination that isn't seen often. What are you using for a chapter symbol? Is it the double lightning bolt on the LS? Thraximus
Indeed I am. I'm still not quite satisfied with it, but thats probably because I don't have it plastered on everything yet :) Â Only I concern I had with the double bolts is that after I painted them on I thought they looked familiar. Quick Google search later, yep. If I'm not careful they turn into the Nazi SS lightning bolts. Thraximus
I finally update with progress! ....Some 5 months later.... But here we are, heavy weapons and the Devastators who love them. Note: Two of those marines are my experiments in highlighting/edging and the only one with a bolter was an experiment with washes. Yes, I know they need bolters, but I'm not quite sure why they don't have them yet. :D Sergeant's head needs to be painted, but I'm waiting until I get another flesh color and some more practice at painting skin on guardsmen. And just finished last night, my first tank. (I'm gushing with geeky pride :D) I'm rather pleased with how it turned out; though I think on the next tanks the rear insets will be painted orange, too. As well, the red turned out kinda pink; I'm hoping a future wash or two will fix that, or a thin cote of Red Gore. And finally, fallen Brother Mordus. (No relation to the B&C's Mordus :D). Not entirely pleased with how he turned out, but I can't put my finger on it. Too much silver maybe; plus I just noticed I missed the rivots on the body. Missile launcher isn't finished, and won't be for a while. :P As for what's next, I'll finally be giving love to my commanders, and then either a RazorRhinoWind, or a break to work on some Imperial Guard. Also, my marines are going to get a rename. I'm thinking (something) Dragoons. Perhaps Imperial Dragoons as I'm imagining them as Imperial Fists successors. Cheers, brothres! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/129639-imperial-dragoons-formerly-storm-chargers/#findComment-1643442 Share on other sites

Thraximus
Five weeks later...... Some progess! And I need to turn this into a blog so I can stop pseudo-threadmancing. I've renamed the chapter from Storm Chargers (too cliche) to Imperial Dragoons and decided to use Crimson Fist icons for badges. Terminators in progress: That cyclone launcher is also magnetized and easily removed. Those orange right shoulder pads will probably force me to use Imperial Fists transfers instead because even when painted over, red icons don't have enough pop. My tactical sergeants now with new back banners. Pictures arn't that great, but the sergeants have had their blue and orange armor highlighted; as well the banners have been mostly highlighted and shaded with the new washes. A black wash on the weapons really helped to tone them down and darken the red. Photos also have not been resized or been adjusted yet. Don't feel like dealing with all that this late at night. I'm not totally satisfied with my models, and its probably because there is such garish contrast between dark blue, bright orange, and bright red. The colors aren't really tying themselves together into something real, like it is supposed to be there.
