Asmodeus' Swordhand
I've started this art thread here so that I could share some of my art, and hopefully learn some stuff too. I'm twelve and I started drawing marines about four months ago, and as you can see, I've still got a lot to learn. If anyone has any tips, techniques, or criticism, they are totally welcome to share. It would also be great if anyone would point out to me if my artwork gets too cartoony or stylized, because I have accidentally been straying off the path of realism lately. I realize I still need to work on my shading(I paint my drawings like my models - shade the recesses and highlight raised edges) but I am horrible at imagining light sources. I've started sketching out some marines, some of which I may colour( if I actually have the perseverance to finish) so without further ado, here they are: My Hacky-nore - alright I guess. :D My alpha legionaire - it doesn't have to be alpha legion you know. Say something and I might change it. He WILL have a head eventually too. C&C anyone? Asmodeus' Swordhand
well so much for finishing the others, here's another: took me 'bout an hour. I drew some ground after scanning it and that helps a lot. I'm too tired for a servo harness today though. Miniman
The Alpha Legionnaire you've got there is the most dynamic, which looks AWESOM ;) . The others are a little solid, which makes them uninteresting. But other than that, nice man. The Techy also looks good, but I have to ask whats with the closed fist on some of them? Â Again, keep it up man, and I wan to see alpha legionnaire finished! Asmodeus' Swordhand
Here is another... last one today cuz I'm all drawed out it is not that good, i did it in like 10 minutes @ Miniman: the closed fist is easy to draw, but doesn't look as crap as a limp arm hanging by side. it also doesn't require me to rotate the shoulderpads at all, which is helpful. The legs on the legionaire are inspired by the Khârn artwork, and I agree, they are very dynamic. fun to draw too. solid snake drive
How did you get the drawing on the comp? Do you just scan it on the printer or what? Sorry if I sound so noobish. Asmodeus' Swordhand
@ White Crusader: I got a scanner for it. You can get one at like london drugs (here in canada) for $100 cdn. :) Edit: some progress here: it'll be iron warriors I think. this one will be really fun to colour. it'll help me with learning my metalics. Brother Plasticard
Personally knowing you, I will be a little harsh... ...then again, personally knowing you (and your entourage) means I should probably gentle... ...so I will be blunt with my review and call it quits before I get (insert violent verb). Â The IW is looking sick, especially the loincloth! I would also give the IW some bigger shoulderpads, and maybe a servo harness (that means give him an traitor AE axe). The marine with the foreshortening is good, however his back foot is out a little too much and he looks a little shaky kneed. That said, I would probably bring it in a little more to be more parallel with the foreshortened leg, and add more perspective to it (i.e. make the back foot further away, back bottom leg a little closer, back knee even closer, etc.). Â All in all it looks good! Color your pics some more and post them up! Â Cheers! Brother P. Asmodeus' Swordhand
Added a hood, I think it looks okay, I might just trash the whole face: it looks better enlarged, but i'm still pondering getting rid of it. shadow_cleric
nice going, althought imo the arms are a bit small compared to the rest. Â like the sketch and colours! Terminatorinhell
the arms are in correct scale, down halfway the thigh but the head, its a bit too small, just 1mm bigger all around and it'll be fine Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132785-swordhand-talks-with-himself-art-thread/#findComment-1531422 Share on other sites
Asmodeus' Swordhand
personally I like to draw my marines with smaller heads. It makes them look bulkier, and they need it ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132785-swordhand-talks-with-himself-art-thread/#findComment-1531583 Share on other sites
Asmodeus' Swordhand
I have completely finished his mid section from toes to shoulders, and I've finished his left arm. Next up is: right arm, new weapon, and backpack with servo harness. I might add some green lightning effects to the fists if anyone thinks it'll help. so here is update 7: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132785-swordhand-talks-with-himself-art-thread/#findComment-1531608 Share on other sites
Asmodeus' Swordhand
can't decide what to do with markings, squad markings, legion symbol, company symbol etc. i'll leave legion symbol on the left shoulder, and put the squad markings + squad number on the right shoulder. now my questions: Should I give him an elite, HQ, or heavy support symbol on the shoulder? Should I a) place symbol on shoulder over hazard stripes and put company # somewhere else?(if so red symbol or white symbol) b) or place company # and symbol on same shoulder without stripes ? (if so red or yellow) He also needs a better weapon. any suggestions? thanks in advance you can help, The distressed and tau corrupted Swordhand Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132785-swordhand-talks-with-himself-art-thread/#findComment-1533575 Share on other sites

Asmodeus' Swordhand
it becomes obvious I probably won't finish the IW :D here is a sorcerer of tzeentch WIP: too cartoony? too un-mariney? what do YOU think? here are some recent sketches: over the top sorcerer PF Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132785-swordhand-talks-with-himself-art-thread/#findComment-1542013 Share on other sites
Asmodeus' Swordhand
since no one has any ideas about the shoulderpad, i forgot about it and started to work on the servo harness. the front layer of the picture is removed so as to better see the servos(hence lack of detail/outlines) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/132785-swordhand-talks-with-himself-art-thread/#findComment-1542950 Share on other sites
