Future Horus Heresy novels - 2009

I think he did the whole 'turning traitor' bit alot better in Fulgrim than in False Gods, so hopefully this will continue with a mature portayal of morality and decision making in the case of Magnus and the Thousand Sons, and less reliance on plot-busting 'anathema' devices to explain them turning traitor.
but id rather william king got hold of the SW book as he has done some great stuff with them also lee lightner has aswell

but hey we can all dream.

Big Space Wolves fan here, but god knows I want William King to stay away. The man's approach to story writing is ALWAYS the same!

Step 1. Meet Character

Step 2. Character is Content in Life

Step 3. Character's life is disrupted.

Step 4. QUEST.

Step 5. Character becomes IMMENSELY important, Gets The Girl, Finds Magical Item, Has Destiny Revealed.

Step 6. Character completes quest to fanfare, scene is set for the next Colour By Numbers tale.

Please, please, please, please give the Wolves to Abnett. I fear that McNeil will just attack paper with crayons, turn them into Horn'ed Vikings in Space when they have the potential to be so much more.

Haha thats very true :woot:

Re. the Space Wolves, apparently Mr. Abnett has an important new direction to take them in with the new book, will be interesting to see what he comes up with!

Lemme guess: They were traitors all along.

haha ^_^

I think its more to do with their 'character', perhaps away from their William King representation, and towards something more original. I think the common consensus amongst many of the HH authors is that something more needs to be done with them, at least according to an Abnett interview.

My brothers! As you have read, there will be another epic tale about my battle brothers the Dark Angels! I am verry excited about hearing about the sacking of Prospero and am looking forward to seeing Dan Abnets take on the barbarion fools and for the record I enjoy McNiel and King.

I would love to see the Lion and the Wolf or the DA vs. Konrad Curze and the Night Lords... That would be awesome!

it is interesting, I have only read one Dark Angels book that i liked and I thought they were done better in the Ragnar book. At the same time I have never read a Space Wolf book I didn't like (wasn't a fan of them in the Battle for the Abyss.) As I have said I am very excited to see the "Master of War's" take on the Space Wolves, or I think I said that... As I try to mention as often as possible, I only make the jest for the sake of the grandest rivalry of them all, a rivalry that would be greatly appriceated to be written about. I mean you can't write about the great crusade without writing about the Dark Angels and Space Wolves campaining together, They wern't really known for having many other friends...

Also are you calling the Dark Angels Barbaric? I only ask because I can see why someone might say that (kind of...) but it is not anything that has been pointed out to me by anyone else, Space Wolf or not.

When I write, and I do sometimes, usually pre-heresy, I write the DA and SW as great friends whos opposites compliment eachother. I only got into 40k because my friend told me to and he was Space Wolves so naturally I took Dark Angels...

Also a story that would be a good one to read would be the Night Lord, Dark Angels thing. I still havn't found anything about it (still havn't read lord of the night) and the more I read the more I am lead to think that nothing happened between the two chapters. The evidence seems to lead further and further away from that. The Space Wolves and Dark Angels were supposed to be going to Terra together so if this was the case then did the Night Lords attack both of them? If so how did they survive against the two legions? Neither chapter could ever be called a pushover so I don't think the Night Lords would have stood a chance against the fury of the Lion and the Wolf.

Corax would also be a good one to revisit.

Thats my three cents , haha I eben put in an extra one...

Cheers,

Master Elias.

I've seen no mention at all about the Night Lords. Sure they popped up in Fulgrim. Any rumors floating around with a book on their role and involvement with the HH?

See 'The Dark King'....your boy Night Haunter is all over that and it kinda explains his state of mind at the time

I still can't wait untill the Iron Warriors get their turn in the HH limelight and if either Mr Abnett or Mr McNeill got the go ahead for it woohoo.

But i'm also looking forward to "The Battle for Prospero" simply because I want to know how Magnus will deal with the doggies.

is getting your back broken by Russ a method of dealing with the doggies? :(

sorry, just had to.

wolf lord kieran

Beat me to it Kieran! When exactly did Magnus deal with the Doggies?!

As a massive Space wolf fan i can wait for this, Would also like to see a novel provide a bit of fluff and backround on the Salamanders and White Scars.

Unfortunately the Sallies are already out, Isstvaan V has already happened. They won't turn up again until the debate over the Codex Astartes. :woot:

Man, I'm sorry to spoil the book for you; But this is how he (so far) cannonically dealt with them.

1. Got assaulted by the Wulfen first.

2. Got assaulted by the rest of the Legion second.

3. Wept for abit.

4. Attempted to use Sorcery and the Warp to defeat the doggies.

5. Epic Phailed to use Sorcery and the Warp to defeat the doggies.

6. Got lifted in the air, and dropped onto Russ' knee, shattering his spine.

7. Wept some more

8. Had his entire planet turned to ash.

9. Ran away like a girl.

10. Doggies be in his base, burning his planets.

Of course, the RetCon powarz of Abnett could reverse all that.

Okay I stand corrected but hey Magnus is an awesome character and that should be a well written i guess you SW players would say "Massacre".

With the battle of Prospero i really hope the Raven Guard get the spot in the limelight the deserve. If memory serves correctly Corax had been Faffing around with his geenseed make up turned out a "boatload" of Gribblies and sort of shood them up the ramp to break the deadlock at the final assault.

corax "come on lads"

gribblies "graon"

marine "its not working sir"

corax gets out cattle prod....zap

door crashes to floor

magnus "bummer"

Mhotep was pretty damn cool.

This is funny tho, i was talking to a friend a few days ago about how i wanted to read about the sacking of prospero, well there ya go...

I don't really get all the anti-mcneill stuff thats flying around. Fulgrim and Mechanicum are 2 of the best books written in the series. Besides that, the books Storm of Iron and Heldenhammer are from McNeill's hand and they are excellent.

Guess it comes down to taste.

I also saw some talk about Bill king and why he isn't writing in the HH. I do have to say that i find the quality of his books very shifty. I've read all the SW books and found the arching story awesome. The first book was by far the best though. The whole transformation proces and everything. It went a bit downhill from there (dressing up as orks to fool them... come on... i was seriously dissapointed with that part) and picked up in the last 2 books of the series. Ofcourse, that's also an opinion.... i just hope to read more HH novels in general!

PS. it says a december 2009 release. Hopefully in time with the new space wolves? :)

I like Graham McNeills stuff

A few people seem to be expecting masterpiece books these days, especially when it comes th the HH series. We need to remember we are reading books that are based on tabletop games with dice and miniatures!

When you look at it that way we are pretty lucky in terms of the standard of writing we get. Just go and look at books based on popluar video game franchise or TV shows - the quality is awful - far worse than anything in the BL
