Eberious
Hello all. I was thinking we don't see much Battlefleet Gothic stuff on the WIP section so I thought I would post up my progress on my fleet. Since rekindling my intrest into BFG about 2 weeks ago I have decided to get a proper SM fleet together and get back into the BFG game. So have started by adding a 2nd major ship to the collection, I decided to convert a ex-ImperialNavy ship, the Chaos Despolier class battleship into the SM loyalist fleet. After seeing a pic from a random warprift pic on the googleweb, I decided to base the overal appearence on that but with a few extra modifcations. In example, more heavy weapons to better decimate the enemy fleet. It might be a bit over powered but you know me. Here's what I've done so far. In order to get the batteries and some spare parts I might need, I had to decommsion a IN Cruisier :o http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01952.jpg I plan to add 9 side batteries down each side and a further possible 2 concealed at the front of the ship. Other weapons include Bombardment cannons and Lance weapons. I debating over which to add, ethier torpedo tubes or a Nova cannon or two. I building this ship for pure fire power so have given over space for small fighter carft for the extra weapon systems and for fluff terms reduced troop transport. To mention fluff should be a intresting write into how my BT's came across one of these. C&C welcome. Should have some more done tonight. Eberious
Managed to get the main gun battries done, 2 cannons and 2 lance weapons in the front nose section and a Nova cannon on the belly. I might change the Nova cannon and put bombardment cannons there instead, but I'll see how it looks in the morning. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01953.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01954.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01955.jpg C&C welcome. Honda
Looks awesome! I really like the lines of the ship, you are blending the two designs quite well. As far as weaponry goes, nothing says "You're going to have a really bad day" like the bombardment cannon. Without it, what are you going to do when you finally reach the planet, eh? Also, I was under the impression that the Nova cannon was more of an Imperial Navy kind of thing. So I'd go with hangars, tons of torpedo tubes (for boarding torpedoes), and a couple bombardment cannon. You want the other guy to say, "Oh crap, what is that?" :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/136810-battlefleet-gothic-ships/#findComment-1577381 Share on other sites
Ganuus
What kind of glue is that there? I've never seen Locktite in that kind of bottle. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/136810-battlefleet-gothic-ships/#findComment-1577421 Share on other sites
Eberious
@Honda, Yeah will probably go with the Bombardment cannons instead of the Novacannon, doesnt look right really. Beside B-cannons are pretty effective also will add torpedo tubes made from the masts that cam with the Despolier. I think fluff wise the ship will have space for Thunderhawks both gunships and transports that I hope to model on the back of the ship, but none for space combat. I know they are good for a sheild to take some of the incoming fire, but has to have some draw backs. @Ganuus, the glue is just a standard superglue but its a brush applicator. Eberious
Ok, seems not a lot of BFG fans here but I could be wrong. Anyways here's the Battleship I'm working on finished and ready for painting. Finding hard to give it a name to match its impressive over the top crammed into a small space weapons loadout. I thought of calling the ship "Exterminatus" giving its weapons it can cause mass damage to both other ships and a planets surface, using both I.N and SM weapons technology. Any ideas for a different name would be great. Stll writing the fluff for it but goes along the lines of a BT fleet on the way back from a crusade that brought them way out to the outer reaches past the eye of terror where they find a aceint derelict and destroyed ship yard, both IN and chaos ships that date back to around the 36th millennium. Amongst the wrecks they find a battered Despolier ship(lucky huh) and over some time they build it back up adding some extra fire power to compesate for thier own fleet losses. and the rest kind of speaks for itself yada yada blah blah.. extreme cheese stuff, finding 1 of 3 only ships in the entire galaxy floating around....lol For those a little less fimiliar with BFG here what a box standard one looks like. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/99110802005.gif Anyways here it is. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01977.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01978.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01980.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01982.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01983.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC01984.jpg C&C please guys/gals. now to ethier paint it or build the 2 strkie crusiers. MrGosh13
I love it! Really makes it an Imperial Navy ship  Wish people here would play the game, I bought the starters box a few month's back, and besides putting the models together, I havent done anything with em, Which is such a shame, I love the Navy models... Honda
