iron warriors

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I normally stick to praising the skull throne but I have wanted to make a undivided army and have my ideas split between word bearers and iron warriors. After converting up a Dark Apostle (which I did under the old codex) and I will paint him I decided to go with the siege masters. Now the pending leigon codex might get me excited about WB again but until then I want to make IW.

I want to use the normal list and my plan is blocks of CSMs for a gun line backed up by vindicators. I also plan on some IW beserkers for when I need to get into cc. Is this a good idea? It keeps it fluffy but gives me some options. Or should I go mobile and rhino mount them?

Both options - a gunline army as well as a mobile infantry force - work well, depending on what you're facing. Traditionally (as in, fluff-wise), the Iron Warriors are more of a siege force, utilizing heavy artillery to pound the enemy, then making lightning advances. To best reflect this, I'd go with a two-part force: one backed up by heavy artillery (Defilers are pretty much all we've got at the moment in the "artillery" category) and including heavy weapon-toting squads and Havocs; and a second force of mechanized infantry and Berzerkers (maybe even a squad of Iron Warriors with shields and thicker armour [Plague Marines]) with a couple of Vindicators moving in an armoured spearhead.

But that's just my take on it, I could be wrong.

Yes IWs use to get Khorne Bezerker & if you check the Index Astarties book you will see them in the background. I would possible op for a Rhino for mobilty & get those Bezerker to counter attak when need be. But then again 5th Ed is coming out. I say right now go Rhino. Possible have a few other squads in Rhino to help support the Bezerker along with the vind tank.

I was thinking of combining the batallion and the army for a good solid fire base of csms, and beserkers along with a rhino. I also get termies, a lord and a few other things. Is this a good idea? It gets me everything i think i need minus a vindicator or two. Any thoughts

how efficient do you want the list to be ? the new dexs works really well with IW and BL . 2/3 rhino squads some oblits , 2x3 termis and you have a nice army to play with .

Soooo, is that 10 man squads with twin assault weapons or single hvy and single assault?

I usually like the twin assault weapons, and keep the hvy weapons on oblits only, but that's me now. :P
