Great Crusade/Horus Heresy Showcase

Touche.

Let me rephrase then, pretty pictures with good detail of the pretty models. My best attempts always look like this:

Which is less than useful.

That red looks fine to me.

If you are going for the burnished look as depicted in the FW HH books, try putting a thin layer of Future floor polish on the red. That stuff is basically liquid plastic, and it gives a very nice, glossy shine.

Those are some brutal looking Sons of Angron. Welcome to B&C and welcome to the XII Legion - looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Thanks! Here's the rest of the squad...

@ EdT: Excellent use of the FW replacement WE heads. I guess the bunny ears don't look so silly after all. Just the right amount of brutality. Also, I like the net - I guess you too are a fan of gladiator history? That Legionary is a retiarius in space, no?

Thanks! Yes, I wondered if the bunny ears might be a bit over the top but they do seem to give a certain presence when surrounded by the less flamboyant t-shaped helms. I suspect a whole squad of them would tip things too far though- better to restrict them to officers only, I think...

And yes, I was going for a retilarius look! I did briefly toy with the idea of doing a few others, especially the scissor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scissor_(gladiator_type))- but I couldn't get the arm- weapon looking right, and I didn't want to go too 'themed'; chain-axes are World-Eatery enough!

Hahaha, I've had a lifelong fascination with gladiators (I guess I was born into the wrong century). My favorite was the thraex. A few years ago I even got involved with a local historical reenactment society and got to strap on some replica gear and fight a few mock bouts. I wore the gear of a murmillo, and let me tell you, heat exhaustion from wearing that damn helmet was a huge problem. :D

I've been contemplating building a few gladiator-inspired World Eaters for display purposes when my 3000-point WE army is finished. For example, a Rampager body modified with a breacher shield, power gladius, and a WE helmet (with the addition of a crest) would make a nice murmillo. The downward curved swords that come with the Rampagers kit would do nicely for a thraex as well.

Woooaaaah, that's a long time ago! Cool that you remember it! Sadly not though, I sold them off. As of now, it's 10th Legion going on:
