QuestionableStrategy
I've always liked CSM, and if I were ever able to make an army for one I'd probably go with either Alpha Legion or Iron Warriors. Between my tax return coming in (woohoo), a fresh influz of time on hand (double woohoo!) and the near-enough completion of my Orks and DA: Thought I'd finally give one a go, and after reading Legion the choice of which to make has become all-too-clear. My only question is what everyone thinks I should throw in my army to make it more Alpha Legion-ish? Tips? Tricks? Pointers? Insidious secrets? DeathsHead
I would suggest taking lots of troops, not too much in the Daemonic/mutated vein, and heavily mixing/matching from normal SM sprues. For HQs, both Sorcerers and vanilla Lords seem appropriate. IhateSpaceMarines
Baneblade, Land Raiders, Rhinos, Predators, Vindicators ... Probably not best to invest in Obliterators or Defilers, in light of the recent novel "Legion", i would try and stick away from all the daemonic elements in the chaos army, but theres much debate in this so its really up to you. (Considering the ones in DOW the Alpha Legion had quite a lot of daemons and all that jazz) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/133190-always-win-the-war-before-your-enemy-knows-hes-fighting/#findComment-1535358 Share on other sites
Eetion
Remember that the Alpha Legion isnt just about infiltrate. But their doctrine is to attack from all directions in every conceivable way. Yes infiltrators have their place, but so do armour support and fast troops. The use of the Alpha legions isnt so much the models any more... But what you do with them. Senseilord Ashahara
On account of importance the Alpha Legion gives to self reliance and the free reign given to battlefield commanders I would suggest that, more than most other csm armies, take what fits with your whims and that of your commander. I take 3 different AL forces, lead by three different commanders with different 'personalities' and play the one I feel like playing on the night. But yeah, limited use of daemons and the daemonic where possible. Not just because of Legion but mainly because the Legion opperate well outside the Eye and other such warp/real space overlaps.
