my version of a reaver titan or better: wolflord-titan

BobPanda

Recommended Posts

i started working on the section between hip and leg.

like wiplash already noticed the left leg isn't biuld that far as the right one, yet. ... = next i'll do is to equal them from a construction point of view.

afterwards i'll reinforce the legs upper section and add some armor to the section with the long white tubes. ...

.

because i was often asked where my ideas come from, or how my concept when building looks like ... i'd like to share the last 45 minutes with you ....

-

as promised i started adding armor to the upper leg section.

the armor shouldn't become more massive than the already existing one, protecting the lower leg. further is should stay in line with the idea to keep the armor as light as possible. and not to forget the tubes and mecahnism behind shouldn't be covered completely or at least stay visible from certain angles. ...

.

so i started and build a frame with 4 different kinds of armor to choose from ...

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w313/BobPanda/neuerlaeufer/DSCN1530.jpg

.

finaly i decided to use the 2nd variant. ...

.

...

than i glued the frame without armor to the leg ...

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w313/BobPanda/neuerlaeufer/DSCN1532.jpg

-

now i realized this ugly gap between the defilerparts right on top of the frame ...

.

i took one of my defilercanons, cut the canon from the mount and attached a imperial tank wheel on both sides ...

because there where once the canon was, now there was a whole i mounted a searchlight right in the same position ...

(i realy love the idea of this beast walking on the battlefield and illuminating the enemy lines with the light of the emperor .. <_<

Incredible work, BobPanda... one of the most impressive projects I've ever seen :D One tiny nitpick on your latest update... From the angles you've shown, it looks like the upper leg armour would be in danger of grating against the lower when the Titan walks.

...not, of course, that I could come near to bettering your design :)

Love the searchlight... I can picture the Emperor's foes trying to shield their eyes from the blinding glare, then the blood draining from their faces as they realise those lights are only mounted on the hips of this beast, and that it just keeps going up =P

Awe-inspiring stuff. I caan't wait to see this behemoth finished.

Ave atque vale.

damn... the amount of effort you've put into this project is just beyond words. As of right now I have to say I like your leg structure a lot better than the forgeworld version. looking forward to seeing it done.

wow...I must say I wasn't absolutely sure if you could duplicate the leg completely, but I can't see any mistakes...fantastic work Bobpanda!

Do you have any sketches about the chest/face ? If you can make them as good as the legs then I'm sure its going to be better than the FW one as Hellknight said ;)

keep up the great work!

here are 2 more showing how it could look when everything comes together ...

.

but don't panic .... i won't leave the lego there ... it makes it just much more easy to build at least the concept with e.g. lego ...

is the back leg glued?????

cos if not i think just about the coolest thing you could do to the base would be to have him stamoing on a vehicle or squad of somekind! maybe thousand sons  good old SW

i know i quoted myself but as you can detach the left leg i presume you could put a vuhicle underneath it!

it is definatlely coming together amazingly

ok two reccomendations:

i'd heighten that torso a little looks a little too much like a warhound how it is, need to make it look hench!

would you be able to make the eyes glow red!

other than that it looks uber

and i'm sure there is more uberness to come

PS do the legs still move?

I love it, but I think it would look better if there was a torso between the legs and the head. Really enjoying seeing this being created keep up the good work man :D

no ... i needed to glue them in their final position to achieve a firm stand.

.

hmmm i thought about your request to put something crushed under the left foot ....

but the problem is that i want to keep the base as unspecific regarding any enviroment or enemy as posible.

hmmm .... but maybe something neutral like a riun or a crushed building or something ... - hmm i'll see ....

.

but the ideas realy good ....

last night i wasn't able to sleep pretty good so i got up to fetch myself a glass of water. while sitting in my room i tried some other posible torsoformats. doing so, regarding your suggestions i found another possible concept that imho has real good potential to turn out great:

as you've said i could make the torso higher and therfore the titan itself more upstanding. the result would be a much more human looking shape and a head thet would definetifely need to look down, which imho makens it look some kind if angry and dangerous. - which is good.

the only problem would be, that this would make it even bigger, harder to transport and at the moment i have no good ideas how to fill the space between hip and shoulders ... ....

...

maybe i'll build a lego-concept first and show you what i'm talking about .... ;)

well this may sound stupid but couldn't you make the torso out of lego and attach plasticard and details to it!

wouldn't that be a bit to easy ?! ... :P

-

just kidding ...

the idea itself is a good one and the technis propably more often applied as many results might let assume the spectator ....

to be honest this technique suits perfect for models without to much breakthroughs, interia or curved surfaces. when continueing working on my stormbirds i will use it fur sure. but for the titan i decided to reduce the lego frame -if used here and there- to a minimum.

more like this? ...

damn in such a configuration this this woul easily reach 60cm ... lol ... that's about 16cm taller than the actual fw-reaver. in other words: that would be closer to a warlord, than to a reaver ... :P

While that would be getting on for Warlord size yes, I'd say you've still got a few centimetres/scale metres to play with.

But if you decided not to build up a significant torso that's fair enough because I don't think it needs it. You could mount the head closer to the legs and build that area up in a similar vein to the FW models. From a practical fluff perspective what would be the advantage of giving a Reaver titan a torso; the power supply isn't fitted inside, it doesn't need extra crew space and the necessities for the guns takes up the arms and all the other space.

Which brings me to one quick thing, from a practical standpoint (I know, the horror of using real world physics in 40k) what would be the point of mounting such a large main weapon to the head section? It's not as mobile and independent as an arm, it messes around with what the crew can look at and what they can shoot at, and it means the crew have less room because it's all taken up by the gun and ammunition. Not to mention the extreme close proximity of several tons of explosives sat right by the crew's legs.

I would personally mount them to the chassis, but that's just me, either way it's a great model so far.

Practicality and physics...you're all over it.

But for awesomness and rocking faces, it rules. lol
