Chaos vs tau

Recommended Posts

With tau i use lots a fair amount of vehicles. (5 rhinos and a dread. rarely do they all get destroyed.) If you do use tanks, hug terrain like theres no tomorrow. Like Roultox said, make sure 25% of the board is covered with terrain. Try to guess your opponents moves for when you should pop smoke. ive made the mistake of thinking my tanks were out of sight and saving my smoke only to have my tank punished in his next turn. Against tau, smoke lauchers and terrain are your best friends.

But try to get into combat as fast as possible. I dont advise trying to engage the tau in a firefight unless you are very confidant you will win. If you can engage a good portion of their infantry, they will crumple pretty quickly. Oblits work fairly well as do 3-man combi-melta termie squads. Definately DS the termies but im still not sure if its better to DS the oblits or have them shooting from turn.

Not sure if any of the tau players yall fight use the railgun submunition shot, but its better to make sure your models are spaced out anyway. Its not AP 3 but a pie plate still hurts.

Flamers will earn their points back many times over if your local tau player like using vespids or kroot. Plasma cannons take out sniper teams pretty quickly. But for the J-S-J problem, i try to corner their unit near the end and force them into combat.

This stuff has worked for me and good luck fighting the tau.

Hi all.

Recently I have been having alot of games with a friend who plays Tau. Hes a tourny player, and knows how to get the best out of his army, and plays it very effectivly. I, on the other hand, am not. Mostly I play for fun, try to use my army well, but tend to get beaten a fair bit. And its rather depressing when you have you behind kicked 5 times in a row by the same army list.

He plays in 1500pts:

-Shaso and bodie gaurds, all tooled with gun/sheild drones and target locks/multi trackers and a variety of weaponry(from flamers to plasma rifles to fusion blaster). Always deep-strikes.

-Single suit with T/L fusion blasters.

-Hammer-head with rail gun, smart missiles and the move 12" and shoot all upgrades.

-Fish o' Fury team

-2 12 man F/W squads with markerlights

-4 piranah

-single sniper drone team.

For being a tourney Tau player, that's sure not the list I'd want to run.

Unless he's using fusion-piranhas, he's awful light on anti-vehicle firepower, so you *could* make that Rhino rush work.

I'd bring a big squad of Raptors, kitted to slaughter MEqs, and a 10-man Havoc squad with 4 heavy bolters. Raptors are playing possum, laying in wait for that 500-point HQ to drop in, then they assault it after the Havocs thin it down. Also, that DS template is a big target for Oblit-plasma fire.

Stay outside 24" of his Hammerhead, and snipe at it to keep him honest (Autocannons are your friend for this, you're only going to glance anyway, might as well have more chances to do it). Try to do the same thing to his Devilfish (because he's not really set up for Fish of Fury with only ONE DFish)

Havoc squad can also lay into any FW squad that they can draw LOS to, and/or the Piranhas, whichever is more pressing to you that turn.

The solo Crisis needs to get really close to hurt vehicles, and is almost worthless against troops. Bring NO vehicles your next game, and you just eliminated a couple hundred points of his units from the game, without killing a single model of his.

You can still shoot while pinned, so don't stress that Sniper team. Just try to stay out of it's Line of Fire.