@Eberious Excellent! I think it turned out incredibly well. If I was going to vote on this, I'd say paint it now. You're hot, keep the mo' going, life is short, etc. Wish people here would play the game, I bought the starters box a few month'sback, and besides putting the models together, I havent done anything with em, Which is such a shame, I love the Navy models... Sometimes the best way to approach breaking the ice is to bring both fleets and "lure" one of your gaming buddies into helping you figure out the rules. That way they don't have to feel obligated to kick out cash to do something that they may or may not like. On the other hand, it is quite common if they are remotely curious, to see them at least want to give the game a shot. Besides, if you paint both fleets, at least you have something to game with, even if you play solo. A friend of mine did his Chaos cruisers as Iron Warriors (spray black, dry brush Boltgun, plus a little detailing) and not only did they look cool, they were pretty fast to put together. Give it a shot, you might be surprised. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/136810-battlefleet-gothic-ships/#findComment-1580612 Share on other sites
Vaaish
I think you did an awesome job on that one, better than your BB conversion. This one really flows together, Hope to see it painted and in gothic comp! Eberious
Thanks all, was thinkg that the amount of guns would unbalance it, but it turned out pretty well. I tell you what was a bugger on this job, is the torpedo tubes on the front and the underneath kept on breaking off as the surface was so flat even after I scored it a few times to get some grip. But they seem to be staying where they are now. Here's the weapon loadout list I forgot to include. Get ready to smell the cheese. 6 torpedo tubes 20 side battery cannons (9 a side and 2 in the prow(front)) 11 lance turrets(4 0n the top, 4 in the prow, 1 underneath and 4 in the rear for those escourts that manage to get in behind me) 8 bombardment cannons(6 on the top and 2 underneath) Its got room for a couple of Thunderhawks both gunship and vehicle transport. But only as a fluff thing, in the actual games it has no small fightercraft instead using that space for a extra sheild generator. So kinda counting on it destroying other ships pretty quickly. @MrGosh, thanks it does look IN but will be for my BT SM's fleet. It would be good to have more players intrested in the game and once I get back into the game and relearn the rules I going to try and get more players to play BFG. It is really....I suppose refreshing to play a new game from 40k but still within the same story line. Also BFG can make a great addition to palying a 40k campaign, you know the ones that last for ages. Using BFG as a way to travel betwen planets and getting past enemy fleets or destroying them, if set on a large scale campaign like the new DOW Soul-storm. Me and my mate plan on setting such a campaign but I fear that it will nver happen as work takes up pretty much all of our time. @Honda, lol thanks Honda, will be sparying it...wait for it...BLACK (OMG)today. :) @vaaish. Thanks. It is a little better than the BB, probably due to less actual metal work and and blending two major ships together as the 1st ever BFG conversion I ever did. And yes I will be entering it into the BFG comp, was surprised and not surprised to see you there if you know what I mean. Vaaish
I already am there  The first two posts of the frigates are some of mine and I'm planning on entering a cruiser or two plus my battleship. I'm waiting for more entries in the current heat before I do though since I don't want to flood the thing. On a side note, the folks at specialist games and port maw won't let a marine ship with that many lances or really lances at all fly since the guiding principle seems to be marine ships should never be able to outright challenge a IN ship at range. Eberious
Really!!!! aw poop :D , well I posted that question over on the TC site. See what they say, I hope so as its more for the conversion side of things. I can still use it in games of BFG just house games and where ever anyone agrees to play against it. As per one of the rules for the comp. Hopefully they will say its ok. Yeah, I meant that I saw you there, but I meant "cool vaaish is here too" rather than I couldnt find you. :P Edit)reason response from BFG comp runner... they say its cool. The "Freya" named after my little baby daughter...awww. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC02004.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC02006.jpg and again with the engine thruster light. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk270/Eberious_2008/DSC02007.jpg They dont have that much detail paint wise, but then the surface of a spaceship doesnt have much painted details. Isiah
Great work Eberious, I really like the engine drive glows on the painted model. Glad you made the effort to post it all up. BFG you gotta love it. Eberious
@Isiah. Thanks, BFG is pretty sweet and maybe by posting this stuff might encourge more warhammer 40k players to play this side of the hobby as well. I was a bit like "I dont think I'll like game mate, just little ships" but you know what, I'm hooked. Eberious
I heard there was a new rule coming out from www.gulliable.iams, that if you dont paint them with the engine glow then they arent allowed to move. I do agree a little I wasnt to sure on the idea at first, but I think its growing on me. Bigger-than-Jesus
Nice ships, was gonna try start BFG a while ago, but they arsed up my order so that went down the pan. Eberious
Joking aside regarding the rule thingy :P ... I do think I'll make that a house rule, you know just to be uber anyonning. But probably not, I'll end up playing on my own :( @Vaaish, do you mean tone down the yellow and more of a glow on the ship itself. @bigger-than-jesus(you a bettles fan). Thanks, and deffinetly order them again. Companies make balls-ups all the time, shouldnt be a reason to stop you. Should have the other strike crusier finished tonight.
