Seahawk
So I was listening to my favorite band the other day, Disturbed, and while listening to a song that I've heard umpteenmillion times, it suddenly clicked that it could apply to the heresy and can describe how the Word Bearers (my Chaos army, interestingly) fell from the Emperor's light and went their own way. I'll write the lyrics below for your contemplation: 10,000 Fists "Deify" All my devotion betrayed I am no longer afraid I was too blinded to see How much you've stolen from me (When the Emperor said "Stop preaching me up as awesome. I spank you now!") You want to know why I feel so horrified? I've let my innocence die You want to know why I can't be pacified? You made me bury something I won't be sleeping tonight (going evil) I only wanted a blessing made Now I've been labeled a renegade It seems so clear now what I must do You're no immortal I won't let them Deify you They view you as the new messiah Deify you Renew belief in some demented man (making dark pacts with the Chaos gods) You want to know why it seems the passion's died? We've all been living this lie You want to know why my will's been fortified? You've made me hunger again Good luck sleeping tonight (the gods of Chaos are coming for you!) Here's a cute little blurb from their debut album The Sickness, "Droppin' Plates" Well fear this, Cause I'm breakin' through the walls of your nightmare Wake up time to die (daemons bursting into reality? perils of the warp!) Can anybody else think of lyrics that are relatable to Chaos? From other bands, haha. Lord_Caerolion
Well, the song "Deify" works for any Traitor Legion, really. When you look at it, it can be taken as the realisation that the Emperor isn't as great as he's being made out to be, in fact he's crud! As for other songs, for a Night Lord one, try Genocide, by Ra. It might be hard for you to find outside of America, but thats what online ordering is for, and I think they have it to download on their site. Still, here are the lyrics: Could it be that it didn’t happen? Could it be that I wasn’t there? I could swear that my eyes were open But there’s nothing at which to stare I remember the people dying Staring blankly into the sky Unaffected and undistracted Redirected to pass them by Cold as steel underneath my broken skin I’m bleeding Forced to feel devastation unto Genocide My reflection sometimes reminds me In the image was I born? Technically I’m enhanced they tell me From their minds my existence torn They don’t know all the hate I’m feeling They don’t see how it breeds inside I’m afraid of the walls around me I’m afraid but I can not hide (Curze's paranoia) Cold as steel underneath my broken skin I’m bleeding Forced to feel while I live through programmed suicide They’ll ask why can’t remember when I started hearing Do or die Devastation unto Genocide There’s a reason that I met you it’s to show me how to die Simplify my own correction Disconnect me where I lie There is conflict all around us There is conflict in my soul Put and end to what’s beginning To make me want to play my role (this whole verse about the assassination of Curze, from his point of view) Cold as steel underneath my broken skin I’m bleeding Forced to feel while I live through programmed suicide They’ll ask why can’t remember when I started hearing Do or die Devastation unto genocide And another Night Lord-ish song by Ra, called Fear. Technically not a song, but the intro for their second album: Fallen Broken Simply dissolved Into an incomplete thought An empty shell Cracked and disfigured With no remorse I have been blinded by the darkness With no distain I have received my punishment And with no haste I await them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/136611-interesting-analogies/#findComment-1574554 Share on other sites
NautiusMaximus
I think Jack the Reaper is a bit Night Haunterish. The maniac killer that stalks at night. Of course all he did was to kill those he saw guilty. We could really use his punishing methods. I've been looking for 40k songs for some time butI can't find any (I know this is Chaos-only but it's the only music topic I've seen around, and good idea it is too). Does anyone know of any 40k songs? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/136611-interesting-analogies/#findComment-1574612 Share on other sites
Gideon Bane
Sophia by the Cruxshadows is one of the best songs ever to describe what it is like to be a loyalist, to have the kind of vast power and responsibility. Lyrics Then there's Suffer Well by Depeche Mode, in my mind it illustrates the struggle of the Dark Angels with making the choice of loyalty. Lyrics Another song by Depeche Mode, "A Pain that I'm Used to", describing the dichotomy between loyalists and traitors to an extent as well as war weariness in an indirect way. Lyrics Then there's what I call the Paladin song, Assemblage 23's "Let me be your armor", it nicely illustrates what Marines are. Lyrics and now time to get myself excommunicated ABBA's Gimme Gimme Gimme fits well with Night Haunter in a very silly way. Drop Lyrics The Cliched Iron Man by Black Sabbath (Iron Warriors/Hands/Necrons) Highway to Hell by Metallica (Night Lords) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/136611-interesting-analogies/#findComment-1574685 Share on other sites
