The Blood Avengers (my fluff)

I've typed up my fluff again, in Word this time as Firefox crashed halfway through last time. Just so you know, I'm new to this, so parts of my story might seem wrong compared to "official" stories.

THE BLOOD AVENGERS

Formerly titled “the Blood Defenders”, this chapter was originally tasked with the defence of the large planet known as “Hadronia”, due to it being abundant with precious minerals and metals. Most of the force were young and rather reckless, and many had not even completed genetic modification. Hence they were given this seemingly mundane task until their training was finished (due to incredible numbers of humans that were willing to serve the Emperor as a Space Marine at the time, many training programmes were halted because of under funding). Though the Imperium initially planned to set up mines on this planet, it proved too great a task, as the planet was light-years from the nearest Imperial colony, and so transport of the materials would be dangerous, especially if they fell into enemy hands. Subsequently, the task of the Blood Defenders was now to defend the planet from alien colonies that might use the resources themselves.

So it was that they defended the planet, even at the cost of their own blood. Ork attacks became increasingly frequent, and at times the Blood Defenders considered abandoning and nuking the planet. However, they stayed true to their word, and the planet was safe from enemy hands.

During a Black Crusade, the Imperium became increasingly desperate to concentrate their funds on military productions. One of the last resort methods in these times was to halt supplies and communications to distant planets, and transport the Marines to the nearest colony. The Blood Defenders were the second Chapter during this Black Crusade to be subject to this. However, officials decided that the defence of this planet would be vital to them halting the endless tide of Crusaders. Seeing no other use to these young Marines, as the Crusade was in full force and their training could not be funded, they simply cut communications and supplies without alerting the Master of the Chapter, Skarin Abbatis.

Months passed without supplies, and the Blood Defenders became tired and hungry. Countless times did they try sending messages, and each time they were greeted with replies of “Transmission was unsuccessful. Please try again later.” They resorted to hunting animals native to the planet, even eating disgusting Ork flesh… The worst of the Chapter became cannibalistic, but were restrained and chained up like criminals. It was a sad demise for a proud Chapter of the Imperium.

As times became more desperate, and ammunition ran low, Skarin had to devise a plan, or his Chapter would suffer until they die on this treacherous planet. So it was that he decided that, as a last resort, the Chapter would venture deep into the mountains of Hadronia, and bar the caves from which they entered. An Ork would be too dense to make his way in, and maybe one day the Imperium would remember them, search the planet for them so they could escape. Yet they had no respect for the Emperor any more. He had caused them to become this, prisoners on their own planet. Maybe someone more worthy of their service would find them…

CHAOS, AND GLORY

The Black Crusade was still raging, yet Abaddon knew that he was fighting a losing battle against the Imperium. The Defiler would surely change this, but where would he possibly find the resources for such a monstrous creation? Sitting back in his throne, he checked his PDA for the latest battlefield report. [Mechanised Black Legion force assaulting Dark Angels stronghold. Latest news: Black Legion massacred by the Dark Angels. 7 survivors, around 100 taken prisoner.] Screaming in anguish, Abaddon hurled the PDA at full force at the nearest wall, where it smashed into tiny pieces.

A message notification sounded on his computer. He slowly lurched over to listen to the message, smashing aside ornaments as he went. “My lord, excellent news. A scouting party has discovered a large planet on the outer reaches of our empire. Thermal scans show that it is abundant with metals, and the scouts think that this is the planet that the Gods spoke of, an ideal production ground for the great war machine, the Defiler. However, an infestation of Orks on the planet means that we need to send a large detachment of troops to clear the planet for production. May I have permission to arrange colonisation of this planet?” Abaddon’s face now bore a wide grin, as his hand slowly reached up to the touch screen, and touched the “Permission granted.” option. Today was a good day after all. The Imperium shall burn at his hands.

The sound of industrial machines could be heard from miles away, and the finishing touch to the mining city would be to blast open the mountains around it. Factories could be seen all around, intended for the production of powerful war machines.

“Okay, start the explosives countdown.” The air filled with beeping sounds from the huge amounts of explosive devices around them, and all of a sudden, a deafening blast sounded. Several of the Marines were knocked to the ground with the force of the explosion, and the people still standing began cheering. Their mining city was complete, and colonisation of the planet could begin.

“Get some Termies over ‘ere. We’re not goin’ down their ourselves, you never know what’s lurkin’ in these dark caves. Oi Baz, do some thermal scans.”

