Of Lions and Wolves

Don't ask... I play Wolves (about 4.5K pts) whilst two of my friends have DA armies. One is a lot bigger than the other, so to balance the teams it was about 5K pts of DA on one side, and 3.5K Wolves and 1.5K DA, each with a Titan. It was our first Apocalypse battle, but won't be our last!

At some point I'll get a detailed report up, but for now a few teaser shots:

Our Titan takes aim...

Right... so I'll do a write up of the "best bits"

Our list comprised:

1500 pts Dark Angels

Librarian on Bike

TDA Chaplain

2 Squads of Deathwing

2 Tactical Squads

Ravenwing

3750 pts Wolves

TDA Wolf Lord w/ TDA Bodyguard (Pod)

Wolf Priest w/ Bodyguard (Lascannon Rzback)

Ven Dread (Pod)

Siege Dread (Pod)

Pack of Scouts

3 Packs of Grey Hunters (HB Rzback's)

1 Pack of Blood Claws w/ Iron Priest

Land Raider Crusader

Land Speeder Tornado

1 Pack of Long Fangs

Predator Annihliator

Fellblade

And of course, a Warhound Titan with Twin Double Turbolasers.

Our Assets comprised a Shield Generator, Disrupter Beacon and Hold at All Costs. (He had more pts than us)

Our opponent (Firenze, of this board) had

Sammuel (Speeder)

Belial w/ 5 Deathwing

Libraian w/ 5 more Deathwing

Squad of Ravenwing

Scout Squad

Assault Squad

3 Tactical Squads

Devastator Squad

Techmarine and Servitors

Oh, and Azrael, the Masters of the Chapter and a tooled up Command Squad in a Land Raider. ;)

And a Fellblade, Warhound and VDR'd Flyer gunship thing.

He took Hold at All Costs, Disrupter Beacon and the MotC assets.

We bid 4mins, he had 7 so we went first. Our deployment was relatively simple. The Long Fangs deployed in a ruined building, with the LST and RW in support. The centre was occupied by my 4 Razorbacks, Predator and Fellblade whilst the right flank saw a DA Tactical squad firebase and the LRC prepared to charge up into midfield. The Titan went between the RW and Mechanised elements, with a commanding view of the battlefield. The Beacon went centrally and the Shield Generator protected the DA firebase.

In response, Firenze positioned his Devastators opposite the Long Fangs, with 2 of his Rhino borne Tactical Squads in support. His Fellblade and Raider went centrally and on the right he had: a Combat Squad, Assault Squad, Techmarine, Scout Squad and Sammuel.

So, with no further ado the first SA kicked in: Ambush. Fortunately, this only stunned one Razorback. In our turn one, the RW and LST moved forwards towards the Devastators and Rhinos, with the firepower unleashed destroying one Rhino and killing most of the Devastators. The centre saw the 3 remaining Razors hurtle forwards popping smoke, whilst the Iron Wolf (Fellblade) fired on the Techmarine and Tactical Squad, killing 4 Marines and 3 Servitors.

The Wolves advance, led by the Wolf Priest.

The DA firebase, not wishing to be outdone let rip into the lurking scouts and the Assualt squad, felling all but the Veteran Sergeant and Missile Launching Scout. Meanwhile, the RW scouting move, combined with an aggressive deployment and a LRC left the Blood Claws capable of a first turn charge on them. Although two died, the Iron Priests 8 S8 attacks left little to argue, and they swept victoriously into the last Assualt Marine. Finally, our Titan chose to split fire: 1 DBTLC fired on the Fellblade, missing entirely, the other landed two penetrating hits on the MotC's Raider, and blew it into a billion smoking fragments, taking out nearly 1500pts worth with the first shot!

To say Firenze was not amused was an understatement. In his turn, he used what was left of his forces (much had been pinned or entangled... or destroyed!) in order to wreak havoc on our advance. The Titan crippled my Fellblade, leaving it unable to move (But for our Shield Generator it would have lost 2 Structure Points) whilst a Razorback was destroyed, along with several Ravenwing as the remaining Tactical Squad disembarked and fired on us. Meanwhile, the BC's finished off the last Assualt Marine.

Our turn two, and the Wolf Scouts turned up, with the aim of finishing off the DA lurking by the Titan. The RW on our side fluffed it against the Tactical Squad, whilst the none to tender attentions of the Fellblade meant my GH support was going nowhere. The central two GH's disembarked with the intention of melta'ing the Fellblade. The firebase of Tactical DA finished off the scout but didn't achieve much else, and then we let rip into the Titan. 4 lascannons, 2 Hunter Killed missiles and an Autocannon... failed to down more than a single shield. The Fellblade Cannon managed to take the other one out, and then our Warhound let rip. Not even the hardy ceramite of a Titan is proof against the awesome power of Turbo Lasers, and all four hit and came up as 4+'s - leaving it destroyed. So of course...

After:

Yep, it went nuclear and cleared out the entire flank. For moments Sammuel was the only remaining Dark Angel on that flank... the point blank pistol fire from Blood Claws blew his speeders engines apart!
