Thanks guys glad you are liking it =)

I stole some time to do some very brief painting today. Just need to line the inside recesses with some ink and paint the wipers and the windows should be set. I tried some new things on the windows and think they came out ok for only have a few minutes to do them, but they were a pain to photo with the shadow from the blast shield but I managed one good pic.

I dare not advise your painting for it is to flawless and surely the painting gods should swallow me whole should I speak. Truly superb models here. Three questions, how do you weather like that, what do your do to base paint it with(in detail), and can I use your army scheme for a few of my models.

Thanks a lot. I am not sure that I exactly follow what you are asking here though.

I think I explained the weathering sort of somewhere earlier in here. Its hard to explain exactly as its a pretty subjective process but I mix up the color for my chips then take a small piece of blister foam and dab it in the paint. I then dab that onto a piece of paper towel to take off excess and just apply it to areas I think should recieve damage. Then I got back with my chip color and add in any larger ones as I see fit, or group together small areas produced by sponing into larger irregular shaped chips just to define them better. Then a little touchup is usually done to remove mistakes. Chips I deem large enough then get lined on the bottom with a brigther line.

Typically the top portion of the chip would be given a lining of black but my chips are so dark when I tried doing this I found it didn't add much and would save me time to not do it. If I were to do another army I would adjust accrodingly and make the chips a different color so I could line both the top and bottom to improve the 3D effect.

Ok well after a few weeks of some really intense work yesterday and today I had off and took the time to paint, and boy was it relaxing!

The pics may be a little brighter than usual, but the red kept coming up too dark. I am really happy with the red in person but it comes across more flat in my pics, I am going to read my camera manual and see if I can lower the exposure time as I think its just getting overexposed at the moment and washing it out, any tips here would be appreciated.

I have a couple of touchups to do where a brush slipped here and there etc. and I have to figure out what to write on the parchment. Any ideas, I stink at freehand as my handwriting is terrible...perhaps I will try my hand at making some really small text transfers. Other than that this thing has taken forever so I am considering it done at the present, and will revisit it later when I feel up to it.

The hatch and gunner are removable so I can make it a razorback too. Also I know the two halves of the hatch where the gunner is are missing, I seem to have temporarily misplaced them ^_^

Any comments, criticisms, or suggestions welcome. This was my first rhino and despite taking a long time it was a fun project I think.

I think I am going to treat myself to a close combat termi squad so I think those might be next on my plate. Probably not the most logical choice in terms of getting my army ready but I have always wanted terminators going back to 10 or 12 years ago and never bought any.

Thanks for looking, cheers!

He does have a pupil I swear! Odd angle I suppose to catch it, may revisit this though and make it clearer.

Nice painting Gumba. I like the Marine's face, very fleshy tones and it appears as if he is a little sunburnt! :o Guess that's what happens to Astartes when they stay out too long in the heat of battle...? So Terminators next up on the painting table?

I figure sticking his bald head out of there all day can't be great for his skin no. Yeah I think I can no longer resist buying some terminators and painting them, I just find them so cool. Now to figure out how to kit out the squad, 3 LC and 2 TH? If I really feel like a big spender maybe a land raider crusader to drive them around too, but I am such a miser that probably isnt likely right now ^_^

looking forward to seeing the termies, will be a nice addition to this already awesome looking force..

3 lc and 2 th is what i would say pretty standard loadout for the Assault Ts

Ok Zazel thanks thats what I was thinking, but I was wondering what's the standard choice for the srg. in the unit? I haven't gamed in probably 10 years, but for some reason I am still trying to paint and build an army I could use just in case I get the itch in the future.

This blog is really inspirational, love how the rhino turned out.

The red armour really pops, giving a nice contrast to the grey tank.

Thanks guys. I think the blade was on the razorback upgrade sprue like shown below. I trimmed off the ends and then angled it a bit to mount it underneath the chassis instead of on the front like it normally goes. The little piece above it is I think from an old leman russ missle (it came in two halves to form the box that housed the missle) that somehow found its way into my bitz box when I acquired a broken russ from an old gaming buddy for bitz some years ago. It just needed a little trimming to wedge it into place there and worked a treat.

