I finished the beserkers that I got from the new CSM battleforce just a week ago. The backpacks fit just fine. My only gripe was that one back pack was a little..shall we say warped on the top but it just adds to the 'motif'.

How did they not fit? Was the ball to big or small? Could have shaved the ball down perhaps?

Isn't it because the Berzerker box uses the 'old' Chaos Marine back-pack? I think it is, though I have enough back-packs to compensate. Sorry dude, you are in for some hacking and cutting.
I think that is true. The Berzerkers are slightly larger than normal Chaos Marines, but the packs are the same size, so that might be it.

I've had the same problem, and use the same solution.

For those who haven;t had the problem, it occurs because the berserker sets (maybe just older ones) have different backpacks from the CSM sets. These packs are clearly from an older mold- the casting quality is AWFUL- and have some khorne specific iconography. They simply don;t fit- if you line up the "ball" the top of the pack hits against the model. Cutting the ball off or trimming the block on the models back down fixes the problem, or (if you have them) you can use normal CSM packs. IMO cutting the ball off the models bak is the simplest option, and the least likely to result in a messed up result. Once painted well, the old packs look rather nice for table top purposes, but I'd never use on in a painting competition.

Hey,

I've had the same issue, but advocate the "nick 1mm off the top of the shelf" trick.

The cut is hidden after assembly, and the "ball" helps keep the pack from being dislodged.

This second point can become important in matches involving adult beverages . . .

I don't know if they've changed, but Berzerkers were the first multi-part poseable plastic, as I recall, and minimum, the older sets use the 2nd Ed backpacks. The ones designed/coming with the old pewter models. Still, if you purchase blisters of marines with assault weapons.

No, they don't really fit.

I also advocate the top shaving, although I found that shaving the "lip" for the socket around the balljoint can work on the one with the skull on top (on the backpack itself)- the best-looking one, IMHO, of the old backpacks.

I'd hope they changed, since the new backpacks actually fit the balljoints.

That kit has aged remarkably well, all things considered. The running legs in particular have held up. Although the cartoon hands are showing their age.

I further advocate finding a shortcut to painting red for the base color. Because Red Gore sucks to paint with.
