Roughneck
For the past several weeks I've been building a gaming table that would fit inside the trunk of a Hyundai Elantra, as well as enough terrain to cover said table. Toss in the odd compulsion to start working on a Slaaneshi Chaos Lord (I don't have a chaos army :D ), and I was downright distracted from my Roughnecks. But it's time my boy's got some more loving, here's the start of an 8-man Tactical Squad. I've got a few mold lines to clean up, some barrels to drill, and they're ready to slap some paint on. http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg199/Laghostra/SquadDirek1.jpg p.s. I'll break out the good camera when they're further along. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130821-tactical-squad-direk/ Share on other sites
I am Legion
looks great so far, I'm just curious though. I never put my marines together before I paint them, is it easier to paint it when they are put together? do you ever find it hard to readh any spots on them? Roughneck
It's really a matter of personal preference there. For tabletop minis I usually paint them after they're assembled simply because it speeds up the process. For display pieces and such I paint piece by piece. Patrick O)))
BEARD!! Now THAT'S a marine. A true man. Very neat so far. I've always fully assembled before painting, which I admit is not a great way to do it. In future I intend to dry-fit then paint before assembling, but then I only ever intend to make stuff for display. Roughneck
Slow progress so far, but progress none the less! http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg199/Laghostra/SquadDirek4.jpg http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg199/Laghostra/SquadDirek3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130821-tactical-squad-direk/#findComment-1517653 Share on other sites
Lord Orion
Loooking good!!! I like the way you modified the barrel of the bolter with, I'm assuming, copper pipe. That's a nice effect. Was it complicated and what diameter/size is it? Cool beard too. Was it complicated and what diameter/size is it? Cool beard too. Thanks ;) The bolter modification came as somewhat of a necessity. I had to move the barrel up and remove part of the stock below the muzzle, in order to attach the bayonet in the manner desired. The process was relatively easy, I simply cut away all of the protrusions on the muzzle and drilled a hole for the brass rod to be inserted. As for the size of the rod....was hoping nobody would ask. I believe it's 3/32", but don't quote me on that, it was lying in my toolkit unpackaged :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130821-tactical-squad-direk/#findComment-1517752 Share on other sites
Setomidor
Looking promising ;) I actually have to borrow the bluetac-models-on-bottles concept. I've seen people do it before, but it hasn't made any impression on be before now... Love the bayonette conversions! Roughneck
Time to resurrect this project  With the new codex dropping soon, I've decided to flesh out the squad to 10 men, adding a stand bolter marine and a missile launcher. I may go back and pick out a few more highlights, but for all intents and purposes this Marine is done: http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg199/Laghostra/boltertroopercopy-1.jpg These two are the new additions: http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg199/Laghostra/TrooperLarrycopy.jpg http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg199/Laghostra/missiletroopercopy.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130821-tactical-squad-direk/#findComment-1656598 Share on other sites

Roughneck
For the red I start with a mix of 2 parts Blood Red, 1 part Black and 1 part Terracotta, then I just blend up to Bloody Red. Here's the chapter insignia: http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg199/Laghostra/Untitled-1copy.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130821-tactical-squad-direk/#findComment-1656636 Share on other sites

Roughneck
Unfortunately Brother Beard-O won't be making it into this squad. He had a bit of an accident involving a falling can of spray paint ;) I may salvage his head and incorporate him into my next project. the_Armyman
Really nice looking figs, Roughneck. You're red is very gritty and well-blended. I'm also digging the hand-painted chapter and tactical symbols. Unfortunately, either my monitor or the pics make it hard to make out the color on the shoulder pads. Is it gray or olive green? Please keep us updated on the progress of this army, coz the first squad really looks tight. When you post an update, get a better pic of your bases, too. I wanna see what mats you used :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130821-tactical-squad-direk/#findComment-1660399 Share on other sites

Roughneck
Thanks for the comments :( Unfortunately, either my monitor or the pics make it hard to make out the color on the shoulder pads. Is it gray or olive green? Both actually. I use gray to desaturate the olive green.
