Counts As With Cultists

For my alpha legion army, i wanted to have cultists, but the (explicit deleted) new codex removed them for my AL to use. I want to use rules from the codex so they work out good and i wont have to explain much, so i figured i could use the lessr daemon entry. what i think is that a bunch of cultists throwing themselves at the enemy with just a ccw would kinda bring out the whole cult bit of it, and being 'summoned" to kinda go as them apearing to fight and be from the enemy's side (if this enemy is imperial). this ios quuite flawed i know, but tell me how i can fix it up or just what u use(if u use cultists).

I add imperial guard allies. I also don't play tourny.

Ogryns = big mutants (well, they are) Enforcers = commissars. guardlings = traitors.

Conscript platoons make great cheaply armed civilians.

The IG "warrior weapons" doctrine fits well too.

See, the 2nd 3rd ed IG codex, as well as 2nd 3rd ed chaos codex were well written, and allowed flexibility.

This makes them the two most fun codexes right now. I wish there were such a thing as placcy steel legion, they'd make awesome cultists for my IW's.

Kroot Mercenaries

I'm serious.

per RAW its legal to field them... some notes,

The all infiltrating all singing all dancing Kroot can be modeled as humans. mine have various "mob" weapons to count as kroot rifles (taped up guns just silly looking things)

THey are NASTY effective in CC with WS4 and STR4 and 3 attacks on the charge, oh and they're cheap too,

their shaper has 3A base, and 3W's and can take power weapon if you so desire.

they are just AMAZING, and fills the gap in cultists easily.

Now the other legal option is summoned Daemons, these work ok, you can always explain the summoning as them coming out of hiding and stuff,

I perfer kroot personally =)

The Lost and the Damned army list from the Eye of Terror would work well (still tourney legal in the Canada). You could paint up some Grey Knights as Alpha Legion and induct them into an Imperial Guard army. You could do the Alpha Legion as Space Marines and induct Inquisitorial Storm Troopers as Cultists or do an Inquisitorial list with inducted Space Marines as Alpha Legion.

Ideally, the new Imperial Guard book would have rules for renegade guards and Chaos Marine induction... but that's just wishful thinking.

I take cultists as my Count As Daemons, made largely from the Flagellants box.

I also play a lost and the damned army, which incorportates Alpha Legion elements, though it does require alittle jiggery-pokery to make it work propperly.

I'm also working on using the LaD codex to make a Genestealer Cult.

It's a wonderfuly useful little list.

arent the kroot merc like all the "special" builds from 4th ed [ like siege company , army of death etc] automaticly illegal for play , specially tournaments ?

No, the kroot list is just as legal as the blood angel's list, it was published and is still available for download via the site.

The ones that get invalidated are the ones from books that refer to material no longer in print such as lost and the damned, which refer to chaos book entries that aren't there, or the eldar list in the same book for a similar reason.

So Kroot mercs are entirely legal, I checked =)

VIVA LA KROOT!

Those 8-point snipers ain't bad, either!

This is making me want to do a list thats cultists (kroot), lesser daemons, and lots and lots of terminators. The entire army would infiltrate or deepstrike :P

Of course it would have serious problems if the daemons came in when there were no icons on the board, so might need a rhino squad.

Get a lord with a bike and personal icon. Heh, he can be the "bait". A lone Chaos Space Marine, merrily driving down the road, gets accosted by some Imperial scum. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a bunch of cultists break in from the flanks, terminators port in from the skies, and demons start spawning everywhere. Nice. ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm currently working on a AL army (I've got a thread in the WIP forum) and will be using beastman cultists that count as regular chaos space marines. That way I can use all of the things I love about chaos in one army. Alpha Legion, beastmen and daemons. ;) (Except nurgle, but I'm saving that for WFB)

They will hopefully look similar to this but with less armour.

I would rather stick with the kroot allies option. What cultist do you know that is given daemonic enhancements above their patron chapter/legions thousand civillain murderers compared to some kid who just joined the cult yesterday and has higher toughness then a high gravity world dwelling deathworld jungle fighter?

Ive always used Kroot merc rules for my old cultist models I bought 8 years ago. Never changed, never a bad option!

Or if your dissatisfied with that, just ask to use them as Conscripts with a Chaos SPace Marine Champion + Icon of chaos Glory for the points cost listed in the Chaos Space Marine unit entry. (It is similar to old old old 3rd edition Cultists rules where the Conscript idea was first tested in chapter approved, same magazine cult terminators were implemented too) If you really want to stick to old fluff...
