Night Haunter

Recommended Posts

As much as I'd love to see him still being around - kicking loyalist butts and taking names, his personal beliefs and the visions he suffered from ensured that he would not act to preserve his own life.

His very death proved that he was right (from his and his children's point of view) and that was most important to him.

Very true Brother NIhm.

None of the Primarchs has done much lately.

Sure Angron went after Armageddon, Fulgrim kicked Roboute's ass.. Magnus striked a few times at the space wolves..

Mortarion, Perturabo, Lorgar, have done nothing.. at least nothing I can recall.

Too bad, such possibilitys for the fluff with primarchs

Mortarion may or may not even be mobile, given his ascendancy into Nurglehood.

Perturabo proved his point and probably doesn't see a need to do much of anything except fortify daemon worlds and dole out his Legion as siege advisors and subject-matter experts to whomever can afford them.

Lorgar. . .most likely ensconced on Sicarus, etching down prophecy after prophecy in the flesh of some captives while his Dark Apostles spread the Word for him.

These three are pretty well painted into fluff corners, and probably won't rise from their labors to be bothered with the trifles of mortals unless the Eye itself was assaulted en masse.

Well after much consideration, i've dropped the idea he may exist through psychic means of faking his death. If he did do that indeed, then it is an insult to his own creed as in a sense he didn't truly prove his point. So yeah he is dead  .

Yeah, he's a much cooler character in that he allowed himself to be killed in order to prove his point.

The other thing I've noticed is that his final words can be construed to back up both the non-Chaos and Chaosy interpretations of the Night Haunter, with:

"Death is nothing compared to vindication" He has allowed himself to be killed, as this way he gets away with what he did, as death is nothing compared to the punishment he should have received, if you follow his Chaos interpretation.

"Death is nothing, compared to vindication" In this one, fine, he gets killed. So what, everything he did, the genocides in the name of the Emperor, the destruction of Nostromo, is now vindicated, as the Emperor has lowered himself to the same level of savagery to remove him, resorting to simple, brutal violence. The fact that he has been proven right makes up for his death.

As you can tell, I follow the second interpretation. And yes, this makes him so much cooler than the other Primarchs, as who else proved their point so decisively? Horus tried, but was cut down. Konrad Curze? The act of cutting him down was the proof! How do you try to fight against that? If you resist it, you vindicate it, and he wins, if you go along with it, he gets what he was fighting for, so he still wins! Hooray for the Night Haunter!

Lorgar is on Sicarius yes, but there he leads the Council of Apostles which consits of himself and his most trusted and greatest Dark Apostles. And they are the ones who decide everything the Word Bearer Legion does.

(I say Legion since it's granted that there will be at least one or two splinter groups of Word Bearers who most likely don't give a damn about what they say.)

not really . What we know about the WB legion is that anyone who is against the legion [and that included leaving your post , not reporting in time , going cult etc] are hunted down and killed , by special kill teams of different size . the WB have the most rigid structure or all chaos legions out there .

So, you could certainly justify Mortarion being out and about sometimes.

yes only the fluff since then changed more then a bit . No squats , other new races . Other legions then the 4 are not cult etc .

That's interesting. Where is that stated? Can't remember reading anything like that.
