Reaper31
Where do they get them from? Every millitary needs ammo, equipment and food to survive. Food is fairly easy to come by I would asume (synthesised, rats, ship-slime, daemonic beasts hunted on daemon worlds, slaves etc), and equipment would need replacing all that often (in the fluff anyways) as the techmarines/ chaos equivalent could repair broken stuff etc. But what about Ammo, tanks, armour plating etc? Where do the renegade chapters and chaos legions get theirs? They can no longer rely on the adeptus mech, so do they make it themselves? do they rely on loot from imperial shipping lanes? Or cooler yet, are there Dark Mechanicus forge/daemon-worlds that produce vast quantities of ammunition and arcane machines of war? Is there anything in the background fluff that gives a clue as to where the traitor forces supplies come from? I ask as I would like to address the issue in my armies background, and thought it might make a nice discussion topic. Thanks, Reaper31 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/135676-renegadelegion-supplies/ Share on other sites
Brother Nihm
Or cooler yet, are there Dark Mechanicus forge/daemon-worlds that produce vast quantities of ammunition and arcane machines of war?Is there anything in the background fluff that gives a clue as to where the traitor forces supplies come from? Ahh but there is, remember that over half the adeptus mechanicus turned to Horus during the Heresy. It's also hinted at in several Legion IA articles that the Legions trade their services for material wealth and power (guns, artifacts, pacts?). In Dark Mechanicus (the novel) the Techpriests possess a Forgeworld that reappear from the warp. Then there's the original Legion techmarines who've turned to dabbling in Daemonic engines, like the BL marine who created the Defiler. Not to mention the techno-magi serving the Iron Warriors. Now for a budding traitor chapter it may be hard to get materiel and ammo but with the pecking order established within the eye (and should they choose to follow Abaddon) they will receive what they need by working/trading for it. It may not be mentioned in the fluff directly but, it certainly is there if you look hard enough. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/135676-renegadelegion-supplies/#findComment-1563301 Share on other sites
Deneris
I imagine the newer renegades turn to the time-honored profession of piracy; Hard to imagine your typical transport barge trying to fight off Space Marines and winning. Also, I imagine some Renegade chapters taking their manufactorum facilities with them- most SM fleets have the ability to manufacture ammo and basic supplies. And, of course, I see renegades and Legions raiding each other for supplies; Picture some fresh new band of Renegades finally getting to the Eye only to get mauled/looted by a Legion such as the Word Bearers... davidren2401
You know Star Trek Voyager never would have worked with questions this dangerous being contemplated! That said, the Soul Forges of the Eye of Terror get a healthy page or two of fluff dedicated to them in the new daemon codex. Anyway Dark mechanicus rocked, DEAMON TITAN FTW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/135676-renegadelegion-supplies/#findComment-1564008 Share on other sites
Gideon Bane
There's a large spread in the 4th edition chaos codex about Huron raiding for ships and supplies so that may help some. Reaper31
Ha, I kinda never thought of the marines selling their services out. Makes sense, though I can see some of the older/tougher legions (world eaters for eg.) just barging in and taking what they need. Nihm: About the forge world reappearing from the warp: I love the image that provokes. A poor, hopefully isolated, imperial world going about its buisness....and then BANG... a massive metal and chaos worshipper infested world just appears in-system without cause. The PDF would defecate-themselves. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/135676-renegadelegion-supplies/#findComment-1564180 Share on other sites
x_beowolf_x1
Thats what my current army does, rent itself out to other legions for treasures or artifacts... Corporal_Chaos
I am sure that they also loot the battlefields to get ammo and replacement parts. Also I have to say that pirate activity is probably a mainstay as well as merc trade for the hard to get goods. Brother Evar
In my BL I have Mk 7 + armour to represent the heavy fighting they do around the EOT. Obviously I will take a better bolter or armour than lowly mk 4 as cool as it looks though. Can you just see it? a 10K old marine in Mk7 plate with the most reliable modern astartes weaponry- truely deadly. Part of a soldiers proficency has a lot to do with the quality of their equipment.
