Allies in 5th

Greetings all, when the Chaos codex came out, I went through a rollercoaster of emotions, from pleased my Thousand sons no longer sucked, to... displeased I couldn't field them the way I wanted to any more (yeah there went 3 perfectly good dreads!) but I digress.

 

I tried, and I mean tried to go loyalist, I found the new BA codex to be kinda fun a few games, But in the end I got disapointed with its complete tactical inflexibility, and my heart went back to chaos...

 

I picked up some Alpha Legion fluff, I had always stayed away from it, cause I just figured the all signing all dancing, all infiltrating army was TOO powerful... anyway, after I read all the fluff I could find, I knew I found my true calling...

 

Course after cuddling my 3.5e Codex, I looked to the 4th one next to it.. and cried... I wanted cultists damnit!

after debating if I should use the loyalist codex with Marine scouts to do cultists, my good friend and primary gaming partner suggested I look at Kroot Mercenaries... and I LOVE them.

 

But the question is, are they legal? I know a lot of those old fun armies are being invalidated like 13th company, LaTD etc, but RAW in the kroot codex I can use 2x20 Squads of kroot (who will be modled with various empire, maurader, catachan and cadian bits) as infiltrating stop-gap for my army, I'm super excited.

 

Anyone know if they removed Allies in 5th, I've heard they did, but before I go enjoy converting 30 cultists to "count as, kroot with kroot rifles" I wanna double check.

How do you alpha players use things like "Icon of Chaos Glory" on your models, isn't it a bit pretentious and not-so-covert to have a giant Banner pole like Overhere guys shoot me!

As far as Kroot, I couldn't tell you. I do know what I'm doing with the absence of cultists... I'm taking lesser daemons and modeling them as if they were Renegade Militia. (see Forge World).

 

Second question: I look at the icon a few different ways, and yes I am putting it in my army. Firstly the icon should be clearly identifiable in my opinion so that your opponent is crystal clear on who has it, and what it does (some people have no idea the difference in appearance or function of the powers.)

 

That being said, the icon can be clear, but placed different. That is to say I came up with a way of putting a Glory icon on a backpack similar to how a loyalist might display a backpack banner.
