Frater Marcus Scipio
Looked through the last seven pages and ten pages on searchy so I apologize if this has already been covered... Anyway, I'd like to start a CSM renegade army (newly turned) and have several regular SM sprues lying around. Figured I would paint and decal them chaosy, wondering what people do with the aquilas? File them off? Desecrate with an eight pointed star etc... Tyrannicide
It really depends on the back story of your force. If they're renegades that have just turned to Chaos, then they could pass for just some small defilements to their armor. If they've been traitor Marines for over three thousand years, that would most likely lead to a different story. I would suggest coming up with a name, and a small piece of background on the Chapter, or heading over to the Liber section, for creating your own Chaos DIY Chapter. teh_perfesser
Here's a few ideas for you. All easy enough for a limited skill hack like me to pull off. Paint: - Roughly hack up imperial symbols and paint them up in the same color as your Chaos marines - Mix sprues 50/50 and paint as the rest of your army - Paint them as loyalist chapters then 'X' out imperial / chapter symbols (page 76 old 'dex Red Corsairs -- I'm planning to do some of this myself) Conversions: - Assemble and GS horns and spiky bits - Assemble and GS gutbags and other Nugle-y parts - GS over imperial symbols... bonus points for leaving enough of the old symbol showing to appear obviously defiled Justification: - None. Seriously, "Those marines look to marine-ish!"? Pffft :D Fluff: - Recent converts - Squads spend less time in Warp If you're a more advanced painter/converter you could easily Khornify them or do other gods (I think undivided is actually the hardest to do right, though I have some ideas). Honestly, regardless of your abilities, assemble and paint 'em up. You can mix them in existing squads or make their own squads out of them--try both (take good long looks at them and asks others for input) and do the one that works for you. I'm planning on having four former-loyalist squads for my Corsairs/Astral Claws army; Space Wolf / 13th Company raptors, a six man havoc squad from Imperial Fists or Ultramarines, a ten man marine squad of mixed chapters--most of which will be from the awesome DIY chapters from B&C--and seven Plague Marines in loyalist armor. I'm just going to defile symbols and 'X' out chapters, the raptors will also have alot of Wolfen conversions and the plagues will have Tiger Claw colors under Nurge filth. It's Chaos after all and armies like the Black Legion and Red Corsairs aren't overly concerned about wearing matching outfits... Dreachon
Just mix em up with chaos parts, their renegades so they'll come from different times, some may be fresh while others already been serving for some time. It's a burning hatred for the Emperor and what the Imperium has become that keeps them fighting for their old ideals. Some of my terminators are even wear Crux Terminatus'; I think of it kind of like an airborne badge. This stuff is displayed next to marks of Chaos and the Eye of Horus. Really, you're completely free to do whatever you want. Playa
Hey, my 10 thousand year old Chaos marines believe very strongly in the Imperium they helped forge. It's a burning hatred for the Emperor and what the Imperium has become that keeps them fighting Mine are the same - Marines first, and "Renegades" second. My aquilae are simply painted flat black. Not removed, just subdued. No alteration of Loyalist models is even required. As retlaw said, however you want them to look is fine. Just make sure the weapons in both hands are recognizable. Rain
Just so you all know, pre heresy terminators should not have a crux terminatus because it was added after the heresy and contains a piece of the Emperor's armor. That said, I do have several models that use loyalist backpacks, legs, and even eagle chests. The reason as far as I'm concerned though isn't that it's a vestige of the heresy, but rather looted loyalist armor that was given to newly created chaos marines or picked up by veterans as trophies or replacements for irreparably damaged armor, I mean if 13th company Space Wolves loot chaos armor why wouldn't Iron Warriors loot loyalist armor? Also, from a modeling standpoint it introduces variety into your squads which is one of the reasons I love chaos in the first place.
