Brother Grunt
Just need a quick clarification on the "rending" rule. So if you hit with a AC then you proceed to rend it on the penitration roll you then roll a d3 for additional strength of the gun. So if I'm reading this right the eqation should look something like this.... Strength of gun + Penitration roll (i.e. 6) + d3 = Total power of the shot taken. (Max of S:15, Min of S:13) am I correct on this? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/141215-rending-rule/ Share on other sites
Nazraell
that is the way i read it. Edit: Just checked my book, and you are indeed correct. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/141215-rending-rule/#findComment-1632291 Share on other sites

OwenCrute
Wasn't Rending an extra d6? Maybe i'm wrong, but i remember reading in 4th ed rulebook it's an extra d6 pen, but I don't know. +EDIT+ Oh yeah, we're in 5th now, aren't we? My opinion is now null and void :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/141215-rending-rule/#findComment-1632335 Share on other sites
Brother Drakk
Just wondering, is anyone going to be inclined to use less assault cannons because of the new rules on rending? Or do you think that it went from uber to good, and will be still eager to use it? Zelron
Perhaps the Heavy flamer on ex. terminators, will be a more viable choice from now..? Think I'm going to keep mine, though! But let's see when the new marine codex is released. Cost changes can do a lot of difference. SeattleDV8
mathhammer wise. against armour 14 the AC still beats out the krak missle for pens. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/141215-rending-rule/#findComment-1633155 Share on other sites
Brother Drakk
Do you really need maths hammer for that? As far as i know, kraks don't have rending (correct me if i'm wrong), assault cannons get 4 shots, hit on 3+ (something you don't walways get for kraks) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/141215-rending-rule/#findComment-1633314 Share on other sites
InquisitorPhred
mathhammer wise. against armour 14 the AC still beats out the krak missle for pens. Something of a loaded statement given the probability of a Krak missile penetrating AV 14 is exactly 0%, ever. The krak missile still has a higher chance of cause *some* damage of any kind and at worst preventing return fire. maniclurker
I don't like mathammer, mostly for the fact that noone can do it right, and it never really applies to the game anyways. I don't think the asscannon is useless, I think it is balanced. I view terminators as tough units that can advance up the field and lay down heavy fire while doing so. 4 ST6 AP4 shots does wonders. If you happen to roll 6's to wound, then all the better. It's still a ST6 weapon with 4 shots, so it really can't be bad. Disistablishmentarianism
Personally I don't think assault cannons could ever go out of style, even if they do get beaten into a pulp rules wise because there will always be the fluffy players. But yes, I do believe its +d3 penetration. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/141215-rending-rule/#findComment-1635696 Share on other sites

maniclurker
The moral of the story is to ignore mathammer, and play what you like best. And try to win with it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/141215-rending-rule/#findComment-1636101 Share on other sites

Blackraine
I tend to prefer Cyclone Missiles myself, but that's because I play Dark Angels and my Cyclone Missile guys also sport a pair of lightning claws ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/141215-rending-rule/#findComment-1654484 Share on other sites
