Miguen
Ohhh That is one nice primarch! although for some reason, the pose of miniature and the helmet especially, makes me think of Optimus Prime from the Transformers cartoon. Korloth Darkwolf
Thnaks for the praises all. Its keeping my momentum up on the project. Will be doing some more today. Once i've put up my sons new bed! @ miguen: Your not the first to comment that it looks like a transformer. I think its the helmet choice. I think that you have pushed me over in my indecision about the head. Bare head and "windy" hair it is to be. Though i may sculpt a watcher to hold the helmet. Biohazard
Just a suggestion but why not try and use maybe the Valten model or something similar from WHFB to base the bare head from and just sculpt some new hair? Great looking progress Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1531039 Share on other sites
Korloth Darkwolf
I have done a bit of work on a head to get a feel for what i could possibly do. It still needs a bit of cleaning up. My missus siad he looked like He-Man :P Whats the general concession. Helmet or no helmet? Flowing mane of hair or short hair? Hubbynz
he looks a million times better with the bare head Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1531509 Share on other sites
Master Incarias
I'm inclined to agree with Hubbynz. The sculpting work on the rest of the model is brilliant, but sorry, the hair doesn't look very good. Kurasuke
I'm inclined to agree with Hubbynz. The sculpting work on the rest of the model is brilliant, but sorry, the hair doesn't look very good. It looks more like Hubbynz is praising the bare head. I think the barehead looks pretty good. Master Incarias
Well, that's what happen when you cheat and jump straight to the most finished pics. :D Lazy me. I actually thought the head was bare first, and got hair later. I think a completely bare head would work better, or if you go over the hair and redo it. It doesn't quite match the brilliant worksmanship on the rest of the model. Does look better than the helmet, though... synapse
i love the lion on the chest! if that ones anything to go by you can resculpt the shoulder pad one to be a lot better! good work Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1532197 Share on other sites
Korloth Darkwolf
@ Incarias - The hair was a rough work to see if it would work. I will redo it as i think it looks much better than the helmeted version. Though i think the 'Lion' needs a mane so no bald heads. @synapse - The shoulder pad was my first attempt at sculpting anything other than the edges of armour and only my second conversion project. (Upto now it been merely swappng bits froms sprues to get the looks i wanted. My first project Krom Dragonblaze in my sig). It turned out a little bigger than i want and a bit too 'nice' looking. So i may do another one. On a side note does anyone know where in the UK i can get a single plastic night goblin model. Im not a WHFB player so dont have access to an odd one. (It has to be an older version-the new ones are smaller. I checked today at the local GW). I have a plan for a Primarch standard Watcher holding his helmet. Korloth Darkwolf
Sorry for the lack of work of updates over the last few days. Work has been progressing though. Here's a picture update: I've started work on the cape. Lots of cleaning and smoothing to do on it. There is cleaning to do all over the model. if you can spot any rough gs please tell me. The right shoulder pad will be cut a little smaller with some chain draped over it. (The small sword stuck to it will become an emblem hanging from the chain. The robe will have some edging detail too. Comments, advice, and criticism as always please. I dont care what you say as i'm using this project to develop my gs skills (something i never did before this model and my space wolf lord) so any advice, pointers etc will be appreciated. Master Toddius
I think hes coming along great. All the detail and work that went into this is insane. I totally disagree about the hair, I think he looks much more realistic and closer to his discription with a mane of hair. Plus, enough with the bald heads in 40k already. Its okay to have hair on a model--its just the initial shock to the system that drives people to cry NO when the majority of models on this forum and other 40k marine forums have all shaved heads. Lets move on from that look already. :D The lion theme is great. The sculpt is better than I ever could do. The balance of details and armor bitz is coming along nice. I also like the fact that hes calm and cool. Supreme confidence in his own ability and his troops. I think if anything I'd enhance his feet. Give him more detailed boots. Maybe dress them up like 2nd ed devestator boots. Great work so far. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1540997 Share on other sites
AkiraCho
i think the sculpt is good but his proporitons seem very very off. arms too long head doesnt seem right and so on and so foreth Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1541009 Share on other sites
daemonclaw
very good :D one crit is you might want to sand down the fingerprints off the front of the cape edge before painting as it will probably show up badly Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1541011 Share on other sites
Korloth Darkwolf
@ Master Toddius - Cheers for the praise. I've spent about 60 hours on this so far (though to be fair a lot of that work has since been shelved as this was the 4th body i did.) I only hope my painting does it justice, though i will be taking my time. @AkiraCho - It must be the angle of the picture throwing things off as his arms reach the middle of his thigh (same as mine do) and he is scaled against a marine and a terminator to keep the proportions right. As for the small head, he's wearing bloody big armour :( @Deamonclaw - The cape is getting another work on once its set a bit. The gs is still very soft in that picture. Terminus Est
As Akira\ Cho said, in those last pics the proportions with regards to his legs do look a bit out.. That said this is an amazing sculpt and could provide the inspiration I need to upgrade my green stuff skills a little bit:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1541071 Share on other sites
Korloth Darkwolf
I've been looking at the pics trying to see where the problem with proportions are. Its looks fine in the flesh when compared next to a tactical marine for scaling. However, I dont want the first thought on the finished article to be "he's a bit gorilla looking!" His waist is behind the lion's jaw. The lower jaw of the lion is on his belt buckle. The ropes with the DA symbols on them are loosely hanging around him, but below his waist and in front of his crotch so to speak. This could be throwing the look off I suppose. I'm really oppsed to cutting him up at present as i think he looks right. There are a lot of details to be cleaned up and possibly redone but size wise i think he's there. Also his boots are going to get a bit of work on them. Keep the comments coming though folks as there are all read and looked at. Dark-Storm-01
Love the minis, even though Dark Angels aren't my bag - brilliant. Maybe you could do a tutorial on how you go about making the over cloak (the hanging robe stuff covering the legs) etc - I would like to learn from all of you people who can GS. Korloth Darkwolf
Thanks for the praise and advice guys. Will be doing a bit more tonight. I didnt think my work would be considered good enough for a tutorial but if I get enough people ask I might do one. I would need to do another one with lots of pictures on another marine. i've just bought myself a little present to go with my jonson model which will be lavished with an even higher level of detail. im thinking DA symbols sculpted around weapon muzzles, carved murals and litanies to the panels etc. Full on DA iconography. I might even attempt DA symbols on the tracks instead of imperial eagles. Anyone got an decent names or ideas for Jonson's personal Baneblade? The WIP will be coming soon (well as soon as i finish this model, and any other project that i have on the go at the moment) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1541532 Share on other sites
Invictus_BA
Anyone got an decent names or ideas for Jonson's personal Baneblade? The WIP will be coming soon (well as soon as i finish this model, and any other project that i have on the go at the moment) I like your work. Looks very clean and the cape is lovely. While im not sure if ilike the vanity of him wearing a ton of lions it does work. Hair looks very characterful and i love the face you picked. As for the baneblade name suggestions, i dont have one but whatever you do dont go with the unforgiven crap. Its before it happened so it should be something proud and simple like the hammer of caliban or some such. Cheers Jeff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/130913-lion-eljonson/page/2/#findComment-1541776 Share on other sites
