Who are the Red Corsairs?!

The Red Corsairs were once a loyal chapter called the Astral Claws. They were based on the

planet Badab which is located near the maelstrom.

Their commander, Lufgt Huron, decided to throw off the shackles of the dogmatic Imperial regime

(yay) and let his chapter be a force unto themselves. They preceeded to become Corsairs (another

word for pirates) stealing from imperial shipping and generally being rather naughty.

The imperium, obviously a little peeved by this decided to end the Astral Claws fun and sent a force

to wipe out the little rascals. This was viewed very badly by the Mantis Warriors, Lamenters and

(another chapter I can't at this moment remember, my bad) who rallied to the Claws defense.

Eventually the Claws and their allies were beaten back or defeated and surrendered, leading to a

final orbital assault on Badab that resulted in Huron being blasted in half by a Melta Weapon and the

surviving Claws retreating into the Maelstrom.

Huron somehow survived and had his missing body parts replaced with bionics, turning him once and

for all into Huron Blackheart, the Tyrant of Badab, the renamed and recoloured Red Corsairs then

began making raids out of the Maelstrom terrorising the weakling servants of the corpse god and causing

a great many other Marines of Dubious Morals to realise that they could have a lot of fun if they joined

Huron, which they did, allowing the Corsairs to grow in number and become a significant threat to the

already faltering imperium.

Hope this helps, and is provided in a suitable Chaos-biased way

Laterz...

Red Corsairs feature prominately in the new CSM dex and in CoD book they detail the Badabb War and seige of their fortress. They get a brief cameo in 3rd ed CSM dex with a brief article and paint scheme in the back. Also there was a WD about them can't remember which though. :P