“Righto boss. There’s something showing up on ‘em, I can’t tell what they are. There’s ‘undreds of ‘em. Probably even more…”

Suddenly, loud crunching footsteps could be heard approaching from behind. Veteran Marines, clad in massive suits of Tactical Dreadnought armour were walking towards the entrance of the cave, cracking the ground they walked upon.

“Bloody ‘ell. You lot scared me to death. Right, get in there and tell us what you find. Apparently there’s something in them caves. Shoot ‘em if they shoot you, okay?”

The Terminators said nothing, instead started walking straight into the caves. Their chilling presence caused silence in the group of miners, until the mining captain told them that they could have the rest of the day off.

Meanwhile, the Terminators were deep in the caves when they came upon the mass of Marines lying on the ground. Many of the Terminators raised their weapons, but their Champion spoke up.

“Wait. They’re in suspended animation. They may be more use to the Warmaster alive rather than dead. Bring them outside.”

The sheer strength of the veterans along with the extra power of their armour meant that they could carry four Marines out each at a time. By the end of the day, all of the Marines had been loaded onto a cargo ship, and the ship’s captain was told to take the “cargo” to Abaddon’s stronghold…

Abaddon smiled. Though not a fan of sorcery, it had proved useful for once as the Sorcerers deciphered the reactivation code for each of the Space Marines. Typing in the code and transmitting it to their armour, he sat and waited. Slowly, the Marines rose up from the stone floor in his great hall. They looked around, first confused, and then started backing away from the Chaos Marines.

“Traitors of the Imperium! Traitors to the Emperor!” a Marine shouted.

“Oh calm down,” spoke Abaddon calmly, “you would have no chance against us. We mean no harm, as you could prove useful. Pray tell, what is a loyal force of Space Marines doing, abandoned in dark caves?”

“The Imperium…” spoke out Skarin. “They abandoned us, you are correct. Cut off communications, cut off supplies. We are mere shells of our former selves. The Emperor, he is a traitor to us!”

“Ah. I should have guessed. The Emperor is a weak man, who wants loyalty from everyone, even though he may not deserve it.”

“You are correct, Abaddon. The Emperor does not deserve the empire that he has. He did not deserve us. We deserve more.”

“You know what I think you want. What you deserve?”

“What is that?”

“Vengeance.”

As Skarin heard this word, his face froze. His training taught him that the Emperor was his highest master, throughout his life. Yet, he had betrayed him, and his Chapter. Skarin slowly turned around, looking to his brethren.

“We do want vengeance!” cried a young Marine, hate in his eyes. With this, the rest of the Marines began roaring with agreement. Skarin smile at this. He raised his hand to silence his troops.

“We wish for vengeance. Will you help us with this?” asked Skarin.

“Of course. I am better than the Emperor, I take anyone under my wing, who is willing to join my cause. We have great things waiting for you on your home planet. We have colonised the land, and it is now a mining world, producing my new war machine, the Defiler. We will allow you the use of these machines, if you carry on defending the planet, and ensuring that it functions correctly.”

“We would be grateful for anything you give us, my Lord…”

The next day, the chapter received many gifts. Suits of armour, including Tactical Dreadnought armour for Marines selected by Skarin. Skarin himself was blessed with a Blood Feeder, a daemonic weapon that craves the blood of living creatures. Although they do not actively worship Khorne, these Marines have his blessing, and are terrifying warriors to say the least.

The other Marines received new weapons and armour, and further military training. Heavy weapons and vehicles were granted to the squads, and even jump packs to some Marines that knew how to use them. The cannibals, who were still chained up when they were found, were given gruesome close combat weapons, which suited their blood thirsty nature. These men became fanatical about Khorne, and worship him daily, and slaughtering enemies in his name.

So it was that another Chapter of the Space Marines turned against the Emperor. The forces of Chaos grow ever stronger.

Alot of this is well written, just a few points:

-Does your chapter not have any ships? Couldn't they just go see what was going on in the Imperium? You mentioned your planet being far away but you also said the Imperium regularly sent supplies.

-Abbadon does NOT have a PDA. That's just horrendusly wrong. He has sorcerers who bring him news by scrying in pools of fresh blood or something equally morbid.

-Were the Orks in your story working with the Black Legion terminators? If so why?

Other then that I thought it was a pretty cool and imaginative piece of fluff.

- Initially, no. They couldn't have left without supplies such as fuel anyway.

- Sorry about that. I just thought it would be fitting for him to smash something up. :)

- No, you're probably confusing the miners with Orks, I just gave them "rough" British accents.
