W.I.P Dragon Claws Fluff

Hey

Im working on some fluff for my army and i want to get your opinion.Eventually id like to do an IA style article but i want to flesh out the story i have so far so any ideas are appreciated.

He was born into poverty, and was treated like an animal for the first few years of his life. They had named him Lucius.Lucius Payne. At the age of 5 his parents were killed while mining material's for Dr.Mitrich, the weapons maker. The tau had killed them before they could supply the space marines with the new weaponry Mitrich was working on.

So now Lucius was an orphan. He spent 6 months roaming the streets living off of scraps and remains of anything he could find.He was a born survivor, and when Malcom Draconis first saw him he adopted him instantly.Malcom was a rich man, poor of health whose parents were well known local scientists. He knew he could never have children of his own,and had always wanted a son so it was a dream come true to find Lucius.Once Malcom had cleaned him up,and fed him they started chatting.Lucius told him about his life so far and that he had wanted to escape for years and wasnt really upset about the death of his parents.Over the next few years they developed a strong bond, and Lucius grew into a strong, brave teenager. He helped Malcom with his supply industry when Malcom felt too ill to do it for himself. It was while he was working for Malcom one day that he had his first encounter with a Space Marine. It was an Ultramarine whose squad had run out of ammo and were fighting on a nearby planet and came to buy weapons. He was astonished by the sheer size of the Marine. He instantly became fascinated with the Space Marines and the Imperium and him and Malcom discussed this alot.Over the next few months the Marines kept coming back for more weapons and ammo.

Then one day they stopped coming to the shop.

The Tau Empire had been repeatedly bombing the mining shafts that supplied the materials for Malcoms weapons, and noone was able to help them. So Malcom decided that as noone was helping them, and because he had a load of surplus weapons and Power Armour that he had been saving for the Ultramarines so he decided to set up a defensive organisation. He used his parents trust fund to open a training academy and began to raise some interest into the defense core he was starting. His parents had agreed to implant all necessary organs into his soldiers so they could use there Power Armour.Lucius was the first person to sign up and due to his immense strength had no problems with carrying the armour. He was also incredibly talented with both guns and close combat weapons. When more people signed up he was already top of the class and naturally was chosen to be the Squad Leader because Malcom was too ill to lead them himself. They built up an army of about 100-130 and then they needed a name.Once again Malcom came to the rescue. The Dragon Cave Defense Force was born that day,and began to defend local people and were thought of as the law by the local people. They had fought off invasions by the Tau Empire,The Orks and The Necrons. They were amazingly strong in combat and incredibly talented with there weaponry.Eventually word got round and the Imperium were interested in recruting the DCDF as a Chapter of the Space Marines.

They began the gruelling space marines training course, and a name was chosen by there founder Malcom Draconis. He chose the name The Dragon Claws. Shortly before they finished there training the illness that Malcom had fought his entire life finally caught up with him,and he died. They held a big memorial in his honour and Lucius was heard to say" Ill fight this war for you,Father, and i will win in your honour."

He grew up to be a huge brute of a man,Who excelled at all forms of Combat be it Melee or Gunfighting,he is blessed with strength unmatched by any mortal man and an intelligence that would impress the Emperor himself. He is the chapter master now,and didnt have to try very hard to soar throught the ranks. He leads his chapter with his fierce battle cry.

"Fear The Dragons or Face Your Demise!!"

*30 years had passed, and the Dragon Claws had been fighting on Holda,an isolated frozen world that was being attacked by all manner of Xenos scum. The small numbers of people who lived there were under imperial law so the Imperium sent the Dragon Claws in to defend there people.*

The Dragon Claws had been sat on this frozen hellhole of a planet for many years now. They had forgotten the planets name, and why they were here. All they knew,is that the Grand Masters of Terra had sent them. They were told they would be called back once the mission was over. They used to have supplies dropped off every week, food, water, ammo and letters from home. All that stopped about a year ago. There was no word from home,no mention of being picked up.

The battle they had to stay alive was difficult. The had to fight off invasions from Orks,Tau,Eldar and even Necrons. They had rounded up all machinery parts that could be usefull, and had stored them all in a customized tank built specifically for The Dragon Claws. It was called a Hydra, and it was enourmous.Easily enough room for twenty troops even with its huge amount of guns,it was a formidable oppenent that had helped them win the battle against the invading armies. But now there was a new threat to there survival.

