[ARTWORK] Personal Project- Angels Cruentis

Here is something I managed to scrounge up when I had three-four hours sparetime...

It's a Sar, Captain, of my personal project/chapter Angels Cruentis.

http://www.freewebs.com/studiocolrouphobia/Sar%20Azazel.jpg

Chapter Organisation: (briefly now)- Chapter is organised into eight Hosts, a format that can be equalled with the Great Companies of the Space Wolf Chapter. Each Host has its own ruling body -led by a Sar(Librarian/Captain)-, its own veterans and other specialists.

The Sarim of the Hosts form a counsil that rule the Chapter as a whole.

(Sarim is the collective name of the Sar's of the entire Chapter, hence the Sarim are always only eight members)

(snip)

*Small Chapter- The Chapter has not recruited for over 300 years, leaving each Host smaller then a full company.

The Average Host has 70-75 Marines of any kind in their ranks, some have slightly more, some have slightly less. One Host, "the Host of Azazel", only have 23 Marines in its ranks.

Sar Azazel is very uneasy about this, but still pushes his brethren top fight on as if they where a full Host.

This is a very dark piece of artwork but I really like it. The Sar looks as if he's very brutal and unrelenting in battle, you've captured the mood very well with the addition of the daemon head. Azazel's face looks quite murky and sinister. Congratulations on creating an awesome piece of art. :pinch:

Thank you, I try my best... this is really a speedwork though. Either Im going to maintain this style for al Angels Cruentis artwork or Im going to go for more finalized artwork, havent decided just yet...

Looks epic. What's with Azazel's face? Is that a clown nose?

Nah, just his hair flowing in front of it... ;)

I really like the armour design.

Only thing that really bothers me about this piece is that the red cloth could have had a bit more attention and the torso and chainsword could have a bit brighter lighting as there's something underlighting that daemon head. bah, I hope you get what I mean, it is still a characterful piece.

Yeah I get what you mean, no worries :(

It's a mood pic more then anything else :)

Nice work Colrouphobic!

That daemon head is iffy in a good way.

And the clownish nose there just gives me the creeps. – Well done!

Haven't seen anything from you in a while, so Im hoping for more.

-Yeah, might be some stff popping out... though Im in a tough place with cash so any and all time right now goes to looking for work, commissions or otherwise.

But I have a few images in the making for this personal project...

Thanks Allerka.

Here is the next one.

Malakim: Brother Irimel.

(malakim is roughly the same as 1st company, or "veteran". A description is in the IA on the Angels Cruentis)

Thanks, just for the heck of it, here is another one:

Angirim Assault Brother-

(Angirim are tactical/standard Marines as described in the IA for the Angels Cruentis)

Here is an image of an imperial guardsman.

I know, this is a forum for powerarmour, but the guardsman is part of a company that accompany Inquisitor Damien, hence the link to an Inquisitor.

Here is what I wrote on Illuminatus (Killteam weekly Sketch Group)

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/548446/Damiens%20retinueconcept.jpg

http://z4.invisionfree.com/illuminatus/ind...c=773&st=15

"The personal Guardsmen Company of Inquisitor Damien has been lost in the Warp for just as long as Damien himself. In terms of how long they feel they have been lost, no-one knows, but some 1000 years have past since they last fought in the materium.

The Company was originally some 200 men strong, but is now little less then 30.

The hardy men originate from a system close to the arcadia gate, but rather then being dispatched as Cadias, they where hand-picked by the Inquisition for different Inquisitors that needed impecable minds and strong bodies.

They utilise a weapon specifically developed fro clse-to-mid-range fighting in the Warp- the Melta-lance.

The equipment is heavy to carry, and on top of fielding a charge for their weapon on their back, they also have oxygene-tanks in their backpack for being able to fight in "unhealthy" enviroments."

Hey Colrouphobic, nice seeing you around here. I like your Space Marines (as all your other art). In addition to being well drawn and proportioned and colored, you've captured something of the mystique of the Astartes. I dunno how to convey what I mean by that but... take the first... he's so brutal looking, yet noble (maybe even arrogant). I like it.

The Guardsman is sweet too, nice to see some original regimental action.

I'll have to check out the IA that inspired this...

Your Marines are SAWEET! I love the proportions and the grim feel of them, the guardsman looks like he's sort of oriental. but why are his eyes glowing? I like the Melta Lance

Hey there, thanks :)

His eyes are glowing because I just didn't have the time to complete him in time for the end of the KWSG- but lets be inventive and say that.... they dont have any pigment in their irises? Thus they have all white eyes...

Thank you, yes well, I only paint as good as I can, it is nice that you see them as capturing something essential in the Astartes :)

You should go read the IA..I wrote it :P

OMG! Sweet!!

Im a space marine artist too and only really work in pencils and pen. I have a few questions for you...

Did you use a graphics program and if so, what?

Can you send me a PM about how you have got the shading and texture like that?

Nice work!

Edit: I found a niggle with it. The hands and arms look a little out of porportion. I think its the style of armour you have on them... Still, well done.

I used a graphic program, in this case I used Photoshop. I use PainterX, Photoshop Cs3 (or CS4 on my laptop- companybenefits rule), Zbrush, Sketchup, Al-chemy and Fusion5 for my proffessional painting (first two are painting programmes, 3&4 are 3d programmes, 5 is a free program for drawing randomized shapes, do a google for it, and the last is a compositioning and after-effects program), but when I sketch I use Photoshop or pen and paper as I feel most comfortable with those.

About the arms, it probably is the armour, there is a certain amount of foreshortening on them also, but in the end, this is a 2hr sketch, not a full illustration.

Shading and texture- I have a great texturebrush that I made myself and that I use on metal and stone areas. You should learn how to make custom brushes and play around with it. My brush is a square, with a dualbrush setting (where the second brush is several, different sized, smaller dots in that have a high scatter, and with wet edges set. Other settings/Opacity Jitter set to "0% and Pen Preassure". Play around a little, you will get a hang of it!

your art skills are amazing

Thank you, I try my best and work as a freelancing illustrator :D
