Chaos Terminator Lord

It was my birthday yesterday and I got for present Chaos Terminator Lord. And I just don't know what to do! So many options...

I am in 40k universe for quite some time, but i have never assembled any models or painted them. Just played a couple of times. I've just been reading the background of all the races and am particularly interested in Horus Heresy, but nvm that. Since I opened the box of the mini, it was just great. So many possibilities for assembling and customization.

So what I want to ask is this: What kind of Chaos Lord is effective? Which weapons to take? What do you use? Which paint job of traitor legions is fairly simple? (since I've never painted and would very much like to do so) Any general advice is appreciative.

I do not have the Codex, but I could fairly easily borrow one.

Thanks in advance. :)

Well by your signature, you like Khorne :), world eaters are quite simple to paint however the best build i think for a khorne terminator lord is twin lightning claws as the daemon weapon has a 1/3 chance of not attacking and causing you a wound, and I'm not sure if the TL/LC are in the box.

But, Iron warriors are also easy to paint, the undivided Daemon weapon is excellent with +1 strength and +d6 attacks.

But to be honest, i think its best to go with the legion you like the most and practice if their paint scheme is complex, shouldn't be too hard as most of the original founding legions have a simple color scheme thats quite easy to paint basically.

GW painting guide

Theres also a lot of stuff in the B&C painting section in terms of tutorials for each legion so a quick search there would probably help.

In terms of loadout, daemon weapons as a whole are very good, i personally dont like the nurgle or the khorne one, mainly because what the nurgle one does the slaanesh one generally does better, and the khorne while great fun when it works, will only work about a third of the time.

Lightning claws are a good bet too, rerolling wounds, they also look really cool, but dont overlook a power weapon and a combi weapon, its cheap and quite effective.

Thank you for the reply.

And no, I'm not a Khorne fan :).

How much colors do I need for, say Word Bearers?

Word Bearers are a deep red with silver trim, so you'd need the red, silver, black, and yellow (For the Legion symbol). You might also want colors for the base, as well as colors for highlights on the model, like orange, gold, and white.

My vote for easiest legion to paint "easy" - Iron Warriors. Black basecoat, silver drybrush, paint a few details, done.

There are a few ways you could go with the terminator lord. You could search online for some tiny rare earth magnets, and swap his options around from game to game.

If you're having him ride a land raider, it's hard to go wrong with twin claws.

If you're deep striking him, consider making him a sorcerer instead of a lord, so that he has something significant to do offensively on the turn he lands. A sorc with wind of chaos in a termie unit that includes a heavy flamer can do some real damage on an icon-assisted deep strike, and still has a force weapon to lay the smack down in subsequent melee combat.

If you want a crozius, i think i have like 3 dark apostles that i have, ill try to post pics...

But if you want to make a crozius, all you really need is a big staff, and include a big mace-like ball on top of it. For one of my apostles i used the terminator lord set (just like you have) and i equipted him with the staff. I cut off the top of the staff (the part with the star and the eye in the middle) and I used the mace bit (from the chaos termy set) and i cut off the mace top and glued it onto the staff for the termy lord. After that i trimmed it up and added a <DELETED BY THE INQUISITION>load of spikes to make it look more chaosy. I should be able to post pics soon....

If you are IW you get Iron Fathers instead, they are tech marines that have an almost religious significance if I remember right.

Ummm, you must be thinking about Iron Hands, the loyalists. They're the "good" bionic nuts of the 41st millenium, and they're the ones with the Iron Fathers. The Iron Warriors, we have WARSMITHS!!! (which sounds a lot cooler too)

If you want straight up ease of painting, Black Legion is definitely the easiest and by far. All you do is spray prime black, paint the trim silver or gold, paint the eyes, paint the horns, and perhaps highlight the armor with gray. Iron Warriors are not hard, but harder than BL as the process (at least for me) goes prime black, drybrush bolgun metal, paint trims, horns, etc, highlight mithril silver, wash with black ink. Again not hard, but it requires the extra steps of drybrushing over the basecoat and then inkwashing to keep it from being too shiny (I guess you could use a NMM technique to negate the need of ink but I'm nowhere near that talented).
A lot of replies, wow, thanks. You really got me thinking. Since I am a n00b at this kinda things, this helps very much. If I wanted to make a Dark Apostle, could I maybe (since I do not know how to convert, or any kind of that thing) glue the book you got on the sprue over the stupid eye on the staff, and gave it a word bearer look?
