The Purge test marine

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum, just wanted to say hi with a picture.

I'm a 33 year old father, who paints as a hobby when the kids are off to bed.

For the past four years I've been painting fantasy stuff, some of you might know me as sexy beast on other forums.

With the release of the daemon codex I've been giving 40K a look, and have bought a box of chaos space marines to get into 40K.

I've decided on the Purge, I like the idea of puss and boils free Nurgle, but with lots of weathering and my own twist.

This mini let me experiment with some tutorials from Allan C, Cyril and Kaple, and I have to say painting this mini was the most fun of all minis I've painted last year.

So here's the pic(s):

Thanks for the compliments and the welcome guys.

Brother Nihm, I'll take some extra pics of the head next time I've got a marine finished.

Khrangar, great to see a familiar face from the Herdstone.

Muskie, I think I'll start with 14 and then see from there. :huh:

Alpha PTP, the skin tone is dwarf flesh with a (really small) drop of dark angels green. Highlighted by adding bleached bone, shaded with glazes of a shadow grey/blood red mix. The veins are Shadow gey.

49 would be a more Nurglistic goal, 7 squads of seven or 5 squads of seven plus one of 14 if you insisted on all of them being "Plaguemarines" rather than Nurgle renegades. I've lost track of how many I've painted, but I've stripped and repainted some, which does save you the cost of buying new models, but it sets you back in the long term because your total army count goes down...

Yup, preeeetty damn awesome :) Really nice to see someone go a different route over the traditional Nurgle approach. Looking forward to the head close-ups, I hadn't noticed before (tsk tsk to me and my eye for detail) but when it was pointed out I had a closer look, and damn, it looks superb!

Very nice! The chips and scratches on the green sections of armour are beautifully done, as is the head. I think the black parts of the model let it down considerably though - the elbow guard and gauntlet look like they've been done in a real hurry. If you re-highlight those parts with as much precision as you've highlighted all those little chips, it'll be one stunning model :)