I went back to visit some family and friends for a while and took the opportunity to pick up my terminators since there arent any decent gaming stores where I currently live. I must say they were worth the wait. A really fun kit to put together and play with posing.

I have my first member of the squad nearly done. I just finished the base so I have to wait overnight before I seal it then give it some dull cote and finally static grass. The termi is basically done, he just needs the chapter decal and then some weathering on the decal and he is good to go. I'd normally wait to post untill he was done but I just got excited and took some pics. I lucked out and I guess had some good light as I didn't end up tweaking the photos at all.

I probably spent the most time on the claws themselves, but I think I like end result. I hadn't ever attempted power type weapons before but I definately wanted them to live up to the their name and hope they look like something even the 'ardest orc would fear!

I think next I might take a one miniature break to paint up a sniper scout. I've tried probably 5 different color schemes and ended up stripping them every time so I want to get one scout done I am happy with so I can get their color scheme settled.

Here is the first nearly done termi.

And the rest of the lads awaiting paint. (heads and storm shield arms are on sticks for ease of painting)

I started working on the scout. His head is obviously on a stick for ease of painting. I am pretty happy so far, though looking at the pics I think I made the transition to the highlight on the pants too subtle especially on his left leg. I think I'll rework that a bit and add in another stage or two of highlights, I was mainly afraid of it being too harsh since its such a large flat surface. I am pretty happy with the way the leather turned out, that has always been a problem for me.

Just need to fix the pants, add in some weathering, do some small details, finish the head, and add the chapter symbol and he should be good to go.

Hopefully this poor chap can avoid a dip in simple green unlike every other attempt I have made at scouts :D

These are looking REALLY good.

One thing that you might want to think about is that you havent highlighted under a lot of the smaller damage.... I know its not a scratch as such but because there is paint there thats going to create an "edge" you might want to think about highlighting them as well... Otherwise with some damage highlighted and some not it looks a little funny in some areas.

Heh yeah as I said his head is on a painting stick as it would be rather tight having it on there for painting. It would make line of sight a bit tricky without it I suppose! Koran you make a good point, I decided to not highlight under the smallest scratches on purpose thinking that they were more superficial but I may have to make a test piece to see how it looks if I highlight under every one.

Well I've been doing some more work on the lads. I seem to have misplaced my scouts head so he is still wip at the moment ;) I've been mainly obsessed with basing lately, I have had all kinds of problems getting primer to adhere well to my resin bases which lead to me questioning the whole idea. I realized that there were a couple of other issues going on

-they are tall which may have line of sight implications

-primer wasn't adhering well, which may lead to durability issues

-if I ever expand my force I have to order more bases

-grey marines and grey rocks I think was just too much grey

-I really like making my own bases

So I gathered up a few new basing supplies to fiddle around with and painted up 19 bases (1 had a misfortunate accident!) and started applying static grass and field grass. These are the first 4 that are dry. I feel they will be more durable, easier to replicate, cheaper, and also I think add a couple of more colors while not being too vibrant to combat the rather plain sceme of my marines. They are also pretty generic so I think should look ok on most boards. No new paint jobs, and they aren't glued down yet but you get the picture.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/gumbafish/random/newbases.png

I had 8 more tactical marines basecoated in grey I had forgotten I started so I also have 4 new marines almost ready, they just need their decals and they are done. I'll throw up pics in the next day or so of them. I think I will either try to knock out the remaining 4 members of my second tactical squad or paint up a scout next to break things up.

Ok so I finished 4 new tactical marines, just a quick picture using the autocorrect.

And I got the idea to take an 'army' photo of what I have so far, the dread still needs to be rebased but didn't want to leave him out of the pic. (however I did just notice I left my solitary terminator out!)

More tacticals or a scout to come, and hopefully I can find the MIA scout head so I can finish the 1st one I started! I would be curious to hear what people think of the new bases. I think they add a couple more layes of texture and some different colors to make them a little more interesting, but I've been known to be wrong.

Gumbafish,

I have to say I really enjoy this thread. The painting is ace, and I've been using your chipping as an example for painting my own miniatures. i'd like to see some more/bigger pictures of the army as a whole.