Hally
I only wanted a blessing made (they wanted a blessing from the [to them] Holy Emperor) Now I've been labeled a renegade (this, of course, did happen) It seems so clear now what I must do You're no immortal (SCREW MY OATHS RARHRHARH) I won't let them Deify you They view you as the new messiah (Imperial Cult starting up in heresy era) Deify you Renew belief in some demented man (making dark pacts with the Chaos gods) Added a few more facts :P It is striking how much fits. Odin by Manowar reminds of a fallen hero of some sort (The Emperor and Guilliman comes to mind) (Mind you, the song is pretty slow, [and in my opinion] melancholic and nostalgic.) In the hall of the slain (Imagine him sitting on a throne) Valkyries and heroes attend me (Guards visiting him) Ravens and wolves at my side (Cherubs) Forever they did befriend me (Looking back at his, now lost, old life) I paid an eye for a drink of mead And was given wisdom supreme (Matches pretty good) Granted to me the secrets (Granted by the shamans whom he is a reincarnation of) Of magic, of life and death (Magic as in warp magic) Ah.. Speared hung upside down (After being slain by Horus) Nine days and nights no food nor mead The will to be a sacrifice Of myself unto myself Wisdom and rhyme Sorcery, death living inside me (Now a god, filled with sorcery and death) Of life and death I am king (The King [or Emperor] of Humanity is the true lord of Death, or life) For both do I bring by sword and spear and ring Raise thy weapons on this day Ye shall not die alone Fight and die let Valkyries fly For they shall take thee home I promise thee that on this night Ye shall be by my side (It is said that if you die a honourable death you'll forever sit at the Emperor's side) Asgard's halls await with heroes Brothers that have died (Other people sitting at His side) For thee we wait at Asgard's gates Come join us by our side (Join us, as in, die, as in die for The Emperor) Valhalla waits so choose thy fate For all of us must die! I might be overinterpreting the meaning of this song, but it really reminds me of 40k  What do you think? Contaminus
After the carnage steam rises through snowAfter the carnage steam rises through snow You have been consigned to the Abyss of Woe My eldritch war-suit is pasted with brains This empty feeling - all that remains RED WITH RAGE I abide in the pit of woe Crucified in the Abyss of Woe And for my crime, this is my time My unholy...crime The cycle of torment the pleasure of sin Licking the lap where my load must begin I rode a tide of vengeance that could never be denied Hail the crimson blur - violence has arrived! RED WITH RAGE I abide in the pit of woe Crucified in the Abyss of Woe And for my crime, this is my time My unholy crime The trail of our campaign attracted great scorn But we ventured onward through the Tundra of Tor Soon I had attracted a posse of trolls Who'd grown fat and sloppy from the roasting of souls... But we were surrounded at the Valley of Krin And it was a battle we never could win But still I hacked madly with my back to a wall Heeding the horn of my funeral call The mutilated millions I was born to appall Heads leap from shoulders as they flock the mall The Butcher of Bertok, Infernal Throne Laid waste to usurpers 'till I stood all alone Ripped out guts Gouged out eyes If you kill them They will die RED WITH RAGE Definately World Eaters. It reminds me a lot of Khârn on Skalathrax. Centuries of carnageCenturies of chaos yet unfolding A planet built on bone Spinning in a space Unmolded Armies are arrayed Like toys on tabletops it's almost funny Bodies beat and flayed The sea is red with blood the sky is sunny Immortal! Corrupter! Your entrails are displayed Upon a rack we break the bones within you Your fighters are dismayed and wonder if it is wise to continue To resist my will The babies that I bake fill a volcano I'm clogging up the kill My wretched baby paste requires Drano I'm out of my mind Immortal Corrupter Malignance defined Chew the womb, seal the tomb, leave the dead behind Immortal Corrupter Dagger of the mind The betrayer is enraged His mask is gone his crimson hauberk cloven His brains they are arrayed Amongst the ruin of the lies he'd spoken Immortal! Corrupter! And if I was a sperm I'd consecrate my germ and then continue And if I was a worm I'd find a way that I could crawl up in you Crawl up in you! And if I was a sperm... Immortal! And if I was a worm... Corrupter! If I was a sperm, if I was a germ... I'm out of my mind Immortal Corrupter Malignance defined Immortal Corrupter Dagger of the mind Not sure what that is tbh. It's more generic chaos than any legion in specific. Contaminus