The marines were getting fatigued, they could only fight off the cold for so long. There armour had began to freeze up and rust, making it much harder for them to move.In the more rural areas of the planet, much of the snow was stained red with the blood of the Ork invasion they had fought off some days ago. They lost alot of men that day,and they needed to get home and rest. They were getting sick of waiting for a call saying they were going to be picked up,and if it wasnt for the local people, they would have starved months ago.Ammo was running low, weapons were seizing up in the cold.Tempers were tested to the extremes and sometimes failed, causing a marine to attack one of his brothers, but, all the time this was happening there was another imperial army on the planet who had been forgotten about. They were a small group of Imperial Guardsmen, who called themselves The Emperor's Retribrution. They had been fighting the same opponent that The Dragon Claws had been fighting and they too were supposed to be picked up and taken home once the battle was over.

The battle finished nearly a year ago and both armies were still here.Running desperatly low on food and drink, and having exhausted the hospitality of the locals,The Dragon Claws chapter master Lucius Payne, decided they needed to go on the hunt for somewhere to hide out before winter came.It was cold and snowing now,and this was supposed to be summer. He decided that they should climb the mountains.Either that,or use some of there vehicles(the ones that hadent seized up due to the frost) to mine there way through the mountain. They decided that it would be best to go over,as they may end up destroying the entire moutain range if they tried to go through it.

It took six weeks for them to climb the mountains, and they lost 100 men. There ranks were now left very very low.Luckily, some of there men had actually been dropped this side of the mountain six months ago,and were hiding in a cave shielding themselves from the snow. There were 50 men,in one cave sharing the meat of a small mountain goat. They joined there battle brothers, and descended the rocky mountain range.

It was once they were on the other side that they discovered The Emperor's Retribution. They had lots of spare food and drink, and had managed to find shelter enough for them and The Dragon Claws aswell as all of there vehicles. They also had enough ammo to overthrow an entire planet, aswell as enough manpower to run one.The Emperor's Retribution told The Dragon Claws to make themselves at home and they immediatly went towards the fire. They removed there helmets, and there gloves and sat down to relax. There they stayed until holes started to appear in there armour where the frost had filled in there wounds, and kept there armour safe. They soon realised that there armour was in a bad shape. There was no way that they could survive another attack without the help of The Emperor's Retribution. So they made a pact.Lucius and Alex,The Emperor's Retribution chapter master, agreed that both of there armys would watch out for the other one.Alex was a strange looking man, with short black hair and a strange look to his armour that seemed to be strengthed somehow and a modified boltgun, that could withstand the cold tempratures. He had done the same modification to all of his mens guns,as well as a similar one to the engines of there vehicles. He decided he should do the same to The Dragon Claws weapons and vehicles.

A few days later they heard a message over there radio, and one of there sensors had picked up a dropship in the area.It was on the planets surface and it was imperial. That was all they needed to know. They packed up there stuff, and started out towards the location of there imperial allies. They had a long way to walk, and if they were attacked they would be extremly easy to defeat.Any of there close combat weapons that required a motor were frozen solid and all of the power weapons were barely useable.Alex had not managed to work out a way of making these work yet. This was when Lucius borrowed a sword from his friend and Battle Brother,Olaf the Brave(A dwarven space marine who was a member when they were just a defense force) who useually carried a wide array of weapons. He was a talented blacksmith, and had been making weapons for The Dragon Claws for many years now.His most noteable weapon was Sergent "Hookie" Hookings Hammer, called the Son of Thor.

"When they arrive, debrief them and get them out of here."Yelled the General. His mission was simple.Retrieve two imperial army's and provide them with back up if its needed. He knew, that his Ultramarines would welcome The Dragon Claws with open arms,as there are practically battle brothers. The general heard a noise from deep into the valley, the low rumble of powerfull engines. He went to the edge to see an incredible force of marines, imperial guardsmen, some tanks and bikes,a lot of customized vehicles and even a few dreadnaughts had survived the battles here.He awaited there arrival with great anticipation. He knew this army were tought,he had been told so by the Adeptus Mechanicus, who had made many vehicles for them that were specific to there chapter.

As they grew closer his men assembled behind him.The general pulled out his binoculars and tried to get a closer look at the men marching towards him.Barely seeing them through the blanket of snow falling down,he just managed to notice a few of the closer men.The leader,or so he assumed, was a very tall man, with enourmous shoulders and arms as big as tree trunks. He had a large helmet on,shaped like a skull, with a look that would scare even the bravest of men.He was carrying in his hand a sword, which appeared to be of dwarven manufacture. It was probably a fine looking weapon, but in the snowstorm,it looked like it was from the dark ages. The armour the men had on had rusted quite badly and they were having trouble marching as the joints on there power armour were quite stiff. This army looked as if they had been throught about a million battles, when they were a relatively new army.

Lucius could just make out the striking figure of the ultramarine general. He was a relativly old man, with greying hair and a scar across one eye.In one hand he held a large power axe,and he was looking through a pair of binoculars.Lucius knew that these men were here to help them, but he couldent help resenting the man that he was approaching. He told his men to follow his lead, and that he had a plan.Confused but loyal, they agreed.

As the approaching army got closer, the leader took off his skull helmet. His face was intense. His eyes appeared to have a fire inside them that came from deep within.

"Hello" the leader said. His voice was powerfull and scary, almost as if he were part man, part demon.

"Hi.Were here to help you guys.We heard you were having a bit of trouble with some Orks so we dropped by to help."Replied the ultramarine general. This enraged Lucius and the Dragon Claws.

"They were nothing we couldent handle.I think youll find were alot toughther than we look" He said, almost growling.

"ATTACK!!" Lucius roared, before embedding his sword into the ultramarine general. The sword struck straight through the generals armour, and into his heart. His eyes went dark and he began to choke on his own blood. Not a single ultramarine was left alive. The slaugter had been quick and bloody aswell as intensely violent. The Ultramarines were not expecting an attack and when attacked they discovered there force weapons and guns would not work. After the battle Lucius gave up his helmet, which was picked up by one of his men.A marine by the name of Vladamir.Vladamir's helmet had been damaged when he attacked an Ultramarine Terminator despite the fact hes a normal marine. He was a squad leader and Lucius had the utmost respect for Vlad.Vlad was raised in a similar way to Lucius. His parents treated him badly so he ran away and joined the DCDF,which was created by Lucius's adopted father, Malcom Draconis. The Emperor's Retribution decided to join the Dragon Claws, and call themselves The Revenge Of The Dragon.

That was a year ago. There reign of terror, hatred and piracy has been consistent since then. They are the most feared marine army that man has known, with a strong leader and a real thirst for battle. They strike fear into the hearts of every Marine army, especially the Ultramarines after the losses they suffered trying to rescue them.Even Xenos armys are scared of them, there love of causing pain to there enemies and there immense strength in combat is enought to scare even the C'tan.

Its long i know, and if you read it all i thank you. So,any bits that dont work, any bits that work really well or anything i should change??

Thanks

Pretty good writing, but i usually try not to comment much until an IA is up (that way i don't accidentally misinterpret something you've written in a short story). I have to say though, i'm not a giant fan of the name. While it's prefectly useable, it just sounds a little "bleh" or vanilla. However, that is just my opinion.

Hey

Well the reason an I.A isnt up is because im still trying to flesh the ideas out  and really?? I thought the name was quite good...Do you have any suggestions for better ones?? I want to use dragons as a big part of my Army due to something that is going to be revealed soon...just not yet but i dont have to use dragons in my name.

The Red Dragon

To be frank, I'm an old traditionalist when it comes to naming. The animal is very rarely the first name in a two-part chapter name that includes an animal (the ones that do tend to be Birds, strangely: Raven Guard, hawk lords, Eagle Warriors, etc.)

If i was going to do the chapter, I would personally (remember this is just an opinion, nothing more) go with a name like Steel dragons, Iron Dragons, or the like.

Now, pardon my intrusion, but despite being a relatively new member myself I'd like to comment on the ideas you've just laid out for the Chapter you're making.

a.) Now, I'm no lore-master here (I admit to my misconceptions of some areas of 40k lore) but as far as I know, Space Marines do *not* trade for weapons and ammunition, even the relatively cosmopolitan of the Astartes chapters, like the Ultramarines, Salamanders, or Raven Guard. I'm not even sure that, aside from knowing what currency is, they even use it. For their equipment needs, they turn to their Armorium, who either makes what they need, or passes on the supplies received from the Munitorium. They're supposed to be a relatively self-sufficient fighting force, after all.

b.) Astartes chapters do not JUST give away sacred geneseed, nor is the technology needed to mainatin and propagate those organs, and even more of a stretch for one to suddenly acquire ways to recreate ancient technologies like Power Armor, and weaponry associated to the Space marines. There ARE reasons why only the Astartes, the Sisters of Battle, and important members of the Inquisition have access to such equipment. Simple arms dealers have nowhere near the influence and resources required for such a feat. Sorry, stretching disbelief here.

