Great sculpting work - I think the head looks great with the windswept hair look.

How do you manage to flatten your GS into sheets (for the cloak etc.)? Ive been trying to find a way to produce flat sheets of GS but generally whatever I flatten onto, no matter how wet it was initially, has stuck to the GS by the time its had a chance to cure a bit, or when I try to remove the GS it stretches loses its shape. I'm sure I must be missing a simple trick here, but if you can enlighten me it would be much appreciated.

Keep up the good work,

My method for capes: (Not gospel so dont treat it as such)

I use a ceramic tile with a thin coat of water on it. I then have a special and extremely cunning tool i devised.

The handle of the smallest knife in my set is an aluminium rod about 1/4" in diameter and about 4" long. I make this wet and use it as a rolling pin (with the blade removed obviously) to roll out the gs ball to the about 4-5 mm thick.

I then use a wet paint scraper (its got a big flat blade) and slowly lift the gs up like a pizza base. Once its up I put more water on the tile and turn the gs over. I then repeat the rolling until its about 1-2mm thick.

I then lift it again with the scraper and water down the tile again.

Then i cut it to shape with a sharp wet blade. (I use aluminium foil for templates instead of paper as it can get wet without falling apart and is a bit easier to shape than paper)

Once its cut i lift it off again and water down the tile again.

Then i leave the gs on the tile for about 20 mins but lift it once or twice with the scraper so it doesnt stick.

After about 20-30 mins i lift it with the scraper and then use a colour shaper to push the edge into place. Then I use wet fingers to slowly prod it into

shape. trying to touch it as little as possible.

I try to make the cape rest on parts of the model so that the weight is not hanging into free space. If its heavier you could put a wire through it but i havent ever done that.

Its not a method i've tried and tested on many models (its been done on this one like this and a simpler way on the previous model - though that was a fur cloak so i could cover up any rough marks!)

Sorry its long winded but i worked for me. :)

I feel the model is almost at the stage where i can show it some paint.

Still to do:

Left hand holding MC Bolt Pistol (I know its a bolter but a BP looked tiny.)

Almost all the detail on the sword (Its magnetized so i can get painting while i finish this)

Little bit on the pack around the DA shield.

Base (will leave till the end but have no ideas yet. Though i feel it should be quite plain.)

Boots (similiar to the old metal devastators)

Watcher with Lion Helm - though this may be done at a later date.

Comments, critique and advice please.

omg, fantastic, but..... maybe you could make a helmet bearer or something, because i liked the helmet too :)

great work.

and the personal baneblade idea? use some special Dark-angels icons from FW, and get the end of the barrel of the battlecannon, lascannons, and HB's as lion-heads. ow, and maybe make another head of the lion, and letit come out above the tank with instead of the pintlemounted stormbolter arms, another arm with the lion's bolter.

but those are just ideas.

great work, absolutely

Looks nice so far - you can work a tad on the smoothness of gs , by applying very thin strips of it onto the areas where it doesn't look smooth - you can also use rubber brushes to smoothen the gs a tad (and remember to use water while working with gs) :) As for now, looks very good!! Keep it up :)

I must agree that I do not like the helmet, but the rest is marvelous

to check that you have left "fingerprints" in the GS..

people are gonna know it's you, so you'd better get m off :)

my only thing is the helmet...I don't really like it

where is it from anyway??

pz good job !!

you've inspired me to do a similiar job on my assault squad..

I havent fell of the face of the planet or anything but i have been working on the model. He's had drastic cut in half (a falling bed tried to argue with him) so it gave me the excuse to redo some of the bits I'm not happy with and to sort out his proportions. Hopefully I will be in a position in a few days to post new pictures.

It looks a bit busy....

Like alot actually.

You might want to think about that before you paint it.

I suggest that you break up some of the more complex parts and paint them separately. Or simplify the over all design....

One last thing.... the right arm with the sword looks like it's gunna fall clean off if a fly lands on it.

gjkthnx

@ demenhoth - he model was in 6 parts to allow painting but due to a bed accident is now being redone. I'll post a pic later today of the model as it was after the accident.

@ WingsoftheFalcon - the sword handle is being redone with a proper DA style pommel and new hilt. Also the blade is being cleaned up. I've hade to redo a lot. He got crushed literally.

I think he should have longer hiar, i kinda see him with really long hair, abit of a pretty boy...

*no offence to the lion*

if you are going to have a helmet, make sure you use the right helm!

I personally would use the one the helm bearer is carrying and jazz it up abit

Overall I think it looks ace

first sculpt I've seen of him

good work (Y)

As for the bed accident an divan base was being moved fromone fothe kids bedrooms and my daughter tried to climb it ina mad moment. The base tipped over (it was stood on its end) and landed on my painting table causing no end of issues.

Short story is the models left legs was sheared off at the knee, the chest plate was squashed, the bolter arm snapped and the sword got bent.

So he is currently under rebuilding (cue silly sounds and random 6 million dollar man phrases). I may have just revealed my age there!

Well i'm hoping the new sculpt is better. Have invested in some clay shapers and done a few practice pieces. Also for those interested in the baneblade i am working on it now and will post soem decent pics when i have something worth showing.

i've just moved house so i just have to remember which box it was in!

*drools*

you just inspired me to spiff up my Chapter Master for my DIY Chapter. He's gonna be in termie armour and he's gonna be a head taller than the others and with really ornane termie armour. Im just not so good with GS. :)

too bad about the bed though. We feel your pain.

Sorry to hear your initial sculpt ended up a bit worse for wear! Im very intrigued to see what revisions you've made to the figure.

As others have posted before, your green stuff skills are very good, and seem to be improving with each additional sculpt.

I can understand why some posters felt the proportions of your previous sculpt might have been out. I've been studying the sculpt for a little while this evening, trying to pinpoint the location of the problem, as i do not believe it is with the length of the arms, legs or torso, as other posters have suggested.

I would suggest that the positioning of the arms, especially the right arm needs to be adjusted ever so slightly, it looks as though his arm has been nearly chopped off and is hanging on by ligaments. I would also suggest that the collar bone and shoulder area needs to be made ever so slightly narrower.

On my marine models the shoulder paldrons not only cover the top of the arm, but extend to cover part of the chest as well. On the above model this is not happening. Perhaps adjusting this will help to solve some of the proportional issues other posters are seeing?

I hope I have been of some use to you, and look forward to seeing the results of your work