Sorry for double post. Found another interesting song, again by GWAR. Those guys must've taken some inspiration from 40k. Some of the stuff they come out with is too close to be coincidence. For example: Lights fade, all is shadeZombies stalk the promenade This is promise of eternity Piles of dead, impaled head Steaming peat is wretched red They say history is written in such ways Trust in rust, dirt and dust Worms awaiting all of us At least that's what I heard Crows soar, lions roar Chaos rules forevermore The human race is the only X factor The decay of grandeur From riches to rot The decay of grandeur say To have and then have not Kings crouch, the throne is doomed Assassins reach the inner room The jester has become the interloper The Queen is struck, then runs amuck Her carriage wallows in the muck The cemetery was moved indoors The decay of grandeur From riches to rot The decay of grandeur say To have and then have not Some say we have lost our reason Some say we have lost our minds Spinning in the blackest wisdom Coveting the darkest wine I say have your host amongst us And there you tarry for a time All your virtue shall desert you Decaying grandeur, box of pine First the sound, and then the smell Sonorous the eldritch bell Send you to the seven hells in time The decay of grandeur From riches to rot The decay of grandeur say To have and then have not In time, in time, in time, in time...Decay Plague, Ravage, Rot and Death! Man'O'War, Sons of Odin. I really hardly need to point out the parallels :(. Bezerker rage, Gods of war, This day men shall die. Khorne anyone? Black and White
Monition by unearth As our standards fall. Belief and faith dies. It's made it's mark. Now we wander into our final our. Wars. Faith. Failing methods fill the days. Undermine life. Baneful steps that conjure hate. Claiming our lives. Balance fades with every day. A growing cloud. Simple lessons show the way. Fall into void. We stopped listening. Followed our nature. Bound by hatred our lives grow torn. Finding new ways to betray. Claiming the weak. Boundaries crossed with no remorse. Killing ourselves. Forcing dogma overthrown. A new standard waits. Credence in all but one. Our own kind. Are you listening? Now can you feel me? Now are you listening? Now can you feel me? Take one look at our battered existence. This persists in unity as every culture burns and segregates. Wars! Shattered our lives grow torn. Who will save you? Our demise. Stand up it's time to face your day. Regret is such a bitter taste. Such a bitter taste. Regret. Such a bitter taste. Kaptain Von
The Gates of Urizen by Bruce DickinsonAs above, so below All things come from the one Now you are the victim Carried by the wind, rooted in the ground If you want to learn the secrets Close your eyes The ladder falls away At the gates of Urizen Fallen eagles blaze At the gates of Urizen Eternal twins are damned At the gates of Urizen Separate lives begin In every woman is a man From the moon come silver ghosts Spectres of the blood From my spirit comes the darkness From the void, the crimson fortress rises At the gates of Urizen The ladder falls away At the gates of Urizen Fallen eagles blaze At the gates of Urizen Eternal twins are damned At the gates of Urizen Separate lives begin At the gates of Urizen The ladder falls away At the gates of Urizen Fallen eagles blaze At the gates of Urizen Eternal twins are damned At the gates of Urizen Separate lives begin At the gates of Urizen The gates of Urizen The gates of Urizen At the gates... I think those line breaks are right. Anyway, I happen to think the album The Chemical Wedding is very Chaotic, very concerned with hubris and forbidden knowledge, but this is both the most apt for Chaos Space Marines and also the least entwined with Judao-Christian symbol-sets, which kind of damages the reference a bit. DuskRaider
Lamb of God has some great Chaos-like songs and lyrics. Here's some examples: "As The Palace Burns" The fiends have gagged a generation of pacified fools Bound by our greed a nation enslaved as corporate tools. Arise and raze the legacy of their lies To realize that this in itself is an ascension Towards the day we revolt. As the seeds you've cast away take hold War will be born. Rejoice, the age of the fall has begun We'll dance as the palaces burn. A shot gun blast into the face of deceit You'll gain your just reward. We'll not rest until the purge is complete You will reap what you've sown. My redemption lies in your demise. In such a world as this does one dare to think for himself? The paradox of power and peace will destroy itself To know the truth and live in fear of no man. To realize that this in itself is an ascension Toward the day we revolt. As the seeds you've cast away take hold War will be born. Rejoice, the age of the fall has begun We'll dance as the palaces burn. My redemption lies in your demise. Rejoice, the age of the fall has begun. We'll dance as the palaces burn. "Descending" The river I'm bound to be found in, A rope chosen bound for the hang. When I'm blind and I think I see everything, Convincing myself again. This God that I worship (a faded reflection). This demon I blame (a flickering flame). Conspire as one, exactly the same. It's exactly the same. Descending, To never recover the pieces to all that we've lost. Recover the pieces lost. The pieces to all we've lost. I shudder to think of the consequence, It's blasphemy simple and true. The tragic protagonist torments, Convincing myself again. This God that I worship (a faded reflection). This demon I blame (a flickering flame). Conspire as one, exactly the same. It's exactly the same. Descending, To never recover the pieces to all that we've lost. Descending, To never recover the pieces to all that we've lost. Recover the pieces lost. The pieces to all we've lost.
