fylth
Hi all ^_^ I currently have a very small army (2 troops of plauge marines, 1 lord, 1 DP [for interchangeable use]) Im not really sure where to go, but I have had a...cunning plan... I was thinking what are nurgle really good at? Well, holding stuff, surviving for a long time, etc etc Now, what would that go good with? Khorne, ofcourse! Each plaugemarine squad is coupled with a Beserker squad. The PMs tie up squads (the Anvil) while the Khorne units finish them with the reall damage (the Hammer). The Nurglies also act as a meatshield, defending their more...err sensitive blood-soaked brethren until they can strike effectivley. Then I thought, how could I continue this idea of unity between the marks for greater effect. How about two lords, one Nurgle, one Khorne, who basicaly double team people with their combined Daemon Weapons. Now tell me the sight of them wouldnt be terrifying lol. I havent checked the ol' Codex, but I think that an army list consisting of - 1x Lord, Mon, DW 1x Lord, MoK, DW 2x Plague Marines squads (+ various wargear, suggestions?) 2x Beserker squads (+ various wargear, suggestions?) 2-4x Havoc Squads (+ vaious wargear, suggestions?) = 1500pts ish? abouts? Any ideas, comments on this kind of list? If it seems good I may invest in the new models lol :D -Fylth Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/134399-hammer-and-anvil/ Share on other sites
Lady_Canoness
It'll work on one condition: If you're opponent has no choice but to charge you. Most players will see the trap right off the bat, and will do anything in their power not to spring it, but if they do spring it odds are that they intended to because they can turn that trap back against you. An Eldar player will likely shoot you to death with Star Cannons and other nasty guns - never touching the anvil. You'd be in dire straights as you'd be forced to walk towards them - slowly - under incredible fire, until they just picked/ripped your army appart. Sure Havocs can shoot back, but without any mobility on your side they'll exploit fire-angles. You need to rethink this one. Mobility is a must. Cadian16th
I actually use a tactic slightly similar to this in my own army. However, instead of Berzerkers, I use Noise Marines. I've found that it is so much more useful than berzerkers because it forces your opponent to either 1) stay out of CC and get shot all to hell, or 2) charge into CC with the PM, then get counter charged by the I5 NM. Going into more detail, you can even have the Noise Marines in front if the army is more CC oriented and they won't be in too much danger from shooting, then when the enemy gets within ~12", move them back (still firing more effectively than normal marines) and move the PM squad(s) up to the front rank. Also, with regard to mobile heavy weapons, oblits are your friend :pinch: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/134399-hammer-and-anvil/#findComment-1547413 Share on other sites
davidren2401
I feel that trying to use chaos to beat mech eldar is a bit like trying to use paper to beat sissors. You can use any colour/variation of paper you want, at the end of the day, you lose. Keep your army focused on MEQ busting with one or two units that can multi-task (decking those havocs out with autocannons would be a start). Your hammer and anvil tactic is pretty sound but if you're looking for some I5 counter-assault units try normal CSMs with the Icon of Slaneesh. Noise Marines are more expensive because they have the option of buying nice toys, so if it's just the I5 you're after better to go with the Icon. If you're just looking for the I5, I agree, but the reason for taking Noise Marines is to make the opponent make a difficult decision, stay out of CC and take 3 bolter shots at 24" per marine with a missile blast thrown in for fun, or charge and take the FC. I don't know many people who would stand and take a full salvo from 2 squads of NM each turn. And the great thing is, if your opponent tries to run away, NM give you the option of chasing him with your entire anvil and still being able to shoot twice at 24"! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/134399-hammer-and-anvil/#findComment-1547962 Share on other sites