c. ) One does not make a seven-foot Astartes just from anybody, even well-intentioned anybodies. Do at least some reading on this part -- Index Astartes 1 gives a good idea on just what it takes to make a Space Marine in the 40k universe. This isn't like Starcraft's Colonials, after all (who are simply brainwashed criminals), as the standards most chapters keep make sure only the BEST of recruits get chosen (the recruitment practices of the Crimson Fists, for example, are pretty brutal, where only one or two aspirants survive just the recruitment rituals!), and even then sometimes it isn't enough. Add to that the unpredictability nature of geneseed compatibility, genetic purity, and the neophyte's suceptibility to mental conditioning, well, only a VERY small percentile of the recruits actually become Space Marines.

d.) Nor does the Imperium 'recuit' Space Marines like your standard 21st-century army, or just found a chapter. THAT decision is usually made by the High Lords of Terra, and it's a decision they never make lightly. When they DO decide to have a new founding of Astartes chapters (note the plural), it's for an important reason.

e.) Before I go further, it would REALLY help if you read the DIY Chapter FAQ here. Once you do, you'll clearly most of what your chapter's doing wrong, especially with regards to lore.

Not sounding harsh here, as I freely admit to doing my own share of slip-ups in my short time on the boards, but there are many points that require rethinking.

Acquisition of weapons in the Astartes chapters varies. Some chapters are well equipped by their armourium, while some must depend on support from mars and other forge worlds for their equipment.

With your actual writing, you seem to be having a lot of grammar issues. A quick readthrough will probably help you out here (especially with your "there" "They're" and "Their" s.

Hey

Hmm...Basically i should Scrap the Majority of my fluff and start again. Well that sucks :teehee:

@Espada Azul: Okay so i understand that marines dont conventionally buy weaponry but the plan was that they were along way from home and Malcoms shop was the closest place, then because they were trying to Secure this system the High lords of Terra comissioned him to make Armour and Munitions for them incase they needed them. The part about the organs was an afterthough although what i might do is have it that Lucius and any remaining members of the DCDF in my army were Created for a space marine army from a certain geneseed but they went A.W.O.L because the planet was attacked and there parents killed.

I didnt want to reveal this yet but i guess i have to..The reason Lucius is suitable for a space marine is because he is a direct descendent of the Dragon Warriors, An army led by powerfull sorcerers who would implant Dragon Organs into there men before the men could Reproduce thus Rendering any future life powerfull enough to be accepted into the army.He is a direct descendant and as such he has the Power of a dragon meaning he should be good enough to be a Marine.

Maybe they were making a chapter on that planet but the people Implanted with the Geneseed (Havent decided on a particular geneseed yet) were belived dead due to the Constant bombing of the planet. They discovered that a few survived and decided to Continue with their plan to make them a chapter of the Astartes so that the planets they are capturing Nearby can be garrisoned for Defense reasons.

Do these changes help??

@krieger haggoroth: Yeah, ive got the story saved on my PC and because i was writing it all at once by the time id finished i was too tired to go back and check my Grammar.(sp?) Ill correct at somepoint, thanks for noticing.

Thanks for your help guys,im new to the whole Fluff thing and havent really read the Codexs or the IA so i really do need the help from you guys to guide me.Thanks again

From

The Red Dragon

Well, some background reading surely helps. There are a lot of easy-to-get sources of information on the foundation of Space Marine chapters, the most obvious being the Index Astartes collections of articles. Even just IA 1 (which gives information on the actual creation of Space Marines AND the foundings) is more than enough. Getting your hands on a Codex will go a long way too.

The rest, well, I already gave the link to the DIY Chapter FAQ. It's best to read it to see the most common Do's and Don'ts in Chapter Creation (for both Loyalist and Renegade!). If you had, you'd see that, erm, a LOT of the details you have for your Chapter don't exactly segue well with the established lore.

Hey

Ignore what i said before was in a bad mood lol. Okay, ill have a look at the DOs and DONTs and re-write my rubbish attempt at fluff accordingly.Does anything work well or should i just Scrap the lot and start again??

Thanks

i will say that the idea for your turning traitor, over reacting to an unintended insult is alright, it has potential anyway. i'd use a chapter of less reknown than the ultramarines though, so that no one calls foul. (people like me :P ) go with an official GW chapter that is less well known, like the Imperial Paladins or something.

but i agree, your chapter doesn't have to make everything itself, i always imagined most chapters received much of their material through treaties they hold with planets, in which they pledge to come to the world's aid in return for the resources they receive.

