High Marshal Pallantides
Hey all, I am a nutter! What I thought would take a long time didn't! Here are a couple of Scout WIP's for your thoughts, critiques and comments! Here he is: http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb293/Chappy_P/WIP/IMG_1616.jpg Scale shot with my True Scale Marine: http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb293/Chappy_P/WIP/IMG_1618.jpg Basically, I used the normal marine legs w/green stuffed pants (trousers for you British types =D), then normal Scout torso, head and arms. I did add normal marine shoulder pads to beef his upper torso a bit. I also added/will add about .75mm of drag queen plasticard under his feet for a bit more height. I am unsure about the arms currently...I might try a mock up with normal Marine arms and see how it looks...I'll let you guys be the judge! So I am curious as to your thoughts? Please let me know! lord_bunny
cool, reminds me of the scouts in obvious tactics, with their armour looking more like stripped down marine armour than bulked IG armour we see all the time. and thats for the words translation there :) I already knew that issue, but on a glance other (slower ;) ) members could be, ahem confused. Ironblood
I hate you, I really do. Thanks to you, I am poor now and have a ton of greenstuff work to do. :) On a more serious note, I love to work man, you have inspired me to have a go at a small "true scale" army. (Where do you get your bits? It cost me as much as 2 normal tactical squads for the bits I needed to make 5 big marines) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/135655-true-scale-marine-by-chappy-p/page/4/#findComment-1668353 Share on other sites
vahouth
You are not planning to use any terminator models in ur army, am i right? But if u do, what are you going to do with the scale, since they're supposed to be taller than normal marines? Also i would keep in mind that now that the models are bigger, they need a more refined painting than usual, and imho the eagle breast plate should be gold or brass (something not right with red... ;) ) By the way excellent work!!! :D :tu: Looking forward to see more! High Marshal Pallantides
@Lord_Bunny: Thanks for the reply! I like to think of scouts as slowly getting all their armor over time, slowly trying to figure out how to get used to it, etc., etc. It's one of the reasons I decided to go with the stripped down Marine look rather than the bulked out IG look. @IronBlood: Sorry! I blame Doghouse, Sheep and Synapse for my fall! Honestly I just love the idea behind true scaling. I had a squad done with another method of true scaling, but it took forever to do a marine. Now I can do them in no time. The scout above took less than 30minutes to do! As for here I get my bits, I'll let people know when I fix my bit issue with the place I ordered from. Depending on the resolution with determine whether or not I give a good review and recommendation. Plus I had 2 boxes of Terminators lying around when I decided to work up the nerve to do this project. And in some ways it will be a wash when it comes to money as I had a ton of bits lying around in the first place. The scouts will cost me next to nothing as I bought 5 or so boxes for an IG project. @Vahouth: I might do Terminators, in which case they would be more extensive conversions. I found some half round molded lengths of plastic, so my plan would be to cut the terminator legs mid thigh, Green stuff them like I have done with the marines, put down lengths of the half round plastic, possibly bulk up the feet drag queen style. Finally I would us the normal Terminator torso, but widened with plasticard. Sounds complicated, but I think it can work. I'd make them a hair taller than the normal mark armor. My question is, How does the scout look? Does he look to scale? Does he look good? Please let me know and I appreciate all the replies I have received so far! Thanks, Chappy P! Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that a space marine scout cannot wear power armor unless he has the black carapace installed. Then he is counted as a full space marine. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/135655-true-scale-marine-by-chappy-p/page/4/#findComment-1668436 Share on other sites
Patrick O)))
Really stoked by this project ;) looking really good, and you're using a method I stumbled upon myself from true-scale PA! It's a relief to know it looks so good before I get too much further into it My priority us currently a true-scale terminator. Terminatorinhell
by the way the scout is fine just the way he looks, don't bulk up the feet it just will look strange. I too fell into the vortex of Doghouse's true scaling (all of my chaptermaster's forms are huge almost INQ sized). Ironblood
The scout looks ok I think, what does it look like without the power armor shoulders? High Marshal Pallantides
@IronBlood: Here's a shot without Marine Shoulder pads. http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb293/Chappy_P/WIP/IMG_1620.jpg The only thing I don't like is without the pads, he seems bottom heavy, but with the pads he doesn't. Plus I can get deathwatch pads from online sources to help with the army...if I do the inquisitor route. Thoughts?? Thanks, Chappy P! Alpha PTP
The only thing I don't like is without the pads, he seems bottom heavy, but with the pads he doesn't. Plus I can get deathwatch pads from online sources to help with the army...if I do the inquisitor route. I would just bulk out the arms rather than putting the pads on. Scouts don't normally wear the shoulder pads, and when you put them on it just made him look like a normal, unconverted, Marine. You might want to see what the pads look like on the scout if you remove the edge moulding. That may trim it down a little and give more of the scout feel you're looking for. Just a thought. Great project and great execution though. Looking forward to seeing more. Dorns Padawan
Hey Chappy im good ta mate, good sto see ya on the board again. I like the look of the scouts, please tell me you are gonna attempt TERMIES!!! I have ordered the tools and they should arrive next week. The shop that i got them from only sold the real soft ones and they had to order me in the harder ones. Out of interest, you gonna add anymore GS to the leg greaves to make them look like combat fatigues or are they staying as they are? FuriousFerret
Can I just add a belated "those scouts are bloody amazing!" ? You've solved a problem that nagged me a little, how to avoid comical midget scouts in the presence of true-scale marines. Thanks! My own true-scale efforts will start real soon, and will eventually involve 50 true-scale marines PLUS, thanks to you, some scouts as well. :-) EDIT: we can haz updates?
