x_beowolf_x1
I must say, Black legion is definatly the closest match it looks like, and considering that its the default chaos scheme... I also seems like the pre heresy word bearer scheme though. I guess we cant be for sure, paint schemes have always been changing. I think that the night lord raptors used to be all bronze or something. Lady_Canoness
That was the Black Legion scheme before they adopted gold as their trim. Early third I believe. Rain
It is Black Legion as others have stated, but the silver to gold trim is not a retcon as Lady Canoness said but simply a variation of the scheme. I even remember reading in a White Dwarf (this was years ago, don't remember the issue) that gold trim indicated honor or status withing the legion, though given the nonstandard organization of traitor legions you can pretty much mix and match silver and gold trims as you wish on your legionnaires. mannstein
He is definitely BL, and he is actually 2nd ed in vintage. In fact, he may even have an eye of horus sculpted into his chest plate. The gold trim was made standard when they brought out the 3.0 dex (IIRC, it may have been 3.5, so long ago.. B) ), and was chosen because the painters felt the silver trim was a bit cold-looking. It was that simple, and I can even remember a question being asked in the WD about it when the chaos minis were being showcased for the codex... No fluff reason, purely a painters choice. Before that, on the other hand, silver or gold trim was simply a matter of preference, and most folks seemed to use the silver trim. That paint job does have a certain... nostalgic.... quality. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/137779-identification-please/#findComment-1589625 Share on other sites
Bloodwave
If I´m not mistaken, that particular termie appears in the 3rd ed dex (the first one), in the section with a brief pros & cons description of each unit, there is a five men BL termie squad painted in that scheme including a HF guy, and I think it´s that same mini. For my own BL army, I use silver trim with gold trim on the shoulder pads and helmets decoration, more gold in Asp Champs iconography and full gold trim for command figures.