Hey

Does anyone have a link to info about the Lesser Known GW chapters?? Hmm...i really wish that it wasnt so difficult to write good fluff...Theres always something i dont realise or have glazed over or have basically just destroyed a part of the original GW fluff.

Thanks for the help anyway guys,im trying really hard to come up with a new idea about how they were formed/founded and i really did want them to be a defense force before they became marines.

Is it plausible that they were made with a particular geneseed(for the sake of this hypothetical situation lets say Salamanders) and they were being trained but they Salamanders that were on there Home world training them were killed during a tau invasion and they had to fend for themselves, thus rendering there tactical skills practically non existent but allowing me to still say there extremely good fighters?? I figured that because they had to fend for themselves before finishing there training there fighting stall has adapted and there is a certain Ruggedness about there attacks there isnt a whole lot of skill behind them but there is a lot of power?? Does that work to everyones liking??

From

The Red Dragon

P.S Sorry for the bad grammar i feel sick and im hungry so i cant be bothered to go back and check it all.

you can go to the gamesworkshop web page, look up space marines, and they have a chapter gallery in there that has pictures of tons of chapters, just pick one that isn't already too well known.

in fact, here you go: http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/spa...m_gallery/1.htm

you have to recruit boys around 10-15 years of age to become space marines, so they can't really be a deffense force, unless you come up with a really odd home world that uses child soldiers for some reason.

also, you have to make your story believable, if the marines training them were killed off, how could they survive and win? doesn't really make any sense to me. or are you suggesting they were simply killed in one lucky attack? try not to hinge your entire IA upon one single moment. anyway you don't need a reason like that to make them a brute force army, you could simply say that the people they recruit from fight this way, so through generations of recruiting they have adopted similar tactics. but remember, marines are always outnumbered, so even the SW have to fight with a certain degree of finese, that is, they can't simply go up against everytthing the enemy has at once and expect to win. just because you'll have the same number of points as your opponent on the table doesn't mean that's how it would always be for your chapter. space marines are always facing an up hill fight, but their incredible power and skill is what makes up for it and lets them prevail.

Hey

Thanks guys, ill be sure to check out the less known marine chapters so that Ultra fans dont hate me for killing them

@utilityzero: Yeah im aware that it needs a hell of a lot of work. The bit about the Strength and Ruthlessness was just one way of me trying to work some things out.Im going to really struggle now...it turns out that the story i was really happy with isnt even useable as my armys back story.

So...it would seem im in some deep doodoo.Do i try to stick my original plan and work out the kinks or do i write a whole new story and try to fit some of my original ideas in...What do you guys think??

Thanks for the link krieger haggoroth, ill check it out once ive posted this.

Anyway...Im going to go and have a think and pray to Cuddles,The god of Fluff in the hope that He/She/It can help me out.

From

The Red Dragon

The fiction at the top is a bit dense and inaccessible for me to read. This forum isn't really for fan fiction, that tends to go into the LIBER COMMINISCOR. Could you perhaps summarise the key points or traits of your Chapter?

With regards to 'Dragon Claws' - the Black Dragons maintain units of mutated assault Marines known as the 'Dragon Claws'. I wouldn't say the name is 'generic', per se; I think it works well, though depending on your theme you could potentially work on something else.

Hey

Whoah, this new skin is mighty funky and rather refreshing after ive just got up.

Anyway,I knew there was an offshot of the Black Dragons called the Dragon Claws but i didnt find out until after id decided on a name.Ive been trying to come up with a new name ever since i found that out but i cant think of one i like...Id like Dragon to be in there somewhere but as i havent actually decided a paint scheme i cant call them the (Insert army colour scheme here) Dragons. Anyone got any ideas??

Also as far as the first bit goes, thanks for clearing that up ill try to change that and somehow make it less like a story and more like an IA article explaining about the army and there leader and stuff.

Oh,one more thing,as a replacement to the death of the (apparently) well loved Ultras,I was wondering if Dark Hands would be a suitable replacement.I want a chapter who would actually say that unintended insult which offended The Dragon Claws so much...I was thinking either Dark Hands or Metamarines...I like the idea of the Dark Hands as my sworn enemy instead of the Ultras actually...i think ill choose them.

Thanks for your help and advice, youve all been more than helpfull, this is my first real attempt at any fluff for my chapter and your help is whats guiding me in the right direction

From

The Red Dragon

any chapter is ok, even the ultramarines i guess. but the problem with the UM or one of the big name chapters, is that people tend to get upset when you use them, and since GW writes about them from time to time, they could say something which totally contradicts your fluff, they could do the same with one of the more minor chapters, i mean, the black templars used to have company numbers... what the hell happened there? but it seems less likely.

