Danny Cyanide
Hey guys, I used to play 40K during third edition, and my interest has been re-sparked. I've started a Chaos army, and have gone with the Black Legion. I was building a Chaos Lord the other day, and decided that I'd give me hand a go at an Abaddon conversion. This was my first time using Green Stuff, and my first time fabricating parts out of card. For a first time, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out I figured since he's been around since Terminator Armor was introduced, and the Heresy happened shortly after, he could use a couple Pre Heresy Shoulder guards. I think they make him look more menacing. Here they are, Tell me what you think: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/abaddon0001.jpg Most of the parts were included in the Terminator Lord Pack. The Top knot is off of an Ork Boy, and the bolt pistols on the Talon are from a Chaos Space Marines Sprue. Here's my take on Drach'nyen: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/abaddon0002.jpg I built the sword over top of the power sword on the CSM aspiring champion sprue. The hilt is made from helmet spikes, spikes off of bolters and the large prongs from the Sorcerer head included in the Terminator Lord Kit. Here's a Green Stuff Skull that I tried on his leg: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/abaddon0003.jpg Anyways, thanks for looking. Danny Cyanide
Well if nothing else, posting these pics has pointed out some glaring mould lines that I had missed, and allowed me to remove them. Will update once he's painted... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/139675-my-take-on-abaddon/#findComment-1614011 Share on other sites
WingsOfTheFalcon
Great work so far! I'm a big fan of people doing their own interpretations of GW special characters. The pre-heresy look is great, and you've done really well on the GS, I've been experimenting with GS lately myself so I know how hard it is to work. My only crit would be that perhaps you need to make the sword a bit sharper, it looks a bit like a club at the tip. That and the mould lines you've already mentioned! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/139675-my-take-on-abaddon/#findComment-1614228 Share on other sites
Danny Cyanide
Thanks for the kind words. This has been a fun little project. I agreed that Drach'nyen should be a little sharper, and I wanted to add some detail to the hilt. Here's what I came up with. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/abaddon0007.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/abaddon0006-1.jpg I also decided to give the skull on his knee another go, with a little more detail: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/abaddon0006.jpg Anyways, I think he's about ready to prime and paint. Brother SRM
Much better second go with the skull. Can make out the detail much better! Also, I hate the GW model for Abaddon; yours kicks the crap out of theirs! Can't wait to see him painted! WingsOfTheFalcon
Great progress, the sword looks much better, as does the reformed skull. One thing I would say is that you should probably tidy up the barrels of the storm bolter before you get the primer on. Personally I would drill them but that is just an aesthetic preference. Look forward to seeing it with a fresh lick on it! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/139675-my-take-on-abaddon/#findComment-1615476 Share on other sites

Danny Cyanide
So, I was going through my painting area and found this guy again last night. I decided to quickly splash some paint on him. He's not done, still some clean up, and detailing to do, but for a few hours, I'm pretty happy! Let me now what you think. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Danny_Cyanide/minis/abaddon8.jpg Steff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/139675-my-take-on-abaddon/#findComment-1963330 Share on other sites
Sons of Horus
good painting :jaw: he's definitely bigger but he's also much less bulky :jaw: and i like the original Drachnyen more. Danny Cyanide
I also like the original Drachnyen better my self and see mine as the major flaw on this model. I still feel that my version looks like a blob of GS on some spikes! lol Unfortunately, that is the best I could create when I built this guy. I'd like to eventually replace it with the actual Drachnyen, but currently I don't feel like buying a model for just a sword. If someone were to give me one, or if GW still sold Bitz, it'd be there in a second!