The Dragon Claws aren't an offshot (successor) of the Black Dragons. They're the name for a unit within the Black Dragons. Those of the Black Dragons that display the mutated bone-claws are inducted into the Dragon Claws. It would, I suppose, be the equivalent of the Blood Angels' Veteran Assault Squads.

You could conceivably call your Chapter the Dragon Claws without any problems.

Hey

@utilityzero: Okay thanks mate, ive had a look and i think im going to go for darkhands.

@Commissar Molotov:Ohhh,i get what you mean now,im glad i can keep the name.

So,to update the Ultras are to be replaced with Darkhands, there going to have been created to be a chapter for the space marines and then something happened but i havent decided what yet.

Does anyone have a link/any info on Geneseeds?? I want to choose one but im unsure of what advantages/disadvantages each one does.

Thanks

Known Mutations:Corax's gene-seed lacks the Mucranoid and the Betcher's Gland, and has a malfunctioning Melanchromic Organ which causes skin to pale and hair to darken.

Possible Mutations:None

Some useful references:

Gene-Seed Organs : A list of the common gene-seed organs you will see in your typical Astartes warrior. A chapter free of mutation will have all 19 organs, but I'm under the impression that anywhere from 30-50% of all Astartes Chapters will have cases of geneseed malfunction or mutation of some sort, ranging from slight to worrying (e.g., it will VERY likely get you in trouble with the Inquisition). Some famous chapters will have totally lost the use of specific organs, in fact.

Some examples of 'pure' chapters (those that still have all 19 geneseed organs in functioning capacity): Ultramarines (and most of their Successors), Dark Angels (and their succesors), White Scars (and their successors), Salamanders. The Iron Hands are questionable in this regard since, y'know, they often swap out their organs for bionic parts.

Examples of Chapters that have lost or malfunctioning geneseed organs: Imperial Fists and successors (Belcher's Gland and Sus-An organ nonfunctional), Raven Guard and successors (Belcher's Gland and Mucranoid nonfunctional, Melanochrome organ malfunctioning), Blood Angels and successors (Omophagea malfunctioning, bringing rise to Black Rage and Red Thirst), Space Wolves (not exactly malfunctioning, but unstable due to the Canix Helix).

Incidentally, the Gene-seed list is also found in Index Astartes 1.

Edit: DRAT, Sigismund beat me to it!

Hey

Thanks for that guys, both of you were really helpfull.

Im thinking of Using Jaghatai Khan's geneseed as id like to make use of the possible mutations that that geneseed has.Are there any famous chapters that are made using this geneseed??Im unsure of most of the geneseeds of most chapters but, could i claim that i had a geneseed for certain Recruited Troops where there Black Carapace mutated and meant that they couldent use Power armour or is that too unbelivable??I think it would allow for a very original idea and would allow for some quite good conversions.

What do you think??

From

The Red Dragon

Although the Power Armor used by Sisters of Battle and certain Inquisitors don't necessarily need the Black Carapace, they're nowhere as effective as the Power Armor used by Astartes (in lore, not on the tabletop). This is because OF the Black Carapace geneseed implant, which basically lets the Space Marine utilize the suit as if it was part of his own body. A Chapter that loses the Black Carapace organ, or one whose organ has mutated substantially, is in essence doomed; while the Power Armor does not make the marine, it sure makes them more durable than they already are, deadlier and more effective.

Hey

It was only going to be for Certain troops, but what i may do is say that those troops have a Mutated Black Carapace that makes the armour mould to there bodies.Certain parts would be armour, certain parts would be flesh.

Suitable idea??

For a hardcore Chaos-worshipping Renegade chapter, I'd say yes. In fact, the Obliterators (originally of the Iron Warriors) are ultimate examples of marines physically merging with their weapons and armor, becoming walking weapons platforms that can disturbingly ceven reate ammunition for their melded armory.

For a Loyalist chapter, it's a definite no, as the Black Carapace is actually the last geneseed implant made before a neophyte becomes a full battle-brother. So it's pretty understandable how a malfunctioning, mutated, or nonexistent Black Carapace organ can spell the end of a Chapter. Also, something as extreme a mutation as to cause battle-brothers to meld with their armor invites the armed intervention of the Inquisition (essentially spelling an altogether different doom for the Chapter, this time due to being blasted out of existence by the Grey Knights).
